2001 all draft team

After seeing the popularity of my all 2002 and 2003 draft teams I have decided to analyze my all 2001 team. This might be the most loaded draft of them all as it has one of the best quarterbacks in the game, the best running back and three of the ten best receivers. Plus it also has many pro bowl defensive players. The teams only weakness is noticebly at linebacker and the other safety spot. So here is my all 2001 draft team.

Minnesota Vikings season preview

Last years record: 6-10 (3rd in division)

Coach: Brad Childress

Key Addition: The Vikings didn't have many key additions this off-season. Mike Doss should be a backup safety and could make an impact on special teams.

Key Loss: Jermaine Wiggins, a very reliable tight end as he always caught 60 passes and was a good leader in the locker room. Now they will start Jimmy Kleinsasser to replace him and that is a big drop off.

Draft: The Vikings have tons of potential in this draft and if they are the top of the division in a couple years they will look back at this class. Adrian Peterson out of Oklahoma has the ability to be a great all around back and should split carries this year with Chester Taylor. Sidney Rice out of South Carolina has loads of athleticism and with the Vikings weak receivers he could start this year. Fresno State corner Marcus McCauley could start in a few years and was considered a first round talent before his disappointing senior campaign. Defensive end Brian Robison from Texas is a good athlete and should make an impact on special teams this year. My sleeper of the draft class though is East Carolina receiver Aundrae Allison. He was a first day talent slipped to the 5th round. He is very fast and is good after the catch and reminds me of Chad Johnson.

Offense: If Tarvaris Jackson develops this year into a solid quarterback the Vikings could have a good offense. Jackson showed potential and is an all around athlete but if he performs like he did in a prime time game against the Packers where he only had 40 yards they are in trouble. The running game could be one of the best in the league as Chester Taylor had over 1200 yards last year along with 6 touchdowns. He shouldn't get as much work this year though as Adrian Peterson could end up being the starter by the end of the year. Steve Hutchinson leads an impressive offensive line,however if the passing game doesn't improve teams will go 8 in the box against them. The receivers are very young and need work. Troy Williamson was a top 10 pick a few years ago and had a hard time catching deep balls losing them in the lights. He went to Nike for vision help but if that doesn't work out he could be out of the league after this year. That would open the door for Sidney Rice to get reps who at 6'3" also a great red zone target.

Defense: This unit is very underrated as they were the best team in the league at stopping the run. The defensive tackle tandem of Kevin and Pat Williams gave offenses nightmares as they clogged up the run and Kevin also had 5 sacks. Linebacker E.J. Henderson had a career year last season getting over 100 tackles and he should build on that performance this year. The Corners are solid as Antoine Winfield is a shutdown corner while Cedric Griffin is improving and could be a solid starter in a year or two. The highlight though is Darren Sharper who had 4 interceptions last year and is one of the best safeties in the game.

Fantasy Studs: Chester Taylor RB: Taylor could have a good year if he doesn't have to give carries to Peterson at the beginning of the season. When getting the majority of carries he should be a low no.2 back but when sharing he is a no.3.

Adrian Peterson RB: Peterson might not have a huge impact right away but when he gets the majority of the carries he is worth starting as a no.2 back. For now he is a no.3 and he could help you big time in the playoffs.

Prediciton: The Vikings are lucky that this division is so bad that even if they get 7 wins they could place second. Nobody would be suprised if this happens but unless Jackson improves as a quarterback I don't think it will . My prediction is 5-11 and last place in the division.

This just in: Oliver selected by Chargers, Gaither by Ravens

Only two players were selected in the supplemental draft as Georgia cornerback Paul Oliver was picked with a 4th rounder by the Chargers and massive Maryland offensive lineman Jared Gaither was selected with a 5th rounder by the Ravens. Both players could be potential steals as Oliver was the only player who could stop Calvin Johnson other then Reggie Ball. While Gaither could start in a couple years as Johnathan Ogden is getting older. The Chargers have had past luck in the supplemental draft before selecting all pro defensive tackle Jamal Williams a few years back. Either way both of these guys could have big impacts on there teams in the near future.

Green Bay Packers season preview

Last years record: 8-8
Coach: Mike McCarthy

Key Addition: Honestly when your only free agency pickup is Frank Walker it won't get to many high grades. Walker at best should be a nickel back.

Key Loss: Ahman Green RB: Green was a solid player for a lot of seasons for the Packers and that is why it's sad to see him go. Green still has the ability to be a 1000 yard back but the Packers seem to now be in rebuilding mode.

Draft: If the Packers traded down a few spots in the first round it would be considered a good draft. Justin Harrell is a good player who should start in a year or two but he was a reach at 16. Brandon Jackson out of Nebraska should be an impact player this season and could possibly start right away at running back. Also Mason Crosby should also be a upgrade in the kicking game and could be an all pro kicker for a long time.

Offense: If this is the end for Brett Favre this might not be the way he will want it to end. The offense is in a rebuilding stage as Vernand Morency might not be able to carry the load and rookie Brandon Jackson might not be ready. The offensive line is also pretty young so Favre could be on his back a lot. The bright spot though is the receivers as Donald Driver is one of the most consistent receivers in the league.Second year starter Greg Jennings had some injuries last year but other then that was solid with 600 yards and 3 touchdowns. He should have around 1000 yards this year.

Defense: This unit is very underrated as Aaron Kampman led a solid defensive line with 15 sacks last year. Cullen Jenkins is also very underrated and could have a breakout season. AJ Hawk could also have a great sophomore campaign and Nick Barnett should also have a big impact. The corner tandem is also very good as Al Harris is a shutdown corner while Charles Woodson was among the top in the league in interceptions.

Fantasy Studs: Brett Favre QB: Favre is near the end of the line of his career but he can still put up solid fantasy numbers. He throws around 30 times a game and could get around 4000 yards. The only problem is the interceptions. So he should be a no.2 quarterback.

Brandon Jackson RB: Jackson should get the majority of carries by the end of the year and is likely to have a big impact. He is good at catching out of the backfield and could be useful in the fantasy playoffs. That makes him a low no.3 running back for now.

Donald Driver WR: Driver is one of the top receivers every year and that shouldn't change. Driver also caught over 90 passes last year which is great for a reception league. He should be a great no.2 option for your fantasy team.

Prediction: The Packers could do well in a relatively weak division and they could make a run at the wild card. The thing is I think Favre is about done and they are currently in the rebuilding stage which could be rough. My prediction is 6-10 and 3rd in the division.

Detroit Lions season preview

Last years record: 3-13 (last place in division)
Coach: Rob Marinelli
Key additions: Dewayne White DE: White is a solid player who is familiar with Marinelli's defensive system coming from the Bucs. He is very young and has potential to become a premiere pass rusher.
Tatum Bell RB: If Kevin Jones isn't fully healthy from his terrible foot injury, Bell should be the starter. Bell is a solid back but anyone would look good running for the Broncos. If Bell has a good season, then people would notice his play wasn't a fluke.
Key Loss: Dre Bly CB: Bly was a locker room cancer for the Lions at times but he is a shut down corner when healthy. He is great in man to man coverage and should make a great duo with Champ Bailey in Denver.
Draft: This may be looked upon as the draft that finally helped the Lions turn the corner. Calvin Johnson is a once a decade receiver prospect and should make an immediate impact and become an all pro receiver in a year or two. Michigan State quarterback Drew Stanton could also become a solid player if he gets a good grip of Mike Martz's offense and could start when called upon in a few years. Ikaika Alama-Francis could also make an impact in a few years and has double digit sack potential. So if Stanton to Johnson becomes one of the most feared connections in the league, the Lions would have a good draft.
Offense: When looking at this offense you must sometimes wonder if Mike Martz plays fantasy football because this unit could be fun to watch. Jon Kitna might not be the long term answer but is a solid player who can put up numbers and is a great leader. If Kevin Jones returns healthy, he and Tatum Bell could make a solid duo to improve on the 32nd ranked rushing attack. The receiving corps could be great as Roy Williams had a pro bowl season last year and is only improving. Plus Mike Furrey had over 100 receptions last year and possibly could be the number 3 receiver. Also look for them to use 4 receiver sets with new addition Shaun McDonald from the Rams.
Defense: The Lions defense was pretty bad last year ranking 28th in the league. Ernie Sims was a good surprise last year and should become one of the leaders of the defense. The defensive tackle tandem of Shaun Rogers and Corey Redding is pretty solid. Redding had a breakout campaign last year with 8 sacks. Expect the same this year. The only problem is Rogers as he sometimes takes plays off and has underachieved the last couple seasons. Plus the team can't be happy with his legal troubles. The defensive backs are very inexperienced. Honestly, how many teams would have Stanley Wilson and Travis Fisher as starting corners? Not exactly a duo thats going to stop pass happy attacks.
Fantasy Studs: Jon Kitna QB: Kitna could be a great sleeper pick this year as he gets lots of yards and with his receivers he could have lots of touchdowns. If Kitna cuts down on interceptions, he should be a no.1 quarterback.
RB: Neither Kevin Jones or Tatum Bell are worth starting at this point considering the Lions play a lot from behind and don't get to establish the running game. If the offense gets rolling though one of them could end up being a good starting back with Marshall Faulk like numbers.
Roy Williams WR: Williams is slowly becoming one of the premiere receivers in the league. That should continue this year as he now has even more weapons on his team. He should have similar numbers to last year and should be a low no.1 or high no.2 starter.
Calvin Johnson WR: Johnson could possibly have a huge rookie campaign. The question is if how much impact he will have his first couple games. He is a good no.3 receiver for now possibly becoming a 2.
Prediction: The Lions should be much improved from last season as they now have the potential to be one of the most explosive offenses in the league. If the defense plays well it could be a solid season. But knowing the Lions management even if they don't live up to expectations Matt Millen will stick around. My prediction is 7-9 and second place in the division. That's also good enough to give Millen a contract extension.

Chicago Bears season preview

Last years record: 13-3 (lost super bowl)
Coach: Lovie Smith


Key Addition: The Bears didn't really add any free agents this season except for a overpaid safety in Adam Archuleta. He could start but he won't have that much of an impact.

Key Loss: Thomas Jones RB: Jones was always reliable when needed and helped lead a strong Bears rushing attack. Either way though Cedric Benson a former top 5 pick would have taken his job.


Draft: The Bears' draft has potential to be a good one as the first three picks should all make an impact this season. Greg Olsen is a great pass catching tight end who could start by the end of the year. Dan Bazuin of Central Michigan could be a solid situational pass rusher and become a goo d player. Garrett Wolfe the running back out of Northern Illinois could be a great 3rd down running back as he is a threat to score every time he touches the ball.

Offense: The main thing for the Bears is can Rex Grossman be consistent for a whole season? If he is it could be another good season for the Bears. Cedric Benson who is now the starting running back could have a solid season as he had 650 yards last year on 150 carries. Bernard Berrian should become a number one receiver as Mushin Muhammed is getting older. Berrian is a great deep threat and could have 1000 yards this year. The tight ends should also get involved as Desmond Clark had over 600 yards and Olsen should contribute immediately. Plus the explosive Devin Hester is going to get involved and could score a couple touchdowns and be a great decoy at times.


Defense: If Lance Briggs returns after his contract situation and doesn't hold out, the Bears defense could be just as good as last year. The only departure is Tank Johnson who had so many criminal problems they didn't want him on the team. Brian Urlacher should have another pro bowl season while corners Nathan Vasher and Charles Tillman continue to improve. Plus second year defensive end Mark Anderson could have another double digit sack season. If all of that happens with the Bears, you could be seeing them in the NFC Championship come January.

Fantasy Studs:
Cedric Benson RB: Benson could have an 1000 yard season as he gets to breakout in the starting role. Plus playing the Lions and Packers doesn't hurt. He should be a no.2 running back for your team.

Bernard Berrian WR: Berrian had a breakout season last year but this one could be even better. He should have 1000 yards and maybe 6 touchdowns which would make him a very solid no.3 receiver and a low no.2.

Prediction: The Bears are still the class of the division and none of the other teams did that much to get better. My prediction is 11-5 and first place in the division.

Fantasy Football top 10 defenses

Last year defenses played a big role in deciding fantasy games. You have to remember that in some leagues you also own the team's special teams and if a kick is returned for a touchdown you get the points. So here are my top 10 fantasy defenses.
1. Baltimore Ravens: If this unit is around when you're picking in round 6 you should definitely take them as they well get you more points then any number 3 receiver. The Ravens always score at least 5 defensive touchdowns a year. They also record lots of sacks and interceptions. The addition of rookie return man Yamon Figurs should help as he will have Devin Hester like impact on the return game.
2. Chicago Bears: The defense isn't as good as the Ravens but you get even more return touchdowns. Devin Hester had 6 last year and should get around 3 this year. Plus they play offenses like the Vikings twice a year so expect solid numbers all around the board.
3. San Diego Chargers: points from sacks can decide the winner and loser of a game. If you have the Chargers you won't have to worry about that. The Chargers led the NFL in sacks last year with 61. Plus Shawne Merriman should have another great season unless he fails another drug test. The special teams is a little weak but the sacks will make up for it.
4. New England Patriots: The Patriots had a solid defense last year but with new addition Adelius Thomas they are one of the top fantasy defenses. This year expect a lot more sacks and if Asante Samuel returns, some interceptions. Wes Welker will also help out on special teams.
5. Denver Broncos: The Broncos defense was a little inconsistent last year but now that they have Dre Bly opposite Champ Bailey they will be almost impossible to throw on. Expect some solid sack numbers with lots of interceptions and maybe a couple return touchdowns.
6. Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys new coach Wade Phillips was the guy who made Shawne Merriman a star. Now it's DeMarcus Ware's turn. Ware had a solid season last year but he should have around 15 sacks this year. With that, along with Terence Newman becoming a shut down corner you should have a definite number 1 defense.
7. Miami Dolphins: Other than Jason Taylor there aren't many other players who will get you serious fantasy points. Either way they are a solid number 1 defense as they don't allow that many points or yards and Taylor is so versatile he will score at least one touchdown and the team should get at least 18 interceptions.
8. Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles always get lots of sacks because of their ability to blitz. The addition of Takeo Spikes should also help with sacks and Lito Sheppard should get lots of interceptions. They should be used as a no.1 defense.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jags don't allow too many yards as they have a great defensive line and a shutdown corner in Rashean Mathis. If they get a couple return touchdowns as Maurice Jones-Drew should help run back kicks. They should definitely be a starting unit.
10. Carolina Panthers: This unit didn't live up to there potential last year but Julius Peppers and company should rebound this year as they get lots of sacks and they have very good corners in Ken Lucas and Chris Gamble. If Peppers has a good year and the corners improve, they should be a starting unit.

2003 all draft team

The last draft i analyzed was the 2002 draft and that was a washout where some key positions were weak on talent. This draft is loaded on talent and could be very interesting so here is my 2003 all draft team.

If you look back at this draft you can see some of these picks are by default. This was definitely a terrible quarterback class as Carr isn't even that great but compared to the rest of the guys he looks like a stud. It was also a weak class for linebackers. Lets just say except for some defensive players this wasn't that great a draft.

2002 draft review picks 21- 32

21.New England Patriots: Daniel Graham TE Colorado: Graham was predicted to be an every down tight end but that hasn't quite happened. He has been mainly been used around the goalline and he has gotten over 20 career touchdowns. He is now the highest paid tight end in the league after signing with the Broncos this offseason. Considering how his career has been so far he wasn't worth the money.

22. New York Jets: Bryan Thomas DE UAB: Coming out every analyst thought Thomas was a huge reach. For the most part they were right as he only has 15 career sacks. He may be turning the corner though as he had 8.5 last year. He should continue to be a starting linebacker in the Jets 3-4 this year.

23.Oakland Raiders: Napoleon Harris LB Northwestern: Harris was predicted to have an impact right away and he has had a couple good seasons. He is best known though for going to the Vikings in the Randy Moss trade a few years back. Now though he should be the starting middle linebacker for the Chiefs.

24. Baltimore Ravens: Ed Reed S Miami(FL): Many people viewed Reed as a talent with legal troubles. Well they were right about one thing, he does have talent. Reed has been to multiple pro bowls and has become a leader on the best defense in the league. Plus 30 interceptions in 5 years isn't a bad value.

25. New Orleans Saints: Charles Grant DE Georgia: Grant has been a very solid player so far in his career averaging 7 sacks a year. That was the knock on him coming out that he was very consistent but not great. Those numbers are worthy of the late 1st round selection that he was.

26. Philadelphia Eagles: Lito Sheppard CB Eagles: This was a steal for the Eagles as Sheppard was the 3rd cornerback chosen and he is the only one of the three to have gone to the pro bowl. Sheppard has now gotten the reputation of a shut down corner and should have another great season.

27. San Francisco 49ers: Mike Rumph CB Miami(FL): Rumph was supposed to be a shutdown corner coming into the league but he has been the total opposite. Rumph had become a target for most teams as they always throw on him when given the opportunity. He has had a hard time staying on a team so far and he is now trying to make it as a backup on the Rams.

28. Seattle Seahawks: Jerramy Stevens TE Washington: Stevens for the most part has been a complete bust as he has dropped lots of passes and is a locker room cancer. He is the third player in the first round to be best known for an altercation with Joey Porter. Stevens is now fighting to make the Bucs and try and live up to his potential there.

29. Chicago Bears: Marc Colombo T Boston College: Coming out Colombo was a monster tackle who was predicted to start immediately. He didn't start right away but he has now become a starting tackle for the Cowboys and should take over that role this year.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kendall Simmons G Auburn: Simmons has ended up coming a quality guard who won a super bowl ring on the Steelers a couple years ago. He should start this year for the Steelers and could be an impact on the team for another 8 years or so.

31. St.Louis Rams: Robert Thomas LB UCLA: Coming out Thomas was a very fast linebacker who had potential to be a great player. Well that never quite happened as he has bounced around the league and has been on three teams in 5 years primarily as a special teams player. He is now on the Raiders.

32. Washington Redskins: Patrick Ramsey QB Tulane: Lets just say this wasn't the best quarterback class to enter the NFL as none of the first rounders have panned out yet. Ramsey is proof of that as he was the first draft pick in the Steve Spurrier era. Ramsey so far has been an average NFL quarterback at best and this year will be a backup to Jay Cutler on the Broncos.

2002 draft review picks 11-20

11.Indianapolis Colts: Dwight Freeney DE Syracuse: The thing on Freeney coming out was that he was undersized but very fast off the edge. Well that combination has made him an all-pro defensive end. So far he has 57 career sacks including 13 in his rookie year. Plus he is the highest drafted player so far from this class to have won a super bowl.


12. Arizona Cardinals: Wendall Bryant DT Wisconsin: When the Cardinals selected Bryant they were expecting a player who could clog the line for around a decade and would improve the defense. Well lets just say that didn't happen as Bryant is now out of the league after being cut in training camp in 2005. Shows you how much a B+ from Mel Kiper matters now.

13. New Orleans Saints: Donte' Stallworth WR Tennessee: Stallworth was supposed to be a burner coming out of Tennessee but lots of nagging injuries slowed him down and that brought him to the Eagles last year where he averaged almost 20 yards a catch. Now he is on the Patriots and should be a number 2 receiver. But considering where he was picked he hasn't shown. no.1 receiver numbers. Especially considering Javon Walker was picked at no.20.

14. New York Giants: Jeremy Shockey TE Miami(FL): Shockey has changed the tight end position in many ways. He won the Pepsi rookie of the year and provided much controversy in the locker room. Shockey has been to multiple pro bowls but now it seems like his ego is getting in the way as he often criticizes coaches for not getting him the ball. But even if Shockey's best seasons are behind him, he will be known for changing the tight end position for guys like Antonio Gates and Kellen Winslow.

15. Tennessee Titans:Albert Haynesworth DT Tennessee: When a top 15 pick is best known for stepping on Cowboys center Andre Gurode's head you know your career isn't headed in the right direction. Haynesworth was predicted to be a very dominant player in the NFL but hasn't lived up to the billing yet. If he doesn't improve along with his temper he could be out of the league in a couple years.

16. Cleveland Browns: William Green RB Boston College: Coming out I thought Green would be a star and become a key player for the Browns. Well me and every analyst were wrong. He is the second player on this list to be best known for a fight with Joey Porter this one occurred during pre -game warm ups. So he is now a free agent hoping to get back in the league.

17. Oakland Raiders: Phillip Buchanon CB Miami (FL): This looked like a great pick for the Raiders as he has everything they want in a player, a criminal record and speed. Buchanon had potential to be a very good player but his best trait has been his punt returning ability. He is now fighting to make it on the Bucs.

18. Atlanta Falcons: T.J. Duckett RB Michigan State: Duckett was predicted to be a Jerome Bettis type back. In a way they were right as Duckett has primarily become a goal line back but hasn't been able to carry a full load. He is now on the Lions where he could get carries as the running back position is unsettled.

19. Denver Broncos: Ashley Lelie WR Hawaii: Lelie was supposed to be a burner who happened to have great size (6'4). That is what sold the Broncos but it was a big mistake. He had one 1000 yard season for them but for the most part he was a disappointment. He is now on the 49'ers where he will look to become a no.2 receiver.

20. Green Bay Packers: Javon Walker WR Florida St : Walker was one of the steals of round one as he has became the best receiver of the draft class. Walker had a couple injury problems but after last year it looks like he is at full strength. Walker is a great all around receiver and should have another solid season for the Broncos.

Washington Redskins season preview

Last years record: 5-11 (last place)
Coach: Joe Gibbs
Key Addition: London Fletcher-Baker LB: Fletcher-Baker is a tackling machine who came from the Bills. He also should be leader in the locker room. He can also help teach the young linebackers like Rocky McIntosh to help read coverages and offensive formations.

Key Loss: The Redskins really didn't have any huge losses this offseason except for an overpaid safety in Adam Archuleta and kicker John Hall.

Draft: Except for one pick this wasn't a really good draft for the Redskins. LSU safety LaRon Landry is a very good player but when they already have Sean Taylor it wasn't a huge need but now no receiver will want to go over the middle. The rest of the players like Carson Palmer's brother Jordan a quarterback from UTEP could be solid backups.

Offense: This offense has a lot of potential as they have a young quarterback in Jason Campbell who finally got experience last year. He could have a solid year but until proven should be a no.2 quarterback in fantasy football. Their two headed monster at running back could be very explosive. Ladell Betts had over 1000 yards last year while Clinton Portis is an all-pro back who when not battling injuries is a great breakaway threat. The receivers are very fast but are very small compared to most teams. Santana Moss is an elusive receiver who can score anytime he touches the ball. Brandon Lloyd is also a very talented player who hasn't fully lived up to his potential. Their most consistent receiver though may be tight end Chris Cooley who should have another solid year.

Defense: On paper this defense looks really good but last year it was 31st in total defense. Other then Taylor and Fletcher-Baker the defense has been for the most part underachieving considering how much Dan Snyder payed some of these players in free agency. Except cornerback Carlos Rogers to have a solid year and establish himself as a number 1 corner worthy of the ninth pick in the draft a couple years ago.

Fantasy Studs: Clinton Portis RB: Considering they have two solid backs Portis should be used as a no.2 fantasy back if healthy. If they split carries he could have around 1000 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Ladell Betts RB: Betts' situation is very similar to Portis and should also be used as a no. 2 back and if you have a deep team possibly a no.3. Expect similar numbers to Portis but if Portis gets hurt definitely use Betts as a no.2.

Chris Cooley TE: Cooley is a big target who should have another solid year. If you have him on your team he should be a solid no.1 tight end.

Prediction: The Redskins are a solid team but the NFC east is so tough they will have a very difficult time trying to get to the playoffs. My prediction is 7-9 and 3rd place in the division.

Philadelphia Eagles season preview

Last Years record: 10-6 (divison winner)
Coach: Andy Reid


Key Additions Kevin Curtis WR: Curtis is a very solid player to have on your football team as he is a smart player who runs savvy routes and is a burner with his 4.3 speed. Considering how often the Eagles throw the ball he should be a great help.

Takeo Spikes LB: If Spikes is half the player he was when he made the pro bowl on the Bills the Eagles got a good deal. Spikes could be an injury risk but barring injury he could play a big part on how the Eagles do this year.


Key Loss:Jeff Garcia QB: With Garcia's departure the Eagles no longer have a reliable backup for if Donavan McNabb gets injured. When given the oppurtunity last year Garcia did great so for the Eagles it was a shame to let him go.


Draft: This draft has a lot of potential for the Eagles as they drafted many players that will eventuallly replace the veteran in front of them. All of the Eagles fans booed when they selected quarterback Kevin Kolb with there first selection in the second round. Last time the fans booed like that it was when someone named Donavan McNabb was drafted. Kolb should eventually be the starter and could be a good player. Linebacker Stewart Bradley out of Nebaska should make an early impact as well. Running Back Tony Hunt out of Penn State should be a good contributor also as he is very similar to Correll Buckhalter.


Offense: The Eagles have the oppurtunity to have a very explosive offense this season as Donavan McNabb says he is fully healthy and Brian Westbrook should have another big year and get over 1000 yards and around 80 catches. That could lead to a breakout year for receiver Reggie Brown as he will be the go to guy in a pass oriented offense. LJ Smith could also have a big year as McNabb likes getting him involved if all of this happens they could have one of the best offenses in the league.


Defense: The defense should have a solid year as Jim Johnson runs lots of exotic blitz schemes that make offenses crazy. If Jevon Kearse is healthy he could get double digit sacks and Mike Patterson is a big presence clogging up the line. The Linebackers are also solid led by Jeremiah Trotter and Takeo Spikes. Led by Lito Sheppard and Brian Dawkins the secondary is one of the best in the league. Sheppard gets lots if interceptions and Dawkins is one of the best leaders in the game.


Fantasy studs: Donavan McNabb QB: If McNabb is healthy he is one of the best fantasy quarterbacks in the game. With the Eagles passing about 70 percent of the time he is definitley a no.1 quarterback.

Brian Westbrook RB: Westbrook was a fantasy stud last year as he put up big rushing yards and receiving yards also staying healthy for a whole season doesn't hurt either. Expect more of the same this year and if you have him he should be a no.1 back.

Reggie Brown WR: Brown is one of the examples of a third year receiver who should have a breakout campaign. He could end up with around 1000 yards and 6 touchdowns which would make him a good no.2 receiver.

Prediction: A lot of the season depends on if McNabb is healthy and if he is it could be another division championship for the Eagles. If he isn't healthy it could be a difficult year for the Eagles as AJ Feeley or Kevin Kolb might not be the answer this year. My prediction is 10-6 if McNabb is healthy and they would contend for the division title with the Cowboys.

New York Giants season preview

Last years record:8-8 (wildcard)
Coach: Tom Coughlin
Key Additions: Reuben Droughns RB: Droughns is a similar back to Brandon Jacobs but he has very good character and could be a good leader in the locker room. He could also start a few games early in the season in case the team doesn't think Jacobs is ready.
Key Loss: Tiki Barber RB: Barber is one of the few backs who actually got better with age as he had one of the best seasons in his career. The only good thing for the Giants is they don't have to worry about a team cancer as he criticized the coaching staff many times. It's now Matt Lauer's problem.
Draft: This could be a very good draft for The Giants as they should get at least 3 future starters out of it. Corner Aaron Ross out of Texas could end up being a solid corner but should help immediately in the return game. Receiver Steve Smith out of USC should become an impact player next year as he will get lots of good experience this year from Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burress. The sleeper is running back Ahmad Bradshaw out of Marshall who has potential to be a great 3rd down back and could start in the next couple years.
Offense: This could be the last chance for Eli Manning in New York as he has not lived up to the expectations of a number 1 overall pick. If he plays poorly the team could be in for a long year. Brandon Jacobs could end up being a solid all around back as he was utilized as a goal line back the first 2 years of his career. If Manning is consistent this year it could be a big year for Plaxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey. Burress is a great deep threat and could should easily get over 1000 yards while Shockey should catch around 80 balls. If the offensive line also holds up without injuries like last year the offense could be pretty good.
Defense: Antonio Pierce leads this defense which was 26th in total defense. The main downfall was the cornerback position as Sam Madison is getting old and Corey Webster isn't starter material yet. The Defensive line should be very solid as Osi Umenyiora is still young and could be dominant at times. Fred Robbins could also be dominant and was a pro bowl snub last year. While Michael Strahan isn't getting older he could still be a presence at defensive end.
Fantasy Studs:
Eli Manning QB: If you pay attention to the matchups, Manning could be a solid play but be careful because some times he can be very inconsistent . If you have him make sure you have another solid quarterback on your roster but Manning could be a solid starter if he doesn't underachieve or as a bye week replacement.
Brandon Jacobs RB: Jacobs should get you a ton of touchdowns as now he will actually get the majority of the carries. The yards will come later but for now enjoy the double digit touchdowns.
Plaxico Burress: Burress should be a solid number 2 receiver as he could put up big yard numbers but the only guarantee should be at least 8 touchdowns and 1000 yards.
Prediction: It should be a long and possibly last year for Tom Coughlin as the Giants don't look as deep as they were in years past. If Eli Manning has a good year they could have a decent year. But if he has another poor season like last year it could be the end for both Coughlin and him in New York. My predicted record is 6-10 and last place in the division.

Dallas Cowboys season preview

Starting today I am going to do my previews of what to expect for every team this year. I am going to start with the NFC East so keep reading to see your favorite team. So here is the first team the Dallas Cowboys.
Last years record: 9-7 (Wildcard)
Coach: Wade Phillips
Key additions: Leonard Davis G: Davis is a massive lineman who hasn't reached his full potential playing tackle for the Cardinals but the switch to guard could be good for him.
Ken Hamlin S: Hamlin should start right away opposite Roy Williams and cover lots of ground in pass coverage like he did for the Seahawks. He is the best free safety the Cowboys have had since Darren Woodson retired.
Key Losses: Drew Bledsoe QB: Bledsoe wasn't that great a quarterback for the Cowboys as he did a good imitation of the statue of liberty in the pocket last year. One thing he would have been though is a tutor for Tony Romo to learn how to read coverages.
Draft: Overall this wasn't the best draft you could ask for as a Cowboys fan but it should produce a few starters. Anthony Spencer the defensive end from Purdue could be a stud in the 3-4 scheme that made Shawne Merriman a star. Isaiah Stanback out of Washington could be a slash type player as he has blazing speed but isn't that polished yet at a certain position. My sleeper pick is the big tackle Doug Free from Northern Illinois as he has good footwork and Flozell Adams is getting old.
Offense: This offense has potential to be very explosive. They have a good offensive line which will be a big factor for Julius Jones and Marion Barber to pound the ball. That opens up the pass for Romo who now has experience leading a team. Plus with Romo liking to throw deep he couldn't ask for better receivers in Terry Glenn and Terrell Owens. If Owens plays like last year and his finger recovers he should be in for a great year. They could be one of the top scoring teams this year.
Defense: With defensive oriented Wade Phillips coaching now. This unit could be very solid and put up lots of sacks. Demarcus Ware was a pro bowl player last season but now in my mind is one of the early frontrunner's for Defensive Player of the year. Terrence Newman was a pro bowl snub last year and should become even better this year. The only problem is Anthony Henry and Roy Williams in the secondary as they are both getting older and were both noticeably getting beat on deep routes. Other then that the Defense has great potential.
Fantasy Studs:
Tony Romo QB: Romo could put up big numbers as he has a full year of experience under his belt. If his receivers stay healthy Romo should put up lots of yards and could become a top 10 QB by the end of the year.
Marion Barber RB: Julius Jones may get more yards but Barber gets all of the touchdowns. That is what makes him so valuable in fantasy leagues. Only players like LT, Larry Johnson and Steven Jackson had more touchdowns. If Barber increases his yards he should be a solid no.2 back.
Terrell Owens WR: Owens is always a guarantee for double digit touchdowns. That along with around 1200 yards would make him one of the most valuable receivers in fantasy football. If he is on your team there is no doubt that he is a no.1 receiver.
Prediction: So all and all I think the Cowboys are a very solid team that should make a big run in a weak NFC. If the players adjust to the new strategies correctly and fast, this could be a dangerous team. My predicted record is 10-6 and at least a wild card birth.

Top 5 running back tandems

Last year most teams established two backs who were able to carry a load are just change the pace of the game by giving the starter a rest. Here are my top 5 running back tandems.


1. Ladanian Tomlinson, Michael Turner Chargers: What tandem beats the best running back in the league along with a young back who could start for lots of other teams? Pretty much nothing as when LT wasn't scoring touchdowns. Turner averaged over 6 yards a carry.


2. Deuce McAllister, Reggie Bush Saints: The NFL's new version of thunder and lightning as Deuce is a bruising back who will chip away at defenses to make them tired. Then Bush comes in as he as so explosive he can score every time he touches the ball and also contributes in the receiving game catching over 70 passes.


3. Fred Taylor, Maurice Jones-Drew Jaguars: To me this tandem is very underrated as Taylor had over 1100 yards last year but Jones-Drew considering his 5'7 frame showed a bruising running style and scored 15 touchdowns. They almost became the only tandem last year to both rush for 1000 yards.


4. Julius Jones, Marion Barber Cowboys: It's going to be a tough offseason for the Cowboys as they are going to have to decide which of these backs will start next season. Jones had over 1000 yards last year along with 4 touchdowns. But Barber was a touchdown machine last year getting 14 and averaging 4.8 yards a carry to go with 600 yards.


5. Warrick Dunn, Jerious Norwood Falcons: This could be a great tandem for years to come for the Falcons as Dunn who is still putting up big numbers will tutor Norwood by giving him tips of how to read holes. While Dunn had 1100 yards last year Norwood had over 600 yards and had an astounding 7.3 yards a carry.

Fantasy Football top 10 rookies

Every year a couple rookies have great years. Last year it was Marques Colston and Maurice Jones-Drew. What were the odds either of them were drafted in your league? Not very likely but if you follow my top 10 rookies you will look smart by drafting one of these guys or stealing them off the waiver wire.

1. Marshawn Lynch RB Bills: Usually Running backs get you the most points so it is only fitting one is on the top of this list. Lynch will most likely start the season as the starting running back now that Willis McGahee is gone. That and the fact he catches lots of passes should make fantasy owners go crazy for him. Expect around 1500 total yards and 8 touchdowns.

2. Calvin Johnson WR Lions: It was between him and Adrian Peterson for this pick but knowing that Peterson will share carries and maybe not start until the end of the year makes Johnson the choice. He is everything you can want in a fantasy receiver as he catches passes over the middle and with is 4.3 speed can score everytime he touches the ball. Plus his 45' vertical doesn't hurt on jump balls. Expect around 1000 yards and 6 touchdowns.

3. Adrian Peterson RB Vikings: Even though Peterson is sharing carries I still expect him to have a good year as the Vikings have a good offensive line and Peterson is so explosive. If he gets the starting job towards the end of the year, he could be a useful player for a playoff run. Expect around 1000 total yards and 5 touchdowns.

4. Anthony Gonzalez WR Colts: Peyton Manning always utilizes all of his receivers and with Gonzalez that should be no different. If you remember Brandon Stokley had 1000 yards and double digit touchdowns as the Colts third receiver. Don't expect those numbers yet but expect solid production around 800 yards and 6 touchdowns.

5. Brandon Jackson RB Packers: Jackson's scenerio is very similar to Adrian Peterson's as Jackson will probably start of sharing carries with Vernand Morency. Jackson has so much talent though he should be starting by the end of the year. Expect around 1000 total yards and 6 touchdowns.

6. Dwayne Jarrett WR Panthers: Jarrett should be starting opposite side of Steve Smith this year which could be great for fantasy owners. If Smith is double teamed there is more oppurtunites for Jarrett and Jake Delhomme should take full advantage.
Expect around 700 yards and 4 touchdowns.

7. Kenny Irons RB Bengals: This is my pick for this years Maurice Jones-Drew as Irons will come in to give Rudi Johnson rest. He should be a big factor though because Irons iis good at catching passes and with Carson Palmer at the helm they aren't afraid to throw. Expect around 800 total yards and 3 touchdowns.

8. Mike Walker WR Jaguars: If you haven't heard of him thats ok because chances or neither has anybody else in your league. This is my pick for this years Marques Colston as the Jags aren't that good at receiver and Walker has great skills. He is a great deep threat and can become a big contributor to your team. Expect around 700 total yards and 4 touchdowns.

9. Greg Olsen TE Bears: Olsen has a chance to start right away for the Bears as Desmond Clark is getting old and Olsen provides speed and great hands. He isn't as good as Vernon Davis was coming out last year but he could have a better season then Davis' rookie campaign consudering how often Davis was hurt. Plus the Bears utilize there tight end a lot so expect around 600 yards and 5 touchdowns.

10. Robert Meachem WR Saints: If his knee is ok and he loses the weight he gained pre mini camp Meachem should be a solid contributor in the Saints explosive offense.
He is a good deep threat and the way Drew Brees distributes the ball he should have a solid year. expect around 500 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Top 10 receiving tandems

Because from my reaction to my original post top 5 receivers I realized there were to many good tandems in the league that weren't included. Here is my new and improved top 10.

1. Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne Colts: These guys are the definition of consistent as they are both almost a lock to put up 1000 yards and multiple touchdowns. Now with rookie Anthony Gonzalez coming in it should give them even more time to shine.

2. Chad Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh Bengals: "Ocho Cinco" is the one with all of the media attention but T.J. "who's your mama" is catching up to him as last season he had even more catches than Johnson did. They should help Carson Palmer for years to come.

3. Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin Cardinals: This might be the group with the most potential as Fitzgerald and Boldin are both under 27 and they are growing right along with their quarterback Matt Leinart. In a couple years they will be in the top 2.

4.Torry Holt,Isaac Bruce Rams: This pair is also very consistent as both of them can easily make the hall of fame. They should make Marc Bulger's job a lot easier this year also.

5. Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson Lions: I know some of you are thinking but Calvin Johnson hasn't even played a game yet. Even with that considered they have so much potential with Mike Martz running that offense they should be great for years.

6. Donte Stallworth, Randy Moss Patriots: This might be the fastest tandem of them all as they both should give Tom Brady serious deep threats he has never had. They could have career seasons the way Brady distributes the ball.

7. Steve Smith, anyone Panthers: Smith is one of the most explosive receivers in the game and can change the outcome of a game with a big play. Dwayne Jarrett could make an impact this year as a rookie but other then that nobody else is a possible starter for Carolina.

8. Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn Cowboys: This is one of the fastest tandems in the league as Glenn even in his thirties is still a burner while Owens is a touchdown machine. They should both have good years and the only reason they are this low is the possible age factor.

9. Marques Colston, Devery Henderson Saints: With Drew Brees passing them the ball both of these guys should be in for a big season. Henderson is an excellent deep threat while Colston is more physical they should be higher on the list as they get more experience.

10. Javon Walker,Brandon Marshall Broncos: Walker was a stud last year showing that he is recovered from his ACL injury in 2005. Marshall though showed his potential as he performed well at the end of last year and was one of Jay Cutler's favorite targets. This group has a lot of potential.

What team will pick up Tank Johnson?

Now that the Bears have released Tank Johnson what team is willing to take a chance on somebody who is a good player but can't stay out of trouble and will be suspended half of the year. Here are my candidates.

Bengals: Johnson fits right in with the players as he has also been arrested multiple times and is suspended by the league. Plus the Bengals need run defense but will the Bengals want another character concern?


Rams: The Rams couldn't stop the run at all last year. With Johnson that would improve there defense dramatically. But is the team willing to wait half of the season to improve there run defense?


Titans: Will the Titans be the team to have the NFL's most notorious criminals? That is a possibility as the Titans finished 30th against the run last year. They have taken character risks before so this wouldn't be a shock.

Top 5 Receiving tandems

Which Jaguar receiver will get cut?

The jags have a bunch of big, young receivers but for some reason it has been a problem on the team since Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell left. Here is my take on who will live to see the season opener and those who will see it on another team.

1. Reggie Williams Why he won't : Williams had his best season as pro last year and has improved his numbers every season.
Why he will: Williams is close to the end of his contract so the salary hit won't be that bad. Plus the team might not like his attitude considering he dances after catching a 5 yard pass.

2. Matt Jones: Why he won't: Jones is entering his third year in the league and that's the year everybody predicts receivers start to shine. Plus the Jags don't want everybody in the league thinking he is a bust.
Why he will: Jones is the slowest 4.3 I have ever seen. Plus he is afraid of getting hit and that is why he always tries to make one handed catches.

3. Ernest Wilford: Why he won't: Wilford is a great leader in the lockeroom plus he is a solid route runner who could be a good number 3 on another team.
Why he will: Wilford hasn't put up the touchdown numbers that he showed the team he could in his rookie season. He is also one of the slowest receivers on the team.

4. Charles Sharon: Why he won't: Sharon has never even played a down in a meaningful game but word is he had a lights out minicamp and impressed all of the coaches. Plus if he is as good as they are saying the Jags won't let another team grab him to make him a solid player.
Why he will: Either way I think he will make the team if he passes waivers for the practice squad at the least.

5. Mike Walker: Why he won't: Walker was just drafted by the Jags in the third round and also had a great minicamp he has potential to start from the beggining of the season.
Why he will: There is no way the Jags would cut him considering his talent and they just drafted him.

6. Dennis Northcutt: Why he won't: The Jags just gave Northcutt a big deal this offseason.
Why he will: It's not going to happen as the team would waste to much cap space.

7. John Broussard: Why he won't: Broussard is very fast and could become a solid 3 receiver in a few years.
Why he will: At the worst he will make the practice squad.

So after analyzing the Jags receiving corps I think Reggie Williams will be the one cut as he has a soon to expire contract and the team doesn't want GM's around the league thinking Matt Jones is a bust

Fantasy Football top 10 tight ends

1. Antonio Gates Chargers: Is this even a contest? Gates is by far and away the best tight end in fantasy football. Expect more of the same this year as Philip Rivers continues to imrpove. Expect around 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns.

2. Kellen Winslow Browns: Winslow had a great season last year recording over 80 catches. If he stays healthy he should be a great fantasy play no matter who is throwing him the ball. Expect around 900 yards and 8 touchdowns.

3. Jeremy Shockey Giants: Shockey is a big physical player who isn't afraid to go over the middle to make a huge catch. If Eli Manning improves he should have a great year.
Expect around 800 yards and 7 touchdowns.

4. Todd Heap Ravens: Heap is one of the most consistent tight ends in fantasy football always getting 60 plus catches along with 7 touchdowns. With an improved running game expect around 700 yards and 6 touchdowns.

5. Alge Crumpler Falcons: Michael Vick's only reliable receiver is also very consistent as he benifits from checkdown plays from Vick along with 15 yard catches. Expect the same this year around 800 yards and 5 touchdowns.

6. Tony Gonzalez Chiefs: If he didn't have a first time starting quarterback in Brodie Croyle, Gonzalez would be much higher on the list as he is the Cheifs best receiver. Expect around 800 yards and 6 touchdowns if Croyle establishes himself as starting quarterback.

7. Ben Watson Patriots: Watson had a solid season last year but his only problem is how well Tom Brady distributes the ball. If he gets looks in the redzone he will be a great pick. Expect around 650 yards and 5 touchdowns.

8. Vernon Davis 49ers: Davis is a physical freak who's rookie season got cut short by injury. If he stays healthy and Alex Smith improves he should have a great year. Expect around 600 yards and 6 touchdowns.

9. Chris Cooley Redskins: Cooley had a good season last year but Jason Campell didn't have much game experience that has changed and expect more of the same from Cooley. Expect around 700 yards and 4 touchdowns.

10. Jason Witten Cowboys: Other then the decline in touchdowns, Witten didn't have that bad a season. Now with a full season under Tony Romo's belt expect Witten's to have a better season. Expect around 600 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Dwayne Jarrett gets in car accident

A couple days ago Carolina Panthers rookie receiver Dwayne Jarrett got in a car accident that could have caused severe injuries but he was unharmed and only has some bruises.

Jarrett was a huge playmaker at USC and has the oppurtunity to try and start for the Panthers right away. He could make a big impact this season but for fantasy leagues select him in the middle rounds for rookie or keeper leagues. But if you are in a regular league select him as a possible sleeper candidate as a 3 or 4 receiver. For his stats expect around 700 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Fantasy Football top 10 quarterbacks

1. Peyton Manning Colts: This is as obvious as it gets as Manning is the best quarterback in fantasy football as he racks up yardage and gets lots of touchdowns. Expect around 4200 yards and 32 touchdowns.

2. Carson Palmer Bengals: Palmer is now fully healthy from his horrible injury in 2005 and it will make all of his fantasy owners very happy. Carson also can distribute the ball but he loses red zone target Chris Henry to a 8 game suspension so his touchdown numbers might be down a little in the first half. Expect around 4100 yards and 28 touchdowns.

3. Tom Brady Patriots: Brady is always a solid fantasy quarterback as he get everybody involved and his receivers are much improved with the additions of Donte Stallworth and Randy Moss. Expect around 4000 yards and 26 touchdowns.

4. Drew Brees Saints: Brees was a late round selection in many drafts last year. That won't happen again as Brees put up elite numbers with over 4400 yards and 30 touchdowns. If Devery Henderson steps up to replace Joe Horn Brees could have an even better season. expect around 4300 yards and 24 touchdowns.

5. Marc Bulger Rams: Bulger had a pro bowl year last year putting up over 4000 yards and 24 touchdowns. With Torry Holt and Steven Jackson to team up with him, expect more of the same this year like 4100 yards and 23 touchdowns.

6. Donovan McNabb Eagles: This pick is made assuming that McNabb is fully healthy and will start from the beggining of the season. The Eagles offense is very pass oriented so McNabb will certainly have his oppurtunities. Expect around 3800 yards and 21 touchdowns.

7. Vince Young Titans: I don't think Young is a established passer yet but his running ability puts him here. His top two receivers left in free agency and the team didn't exactly build around him in the offseason so expect around 2700 total yards and 19 touchdowns.

8. Matt Hasselbeck Seahawks: Hasselbeck was hurt for some of last year but had a good stretch of games that showes he is healthy. He lost his favorite target in Darrell Jackson but Deion Branch should replace that after a year knowing the system. Expect around 3600 yards and 20 touchdowns.

9. Philip Rivers Chargers: Many people were unsure about Rivers in the beggining of last season but that soon changed as opponents noticed they can't just stop LT to win. Rivers has some solid targets plus all world tight end Antonio Gates. Expect around 3400 yards and 18 touchdowns.

10. Matt Leinart Cardinals: This is my sleeper of the group as I think a year of experince will benifit Leinart. Plus he has two pro bowl receivers to throw to in Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. Expect around 3200 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Defensive Rookie of the year candidates

Yesterday I had my offensive candidates today I turn it over to the defensive side of the ball.

Patrick Willis LB 49ers: Willis could start right away and improve a 49ers defense that finished 26th in total defense. He is a big playmaker and could become an all pro calibar player.

Lawrence Timmons LB Steelers: Timmons could become an impact player in a Joey Porter like role for the Steelers. He should start right away and with his speed will go great with Dick LeBeau's exotic blitz schemes.

Anthony Spencer DE Cowboys: Not many people had heard of Spencer in college but he was one of the most dominant pass rushers in the big ten. His head coach now is Wade Phillips who as defensive coordinator for the Chargers turned Shawne Merriman into one of the leagues most elite pass rushers.

Fantasy Football top 10 wide receivers

1. Chad Johnson Bengals: " Ocho Cinco" had solid numbers last year but lots of them came from a two week stretch. But with Carson Palmer fully healthy Johnson should be ready to roll. Expect around 1600 yards and 8 touchdowns.

2. Steve Smith Panthers: Smith is one of the most explosive receivers in the NFL and a hamstring injury hurt his production the first couple weeks of the season. He should get back to full health this year and put up huge numbers expect around 1500 yards and 9 touchdowns.

3. Marvin Harrison Colts: Harrison is as consistent as you can get in fantasy football. He always puts up 1000 yards seasons with 10 plus touchdowns. Don't expect him to slow down this season. Expect around 1300 yards and 12 touchdowns.

4. Torry Holt Rams: Holt is one of the best receivers in fantasy football as he always puts up huge numbers and double digit touchdowns. Expect 1400 yards and 10 touchdowns.

5. Reggie Wayne Colts: Wayne has gone from the other receiver on the Colts to a stud as he got his first pro bowl birth after a huge season. He should continue to build on that and expect around 1200 yards and 10 touchdowns.

6. Terrell Owens Cowboys: T.O. is a touchdown machine as he is always a lock for double digit touchdowns. If he improves and doesn't drop as many passes he should be one of the top fantasy receivers this season. Expect around 1100 yards and 14 touchdowns.

7. Larry Fitzgerald Cardinals: Fitzgerald had a solid season considering he missed a couple games to injury but with a new head coach he should do much better. Plus there won't be any double teams considering Anquan Boldin is on the other side of him. Expect around 1200 yards and 12 touchdowns.

8. Anquan Boldin Cardinals: Boldin should improve on his 2006 campaign now that that Matt Leinart is more experienced and Fitzgerald is back from injury. Expect around 1300 yards and 8 touchdowns.

9. Roy Williams Lions: Williams had a big season last year and should look to build on that now that he has another deep threat on the opposite side of him in Calvin Johnson. So less double teams and playing from behind most of the time should make for a good fantasy wide out. Expect around 1400 yards and 7 touchdowns.

10. Javon Walker Broncos: Walker proved he was fully healthy from injury after he had a 1000 yard campaign and showed he was the go-to-guy for the Broncos. Jay Cutler loves to throw deep and Walker knows how to go up and get it. Expect around 1100 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Fantasy Football top 10 running backs

1. Ladanian Tomlinson Chargers: After last season is there anything else left to say? LT is the best player in fantasy football and is definitley worth the 1st selection. Don't expect 30 touchdowns this year my guess is around 19 and 1600 yards.

2. Steven Jackson Rams: Jackson is a big physical back who can handle a 25 carries a game. He also caught over 90 passes last year so he could go first in leagues that count points for receptions. Plus with that high powered offense expect around 15 touchdowns along with 1500 yards.

3. Frank Gore 49ers: Gore was a sleeper last year as he was picked up on lots of waiver wires during the preseason. That's not going to happen anymore as he established himself as a premiere back. He also catches a lot of passes as he 61 receptions last year. With an improved 49ers offense expect around 1600 yards and 10 touchdowns.

4. Shaun Alexander Seahawks: Is the NFC West that good that three of the top 4 are from that divison are is the defensive play that bad? Well either way Alexander should have a much better season this year as he will be healthy from a broken foot. Plus he won't be on Madden this year so expect 1300 yards and 15 touchdowns.

5. Brian Westbrook Eagles: Westbrook had a breakout year last year as he finally stayed healthy and had career highs across the board. He is very involved in the passing game so he is also a good choice for reception leagues. Expect around 1800 total yards and 10 touchdowns.

6. Willie Parker Steelers: "Fast Willie" showed he wasn't a fluke last year getting almost 1500 yards and 16 touchdowns as the Steelers never found a goal line back to replace Jerome Bettis. Expect around 1500 yards and 12 touchdowns.

7. Larry Johnson Chiefs: If it wasn't for the situation with the new quarterback and the holdout he would be much higher. Johnson should have another good year unless if his body brakes down from all the wear and tear he suffered last year like Terrell Davis and Jamal Anderson did. Expect around 1400 yards and 17 touchdowns if he stays healthy.

8. Joseph Addai Colts: Addai should have an even better sophmore campaign as he will get all the carries now that Dominic Rhodes is gone. Plus his offense is so explosive it will give him lots of goal line oppurtunities. Expect around 1400 yards and 11 touchdowns.

9. Laurence Maroney Patriots: Maroney had a solid rookie season but now that goal line back Corey Dillon is gone Maroney will carry the load and get lots of touchdowns. Expect around 1300 yards and 10 touchdowns.

10. Travis Henry Broncos: In years past fantasy owners didn't know what Bronco would get the majority of carries. They don't have to worry this year as Henry is proven he can carry the load. Plus there offensive line is so good I could run for 1000 yards. Expect around 1600 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Fantasy Football Sleepers

As fantasy drafts are starting it is popular to get a heads up on the competiton by finding sleepers. Late Round picks that could turn into big time players for your fantasy team. This happened to me as I picked up both Frank Gore and Maurice Jones-Drew on the waiver wire. Here are my sleepers.

QB: Matt Leinart Cardinals: Leinart did ok last year but now with a full year under his belt and with receivers like Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald he should have a great season. Expect between 3200 yards and 20 touchdowns.

RB: Vernand Morency Packers: With Ahman Green gone Vernand is now the frontrunner to take over the job. He has shown signs of potential but be careful because rookie Brandon Jackson should get lots of carries also. Expect between 1100 yards and 7 touchdowns. WR:

Santonio Holmes Steelers: Santonio put together a great stretch of games to end the season as he showcased he has potential to be a pro bowl calibar receiver in the league now that Ben Rothlisberger is healthy expect around 1000 yards and 6 touchdowns.

TE: Vernon Davis 49ers: Vernon is a physical freak who can outrun cornerbacks and run over linebackers. He was injured for a good chunk of last year but with Alex Smith maturing Davis should have a breakout year. Expect between 700 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Offensive Rookie of the year candidates

There was so much hype surrounding the draft it is time to look at some preseason rookie of the year candidates.

Marshawn Lynch RB Bills: Marshawn is a great talent and with a weak running back situation in Buffalo he could start immediatley. If he does he could put up over 1000 yards and around 8 td's that is rookie of the year numbers.

Calvin Johnson WR Lions: Calvin is a physical freak who can match up with any corner in the league. With the Lions playing from behind a lot there are lots of oppurtunities for the ball to be thrown his way.

Mike Walker WR Jaguars: This is my sleeper pick who could turn into a stud receiver for the Jags. He is a big physical receiver who was unheard of coming out of college.Along with a weak receiving core and a now more vertical offense he could be a stud.This years Marques Colston anyone?

AFC Season Preview

Football season is only a couple months away and soon training camp is going to begin so let me analyze my division winners and my sleeper team for the AFC. AFC East: New England Patriots: This choice is as obvious as it gets as they still have a core of players from when they won the superbowl a couple years ago.They added even more talent with the addition of versitile linebacker Adelius Thomas along with the additions of speedy receivers Donte Stallworth and gamebreaker Randy Moss. Plus it doesn't hurt that they have Tom Brady at the helm.

AFC North: Cincinnati Bengals: If no more players get arrested and face disipline from the commissioner,this could be an explosive team. They have loads of fire power at offense led by all-pro quarterback Carson Palmer and the dynamic receiving tandem of Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh. They also have a consistent running threat in Rudi Johnson who will change the pace of games. If the defense improves they are a darkhorse in a deep AFC.

AFC South: Indianapolis Colts: The Superbowl champs come back as explosive as ever still led by Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning and have an explosive core with young running back Joseph Addai and all-pro receivers Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne.1st round pick Anthony Gonzalez should also fit right in to become a great 3rd receiver. The only big loss on defense was linebacker Cato June to the Bucs. They still have Dwight Freeney up front and explosive safety Bob Sanders to defend the pass. The road to win the AFC will go through Indianapolis. AFC

West: San Diego Chargers: They had the best record in the regular season but there playoff inexperience hurt them as they lost to the Patriots in the 2nd round. They still have the best running back in the league in Ladanian Tomlinson along with improving quarterback Phillip Rivers. The defense is explosive led by Shawne Merriman. If it wasn't for the 'roids Merriman could have challenged the single season sack record as he had 17 in 12 games.

Sleeper: Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jags have a great defense along with one of the leagues best running tandems in Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones-Drew had great production last year with over 15 touchdowns and 950 yards. While Taylor had over 1100 and 5 touchdowns. The only problem is the play at quarterback as Byron Leftwich wasn't completley healthy and David Garrard didn't play like a starting quarterback. The defense though is a whole other story though as Marcus Stroud and John Henderson are among the premiere defensive players in the NFL. This could lead to success for the Jaguars.

2002 draft 5 years later picks 1-10

Today I went into Dick's Sporting goods and ran into Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee and tackle Tony Pashos for a team promotion. I was talking to Tony about my blog and he suggested I do a post about the draft that happened 5 years ago. I thought it was a great idea so here is my 2002 draft review after the players have actually taken the field.


Houston Texans: David Carr QB Fresno St. This was the first draft pick in team history and it certainly wasn't as successful as they hoped. Behind a poor offensive line and a weak supporting cast,Carr was released this year and is now on the Carolina Panthers.

Carolina Panthers: Julius Peppers DE North Carolina: Draft analysts were calling Peppers the next Lawrence Taylor when he entered the draft. Ironically they attended the same college and Peppers has become a star. He is one of the most athletic players in the league and has been to the Pro Bowl multiple times.

Detroit Lions: Joey Harrington QB Oregon: Lets just say this wasn't the best pick in the Matt Millen era for the Lions. Harrington was supposed to be a very savvy quarterback with lots of big game experience. That potential was never shown in Detroit and is now the backup for the Falcons behind America's favorite dog breeder, Michael Vick.

Buffalo Bills: Mike Williams T Texas: Williams came into the league with expectations to become a great player right away. That never happened as he was overweight and was slow. He was with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season but was placed on injured reserve before he reached the field.

San Diego Chargers: Quentin Jammer CB Texas: Jammer was supposed to be a shut down corner coming out of Texas. He has been a solid corner but hasn't lived up to expectations. He is still currently playing for the Chargers.

Kansas City Chiefs: Ryan Sims DT North Carolina: This might have been the biggest reach of this draft class. Sims was a first round talent but wasn't worth the 6th pick. He has also had numerous injuries and is now on the Bucs. For the Record Rocky Bernard the starting defensive tackle for the Seahawks was drafted in the 5th round and John Henderson was drafted 3 picks later.

Minnesota Vikings: Bryant McKinnie T Miami(FL): Bryant was a very prolific college player but it hasn't translated to the pros. After holding out half the year,McKinnie never caught up to speed with the offense. He is currently still starting for the Vikings.

Dallas Cowboys: Roy Williams S Oklahoma: Roy was labeled a star coming out and lived up to it his first year winning defensive rookie of the year. He still starts for the Cowboys but you can noticeably tell he has slowed down and can't cover the pass.

Jacksonville Jaguars: John Henderson DT Tennessee: After this pick analysts like Mel Kiper Jr. were going nuts with what a mistake the Jaguars made for picking him after taking Marcus Stroud the year before. Well they were proved wrong. Henderson started right away and he and Stroud have helped turn the Jags into a great rushing defense. He has also been to the Pro Bowl.

Cincinnati Bengals: Levi Jones T Arizona State: When you draft a player 10th overall and he is best known for getting into a fight with Joey Porter in Las Vegas, that isn't a real good thing. Levi starts for the Bengals but he hasn't yet reached his full potential.

2007 NFL Draft Recap

In my recent memory this had to be one of the weirdest drafts I have ever seen. There were many reaches and of course there was Brady Quinn who was a predicted top 10 pick by many experts fell to the Browns at number 22 as they traded up for him. Here are my hits and misses for the draft so far.



Hits:
Calvin Johnson WR Lions: Even thought the Lions have a history of using high picks on receivers Johnson was a great pick. He and Roy Williams should make an exciting tandem for years to come.

Jamaal Anderson DE Falcons: The Falcons addressed there biggest need at defensive end and got a steal at number eight getting him as I thought the Redskins would take him. Anderson could be an all-pro for years to come.

Misses:
Ted Ginn JR. WR Dolphins: Ginn isn't a bad pick but considering Brady Quinn was still on the board and at the time Cleo Lemon was the starting quarterback Quinn should have been the pick. Ginn gives the Dolphins a playmaker they have needed but they could have traded down to get him.

Michael Griffin S Texas: Griffin can help the Titans right away but they need receivers to help out Vince Young. Plus I think Griffin was the third best safety left at the 17th pick considering Reggie Nelson and Brandon Meriweather. The Titans addressed receiver in the 3rd and 4th rounds getting Paul Williams from Fresno St. and Chris Davis from Florida St. but they aren't in the same league as receivers like Dwayne Bowe and Robert Meachem.
