Fbkid's preseason power rankings

Training camp is almost here so what better time to do my first power rankings of the season. Many teams have improved through the draft while others through free agency. The list should be interesting and my rankings will next be updated after the preseason games.


1.New York Giants: Considering they are the defending Super Bowl champs, until they lose they are my number one team.

2.New England Patriots: All of the offensive fire power returns but the corners are an issue.

3.Indianapolis Colts: Bob Sanders is the leader of the defense and when he and Dwight Freeney get healthy, the Colts can be a scary team.

4.San Diego Chargers: If not for the injuries, they might have been playing for the Super Bowl last February.

5.Dallas Cowboys: On paper this team looks great but will Tony Romo win a playoff game?

6.Jacksonville Jaguars: The media is starting to notice the Jaguars as many people are calling them contenders in the AFC. It all depends on David Garrard's play though.

7.Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks are one of the most consistent teams in the league and should be among the elite in the NFC again.

8.Pittsburgh Steelers: Rashard Mendenhall should help take the load off of Willie Parker but the offensive line is a big concern.

9.Cleveland Browns: We know they can score but with lack of depth at corner will the additions of Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams on the defensive line get them to the playoffs?

10.Green Bay Packers: This team could either go 12-4 or 4-12. We haven't seen much of Aaron Rodgers yet to see if he can lead the Packers back to the playoffs.

11.Minnesota Vikings: Once Tarvaris Jackson or John David Booty develop, this is the team to beat in the NFC.

12.New Orleans Saints: The defense has improved but corner is still a major issue. If the defense gets going the Saints will be marching far into the playoffs.

13.Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles got going late in the season but if Donovan McNabb stays healthy they are in good shape.

14.Houston Texans: If Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson stay healthy, this team is the darkhorse in the AFC.

15.Buffalo Bills: If Trent Edwards improves on his play from last year, they are in very good shape to do some damage. The return of Paul Posluzny will be huge as well.

16.Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Bucs lack depth at running back but in a weak division have a shot at making the playoffs again.

17.Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals are a year or two away from being a legitimate contender in the NFC. The offensive line is still an issue though.

18.Carolina Panthers: If Jake Delhomme is healthy, this team has a good chance of pushing for a wild card spot.

19.Denver Broncos: If Jay Cutler turns into the elite quarterback many think he is, this team could push for a wild card spot.

20.Washington Redskins: This team has lots of question marks with a new coach in Jim Zorn. The only sure thing is that Clinton Portis will have a big year.

21.Tennessee Titans: The Titans made the playoffs last year because of the defense not Vince Young. If the Titans go out and get a big play receiver for Young to throw to, then they could take the next step. Until then the offense will go as far as LenDale White and Chris Johnson will take them.

22.Baltimore Ravens: Troy Smith is looking very impressive in mini camp and should be the guy starting in week one. Expect a big year from Willis McGahee as Cam Cameron loves utilizing his running backs.

23.New York Jets: They spent lots of money this offseason but do they have a quarterback yet?

24.Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals still have an explosive offense but Rudi Johnson is starting to decline. Keith Rivers will be stud at linebacker and will be a force for years to come.

25.Oakland Raiders: The Raiders improved their offense this offseason and with the defense they have in place,this team could be dangerous by the end of the season.

26.Chicago Bears: Can you believe this is the team that won the NFC two years ago? Until they improve at quarterback the Bears should be around this spot for a while.

27.Detroit Lions: The Lions should actually have a running game now with Mike Martz gone. Look for Kevin Smith to be one of the frontrunners for rookie of the year honors.

28.St.Louis Rams: The defense is getting better but the offensive line hasn't been able to protect Marc Bulger. If Bulger stays healthy the Rams could really improve from last year.

29.Atlanta Falcons: Chris Redman played well in relief last year but is only the answer until Matt Ryan is ready. The main question is if Michael Turner can carry the workload?

30.San Francisco 49ers: Alex Smith hasn't been worthy of the number one pick so far and in a Mike Martz offense he will take a beating. On the bright side, Patrick Willis is turning into one of the premiere linebackers in the league.


31.Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs had a great draft but they still don't have a quarterback to get Dwayne Bowe the ball.

32.Miami Dolphins: No matter who they start, it will be a young quarterback. At least the Dolphins are looking towards the future.

Fbkid's fantasy football top ten rookies

Football season is around the corner which means that fantasy drafts are almost here. Every year a couple rookies have big years. Last year Marshawn Lynch, Adrian Peterson and Dwayne Bowe all had great rookie seasons. Lynch and Peterson were both drafted in all leagues. But Bowe unlike them wasn't and ended up starting on most fantasy teams by the end of the season. Here are my top 10 fantasy rookies which could help win you your league if you draft one of these guys or steal them off the waiver wire.


1.Jonathan Stewart RB Panthers: Running backs are always among the highest scoring players in fantasy football. That is the case on this list as Stewart has a great chance to start right away. DeAngelo Williams has been productive the last two years for the Panthers but he isn't the every down back that Stewart is. If he recovers from his toe injury soon Stewart could be starting by week one and could become a very good number two back. Expect around 1200 total yards and 9 touchdowns.

2.Kevin Smith RB Lions: Smith like Stewart has a very good chance of starting week one for the Lions. Tatum Bell hasn't done anything yet in Detroit and Smith brings a bruising style that would help out the passing game. Be careful drafting Smith in dynasty leagues though as he had 450 carries last year at UCF and his body could start breaking down in a few years. But this year expect around 1300 total yards and 8 touchdowns.

3.Darren McFadden RB Raiders: I know people won't like that McFadden is this low on the list but until the Raiders show they have a passing game it will be hard for McFadden to run this year. You make an arguement saying the Vikings don't have a passing game either and how Adrian Peterson did but the Raiders don't have Bryant McKinnie and Steve Hutchinson on the offensive line. McFadden should make an impact right away though as early on he could be used as a decoy and start getting lots of carries around the middle of the season. To start the year off he would be a good option as a number three back. Expect around 1000 total yards and 7 touchdowns.

4.Matt Forte RB Bears: This is my sleeper of the group as even though Lovie Smith says the job is Cedric Benson's to lose, he hasn't done anything yet. Forte brings a bruising running style to the Bears and could be a very good option around the goal line. Forte could be a very good late round pick that could pay off in a big way. Expect around 900 total yards and 7 touchdowns.

5.James Hardy WR Bills: Hardy should start opposite Lee Evans right away for the Bills this year. Hardy needs to work on his route running but is a great red zone threat for the Bills and that is where he will make fantasy football owners love him. Expect around 700 yards and 8 touchdowns.

6.Malcolm Kelly WR Redskins: Kelly has a great chance of starting right away for the Redskins as he is a red zone threat that they didn't have last year. Kelly could have the most immediate impact out of all the rookie receivers and would be a good nunber four receiver until he proves himself. Expect around 800 yards and 5 touchdowns.

7.Felix Jones RB Cowboys: Jones should make a great tandem with Marion Barber as they compliment each others styles as running backs. Jones now brings an element to the Cowboys as he can score anytime he touches the ball. He might be best off trying to acquire on the waiver wire but that could be dangerous. If he has one big game, everyone will be rushing to get him. Expect around 700 total yards and 5 touchdowns.

8.Rashard Mendenhall RB Steelers: Many people would have expected to see Mendenhall higher on the list but with Willie Parker and the Steelers throwing the ball more, he won't get as many carries as people would think. Mendenhall should get around 100 to 150 carries so don't expect all world numbers. He is a great 1st round pick in a rookie league. Expect around 700 total yards and 4 touchdowns.

9.Mario Manningham WR Giants: Manningham could have an immediate impact on the Giants this year as a slot receiver but he should be starting in the next few years. Sinorice Moss hasn't done much yet so it's Manningham's job to lose. With teammates in Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burress he won't have to worry about much pressure from defenses. He would be a very good 2nd round pick in rookie leagues. Expect around 600 yards and 3 touchdowns.

10.Steve Slaton RB Texans: This is my 2nd big sleeper as Slaton has a very good chance of getting immediate playing time for the Texans. Ahman Green is injury prone and didn't do much last year and Chris Brown is injury prone as well. Slaton could also make a big impact in the return game as well. Expect around 900 total yards and 3 touchdowns.

Possibilities for the Browns at cornerback

Training camp isn't even underway and the Browns already have a position that needs to be addressed. That position is cornerback. After trading Leigh Bodden away in the offseason, Browns fans knew it wouldn't be the strongest position but now Daven Holly a corner entering his 4th year who was supposed to compete for a starting job, is now out for the year with a severe left leg injury. This is coming a week after the Browns cut Kenny Wright who was arrested on drug charges earlier this offseason. The Browns signed Terry Cousin yesterday which is a good move as he brings leadership and experience. Cousin though will be used more as a nickel corner like he was for the Jaguars. Here are some of my thoughts of what I feel the Browns should do to try and address the cornerback position.


Try to trade for Lito Sheppard: Just writing this I can already picture all of the "Braylon Edwards to the Eagles" posts i'm going to be seeing in the next few weeks. That trade though has no chance of happening though as Edwards is already establishing himself as one of the best receivers in the game. If the Browns do try and trade for Sheppard the asking price could be too much. If the Browns part with any receiver it would most likely me a guy like a Travis Wilson who has good size but hasn't made the impact they expected yet. This could be out of the Browns price range but it is an option.


Try and sign Ty Law: This move makes the most sense to me as Law already has experience in Romeo Crennel's system as they were both with the Patriots for the three super bowl titles. Law would be a great veteran presence for Eric Wright as Wright showed glimpses of why he could be a special corner in the league last year as a rookie. Law can still play as he has been productive the past couple years but at 34 he is starting to slow down a bit. He could also be out of the Browns price range but would bring good value if the Browns could sign him to a one year contract.


Trade for Domonique Foxworth: This could be the best possible move for the Browns as it won't cost nearly as much as the others. Foxworth has shown that he could be a solid corner but with Champ Bailey and Dre Bly ahead of him he won't get much of a shot to start in Denver. The Browns might be able to get him cheaper since he is entering the last year of his contract. All this might cost the Browns is a second round draft pick.


So to me the best move would be to go after Foxworth as he is young, and for the money brings good value. But other then that going after Ty Law makes the most sense for the Browns.

5-22-08 Weekly Mailbag

Recently I have came up with a new idea for me to do on the blog. That is for a weekly mailbag. Just send me your NFL questions and I will answer them on the blog. Since this is the first mailbag their isn't many questions but as your questions come in the mailbag will only improve.


Clearly Jake Long did the right thing by returning for his senior season at Michigan. What do you see in store for Chad Henne and Mike Hart?
While you're thinking about the Maize and Blue, what's in store for Manningham and Arrington?

FB: I feel that Henne could end up being a very good starting quarterback in the league as he has a strong arm,leadership and experience in big games. Henne also has experience in a pro style offense. He might not play for the Dolphins this year though as right now it's John Beck's job to lose. Beck is the only guy left on the team who started for them last year and even though he isn't a Bill Parcells type of quarterback,they will still give him a very good look. Beck I think will start for the Dolphins this year but Henne is the guy for the future.

Hart has a very good chance of becoming one of the steals of the draft in Indianapolis. As I mentioned in my AFC Draft grades article Kenton Keith is replaceable and Hart is good enough to come in and get 5 to 10 carries a game.

Manningham though could be a absolute stud in New York. He is now going to the defending Super Bowl champs and will get taught the game by Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burress who are both very good receivers. Manningham looked good in the first mini camp but he got hurt in the process so we will see what happens.

Arrington has the potential to be a very good player and could be another Marques Colston like find for the Saints in the 7th round. The only problem is the Saints are deep at receiver and character is a concern. The Saints haven't gotten anything out of last years first round pick at receiver Robert Meachem who didn't even step on an NFL field last year. At this point Arrington is more of a developmental project and should start off this year on the practice squad.

Fbkid's AFC South draft grades

It is the second installment of my draft grades and it is time to head to the AFC South. This could be the toughest division in all of football as 3 out of 4 teams made the playoffs. All of these teams have had success building through the draft so it should be tight race for who gets the best grade.


Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jaguars needed to address the defensive line heading into the draft and they did a good job focusing on it during day one. The Jaguars traded up to number 8 and selected Derrick Harvey. Harvey is a good player who will really help out the Jags but they gave up a lot to take him. This could end up being one of the riskiest moves in the draft. Quentin Groves was a good pick in the second round as he has great pass rushing ability. Groves is a first round talent but teams were scared off by his reported heart problems. Thomas Williams was a good pick in the 5th round as he should bring depth at linebacker and will make an impact on special teams. Trae Williams was a good value in the 5th round as he brings depth at corner which you can't get enough of when you play against the AFC's elite in the Patriots and the Colts twice. Chauncey Washington was a value in the 7th round as he could become a good kick returner and maybe become a key player in a few years as Fred Taylor is almost done. Overall the Jaguars had a good draft but it will all depend on how Harvey does to see if he was worth trading up 18 spots in the draft.

Grade: B-


Tennessee Titans: The Titans had a very interesting draft as many people thought that they would address wide receiver needs in the first round. Instead they drafted Chris Johnson in the first round. Johnson brings lots of speed to the offense and should make a great 1-2 punch with LenDale White. Johnson will also use his 4.24 speed to help in the return game. Jason Jones is a project at defensive end but could become a good player if he has time to develop. The Titans best pick though was receiver Lavelle Hawkins in the 4th round. Hawkins doesn't have great timed speed but plays faster then he is timed. The Titans got some solid players in the draft but where they picked them is the problem.

Grade: C

Indianapolis Colts: The Colts didn't have a pick in the first round but they did a good job of taking players who fit the teams system. Mike Pollak was the first center off the board in round two but he is very athletic and will be the eventual replacement of Jeff Saturday. Philip Wheeler was a good pick in the 3rd round as he gives the Colts a blitzing linebacker that they need. Jacob Tamme was a great pick in the 4th round as he gives the Colts another threat at tight end and will eventually replace Dallas Clark. Marcus Howard was also a solid pick in the 5 round as he should contribute on special teams and add depth at the linebacker position. Mike Hart was a good sleeper pick in the 6th round as he could become a decent 3rd down back and with the issues involving Kenton Keith, Hart could make an impact right away. The Colts didn't have many picks but for the few they had they made the most of them.

Grade:B


Houston Texans: The Texans got caught in a middle of a run on offensive tackles and some would consider that they reached to address a need. Duane Brown is a very athletic tackle who has experience on the left and right side but where the Texans took him was the issue. With the right coaching Brown could be one of the better offensive tackles in this draft class. Antwuan Moldin was a good pick in the 3rd round. He is a bit raw and if the Texans give him a few years the pick will really pay off for them. Steve Slaton was a value pick in the 3rd round. Slaton could end up playing a big part in the Texans backfield this season considering that both Chris Brown and Ahman Green are injury prone. Xavier Adibi was a very good pick in the 4th round as he and DeMeco Ryans should be forces at the linebacker position for years to come. The real wildcard of the draft for the Texans is 5th round pick Frank Okam. Okam is a first round talent but he isn't always focusing on the game. So overall the Texans did a very good job of addressing team needs. If Okam pans out, this draft could be a very good one for the Texans.

Fbkid's AFC North draft grades

The draft is now over so it is time to grade the teams to see how they did in the draft. I will be grading the teams and doing them by division. The first installment is the AFC North which is one of the toughest divisions in football. All of these teams have had great success building through the draft so it should be interesting to see who gets the best grade.


Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens should be happy with their draft as they traded down and got the guy they wanted in Joe Flacco. The only problem was they didn't have to trade up to 18 to get him. The Ravens probably could have got him at 26. Ravens fans agree with that as well. Just check Blogimore Ravens for more on the matter. Flacco though has a cannon arm which is something that the Ravens haven't had in a quarterback in a while. Ray Rice was a good pick in round 2 as he is very durable and is a good insurance policy for Willis McGahee. Tavares Gooden was a good pick in round 3 as he should develop and gives the Ravens depth to help a linebacker corps that is aging. Tom Zbikowski was a good pick in the 3rd round as well as he will help out immediately on special teams. Marcus Smith was a decent pick in the 4th round as the Ravens are still looking for a big play receiver. Smith is more of a project at this moment. Overall the Ravens had a good draft but they needed to address the cornerback position as both Samari Rolle and Chris McAllister are aging.

Grade:C+


Cincinnati Bengals: Lots of Bengals fans don't like the draft they had but it wasn't as bad as people think. Keith Rivers was a great value at number nine as he will be starting at linebacker for years to come. Jerome Simpson is a good pick in the second round but the problem is that more established receivers such as Malcolm Kelly and Limas Sweed were still on the board. Pat Sims was a good value in the 3rd round as he filled a need and many people had him as a first day pick. Andre Caldwell was a good pick in the 3rd round as he should immediately make an impact. Anthony Collins was a good pick in the 4th round as he brings depth to the offensive line. The Bengals got some good players in the draft and chances are that some of the picks will play from the start. If Mario Urrita pans out as a 7th round pick and turns into a good redzone target this draft looks a lot better.

Grade: C



Pittsburgh Steelers: Many people say the Steelers had the best draft out of any team. But lots of that is based on the name recognition of the class. Rashard Mendenhall was a good value for where the Steelers were picking and should compliment Willie Parker to improve the Steelers ground game. Ben Roethlisberger wanted a tall receiver and he got one in Limas Sweed in the second round. Sweed was a great value in the 2nd round and could start in a few years. The best pick the Steelers had was Bruce Davis as he fits perfectly with the Steelers 3-4 scheme. He and Lamarr Woodley should be book ends for the Steelers at linebacker for years to come. Dennis Dixon was a bit of a reach in round 5 as he will mainly be used on gadget plays. The Steelers got good value for where they picked but they didn't address the biggest need with the offensive line. If they addressed that more it could have been a great draft.

Grade:B


Cleveland Browns: The Browns didn't have a pick in the first three rounds but if you look closer they got great value out of those picks. With those three picks the Browns got Brady Quinn, Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers. I'm sure the Browns aren't complaining about that haul. Both Williams and Rogers are pro bowl caliber defensive tackles and where the Browns were taking it's not like Glenn Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis would have fallen to them. Unlike a quarterback they could have drafted, Quinn already knows the playbook and should start in a few years. In the 4th round Beau Bell was a good pick as he should get some playing time right away. Martin Rucker was a decent pick in round 4 as the Browns now have two great pass catching tight ends in Rucker and Kellen Winslow. The Browns didn't do much in the draft with the picks they had but what makes the draft is what came with the picks they traded away.

Fbkid's 2008 NFL Draft Big Board #2

The draft is only a week away so I feel it is a good time to release another big board. Considering the last big board was done in December many changes have happened. For instance, Andre Woodson was among the top 15 in the last installment. Now he probably won't even be a day one pick. So here is my second big board.


1.Jake Long T Michigan: Could be one of the safest picks in this draft after a great career at Michigan.

2.Glenn Dorsey DT LSU: Had a great pro day showing and could be a top 3 pick but durability is a concern.

3.Darren McFadden RB Arkansas: One of the most explosive players in the draft, McFadden should come in and make an immediate impact in the NFL.

4.Sedrick Ellis DT USC: Ellis is a force in the middle and will be a great additon to a team like the Bengals at number nine who have trouble stopping the run.

5.Chris Long DE Virginia: Long is another safe pick as he has a great motor and should be a force for years to come.

6.Matt Ryan QB Boston College:Has great mechanics and poise and is the closest it gets to a franchise quarterback in this draft class.

7.Vernon Gholston DE Ohio State: Had great workout numbers but is he the next Mike Mamula?

8.Branden Albert G/T Virginia: Albert was rising up the draft boards but his versatility now makes him a top ten pick.

9.Ryan Clady T Boise State: Has great potential but didn't play against much competition in college.

10.Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois: Mendenhall has the potential to be a very good back. The only problem is if he is a one year wonder.

11.Chris Williams T Vanderbilt: Has great size and has lots of experience against top competiton. The only question is if he is physical enough.

12.Keith Rivers LB USC: A great leader and has the potential to be the next great linebacker from USC.

13.Leodis McKelvin CB Troy: One of the best cover corners in the draft and has added value with his skills as a returner. The only question is the lack of competition he played in college.

14.Jeff Otah T Pittsburgh: Is versatile as he has played both left and right tackle. Has the potential to be a pro bowl caliber player.

15.Jerod Mayo LB Tennessee: Has good speed and is versatile as he has played inside and out. Has also been very productive against top competion in college.

16.Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tennessee State: Great athlete who has excellent leaping ability and will make a huge impact in the return game. The main question is how will he play against top competition.

17.Devin Thomas WR Michigan State: Has great size and isn't afraid to catch the ball in traffic and will also help in the return game. The only question is if he is a one year wonder.

18.Derrick Harvey DE Florida: Is a good athlete who has the potential to move to linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.

19.Jonathan Stewart RB Oregon: If not for concerns for his toe injury, would be a top 15 pick.

20.Phillip Merling DE Clemson: Has great size and a motor that is always running. Most teams will be scared off by the sports hernia surgery he needed.

21.Mike Jenkins CB USF: Has good coverage skills along with great closing speed. The only problem is that he sometimes plays down to the level of the competition.

22.Felix Jones RB Arkansas: Has great speed and finds the hole fast but would be best used complemented with a hard nosed runner like Marion Barber.

23.Kenny Phillips S Miami(FL):Has great size and moves pretty well. The only problem is that his production dropped when Brandon Meriweather went to the NFL.

24.Chris Johnson RB East Carolina: Has fantastic speed as he ran a 4.24 at the combine. Is a good receiver and is a excellent return man. Could also be used as a 3rd down back.

25.Limas Sweed WR Texas: Has great size and makes lots of acrobatic catches. The only problem is that he has a history of injuries.

Fbkid's 2008 Draft Rankings: Cornerback

Cornerback is one of the most important positions in the NFL as if you don't have quality corners, teams will pass all over you. That is why it is important to draft well at this position as it could be a key player on your team for years to come.
Here are my top 10 corners in the draft.

2008 class grade:A-

Mike Jenkins has good size along with 4.4 speed. He is also very physical and could help in the return game. The only problem is that he isn't great in run support.

Leodis McKelvin has great speed and will make a huge impact in the return game. He has good coverage skills and can score anytime he touches the ball. The only problem is that he didn't play much competiton in college but that didn't matter much for another Troy alum, Demarcus Ware.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was viewed to be a great sleeper pick but after great showings at the Senior Bowl and the combine, he's now a middle first round pick.He is also a great kick returner and could develop into a pro bowl corner just like his cousin Antonio Cromartie on the Chargers.

Aquib Talib has great size and has good intangibles. The only problem is that he doesn't play as fast as timed and isn't that physical.

Reggie Smith is very versatile and can also play safety. He has great size and has good technique but doesn't have the speed to keep up with receivers.

Brandon Flowers is a strong tackler who has good insincts. He also has played big in big games. The only problem is that he doesn't have elite speed.


Patrick Lee has great speed and has good size. He can really help in the return game but is still learning the game.

Antoine Cason was one of the top corners entering the year but has slipped towards the second round. Cason has good instincts but doesn't have the quickness or speed teams look for.


Justin King looked like a sure first rounder early in his career but can still be a very good corner. King has great timed speed and is physical. The only problem is that he doesn't match up well against taller receivers and could be considered a workout warrior.

Charles Godfrey has great speed and is very versatile as he has started at safety and cornerback. Godfrey has the size to match up with tall receivers as well. He could be steal for somebody in the late second early third round.


So overall this class of corners is very strong as as many as six could be drafted by the first round. Many of them should make immediate impacts next year or in the future.

One of the deepest positions in this years draft is running back. Around four players at the position could be drafted in the first round.Here are my top 10 running backs in the draft.

2008 class grade:A

Darren McFadden is regarded by many to be the best prospect in the draft. He has great speed and is a physical runner. Character is a concern though.

Rashard Mendenhall could be the most complete back in the draft as he is a good receiver and a physical runner. The only problem is some scouts think that he is a product of the spread offense run at Illinois.

Jonathan Stewart is a power runner who is a physical specimen. The only thing wrong is that he needed toe surgery and could be out for 4 months which could make him fall in the draft. Whoever gets him could be getting a steal.

Felix Jones was very productive at Arkansas but he won't be able to carry the load as he has never had more than 154 carries in a season. He would need a back like McFadden to compliment him.

Chris Johnson is the fastest back in the draft as he ran a 4.24 forty yard dash at the combine. He is a good receiver and should help immediately in the return game.

Ray Rice was a very durable back in college as he never missed a game due to injury. The only problem is that he doesn't have the top end speed teams look for in a featured back.

Tashard Choice is a very hard runner with good size and shows good burst in traffic. He could become a good number two option in the future.

Kevin Smith was very productive at Central Florida and has great vision. The only problem is that he had 450 carries last season and if used early in his career could become overworked like Larry Johnson a few years ago.

Matt Forte had a great senior season and is a good receiver out of the backfield. The only problem is that he runs upright and doesn't have breakaway speed.

Jamaal Charles has top end speed and could help out in the return game right away. He won't be able to carry the load though but could become a solid number two back.


So overall this class of running backs is very deep as many of these players could make an immediate impact in the NFL and could be productive for years to come.

This is similar to my last list except for wide receivers. This is one of the most talked about positions in the draft so to see what happens should be interesting. So here are my top 10 receivers in the draft.

2008 class grade:B


Malcolm Kelly has everything you want in a receiver as he has great hands along with running good routes. He is also a spectacular red-zone target.

Limas Sweed is a similar player to Kelly and could make an impact right away. The only problem is that he has a history with injuries.

DeSean Jackson isn't the prototypical size teams look for in a receiver but his impact on returns will make him an early pick.

Devin Thomas has great size and is excellent after the catch. He will need to develop though as he was only a one-year starter.

James Hardy is a great red-zone target at 6'6. His only problem is that he needs to put on weight to be even more effective.

Mario Manningham has the potential to be a productive receiver in the NFL. But after a poor showing at the combine his stock has fallen. He is quick though and plays faster than his timed speed would suggest.

Early Doucet is a productive player who could end up being a solid bargin for a team who takes him in the late second early 3rd round.

Earl Bennett ended his college career as one of the top receivers in SEC history. If his stats look poor the last few years it is because the lack of quarterback play after Jay Cutler left.

Jerome Simpson had a great performance at the combine and has great size. He also has great hands he has potential to be a great starter.

Dexter Jackson is one of the fastest receivers in the draft and could also really help in the return game. He could develop into a solid number three receiver.


Many of these players have lots of potential and could be impact players for years to come. The only thing is that receiver is always a deep position and a player with potential like Marques Colston can fall through the cracks all the way to the 7th round.

Why isn't anyone talking about D.J. Hackett?

Most of the big free agents have come and gone but one of the best players is still on the market and nobody is talking about him. In fact he wasn't even one of the top 3 talked about players at his position. That player is Seahawks wide receiver D.J. Hackett.


Hackett is a 6'2 208 pound receiver who has played 4 seasons in the NFL. He was originally drafted by the Seahawks in the 5th round in the 2004 draft. Hackett became one of Matt Hasselbeck's favorite targets in his time in Seattle. Even though Hackett only played 6 games last year, he still managed to have 32 catches for 384 yards and 3 touchdowns last season. For his career, Hackett has 105 career catches for 1394 yards and 9 touchdowns.


Hackett would fit well with many teams that need receiver. The Bucs and Redskins are both very interested in his services and the Bills and Eagles would be good fits. Hackett with his size could also bring a redzone target that teams crave and he should be cheaper than spending a first rounder on a receiver who hasn't proven anything. Plus Hackett is only 26 years old which is younger then receivers such as Donte Stallworth and Randy Moss who commanded big money in the offseason. Hackett should make an immediate impact in any offense the only question is what team wants him the most.

The combine has come and gone and now pro days are almost gone. It's now time to look at the positional rankings for who will be drafted in April. The firs topic is possibly the most important quarterback. Here are my top 10 signal callers in this upcoming draft.

2008 class grade: B-

Summary: Matt Ryan is the only 1st round quarterback in the class as he has everything teams look for in a quarterback.

Brian Brohm coming into the season was projected to be the first quartrback taken but a rough senior season hurt his case.

Chad Henne shined in the Gator Bowl and had a consistent career at Michigan. He also ran a pro-style offense and could become a decent starter.

Joe Flacco is a developmental pick who has a great arm but needs to work on his footwork.

John David Booty has proven himself as a winner and could become a solid backup.

Josh Johnson is very similar to Tarvaris Jackson coming out of college a few years ago. Johnson though ran a pro style offense and no matter who you play a season with 43 touchdowns and only 1 interception is very impressive.

Andre Woodson is the biggest faller of the group as he was projected to be a 1st round pick. A bad senior bowl,pro day and combine now have Woodson wondering if he will be drafted on the first day.

Erik Ainge has the physical skills and could become a solid backup.

Colt Brennan has some positives but really struggled in the Sugar Bowl against the speed Georgia had.

Kevin O'Connell could be a good sleeper pick late and could become a solid backup.


Overall this drafts quarterback class isn't as deep as years past. Although most have these guys could become solid backups and even quality starters.

Marcus Stroud traded to Bills

Marcus Stroud has now gotten his wish. Earlier this week his agent Drew Rosenhaus was told that he was allowed to shop Stroud for a possible trade. That search now has him as a Buffalo Bill. Stroud,an all pro defensive tackle was traded for a 3rd and a 5th round pick. Stroud has had trouble staying healthy but when he is ,he remains a force in the middle. The Jaguars should now replace him with Rob Meir or possibly either Derek Landri who was impressive in the playoffs. This is a good move for both teams as the Bills now don't have to pay first round money to a defensive tackle and the Jaguars do very well at drafting in the later rounds. The only problem for the Jags if they try and address defensive tackle in the draft. Glenn Dorsey and Sedrick Ellis, the two best at the position will both be gone in the top ten. Even Kentwan Balmer of North Carolina who I consider the 3rd best defensive tackle could be gone.

Jaguars sign DB Drayton Florence

It is day two in free agency and the Jaguars have made another move signing cornerback Drayton Florence. Florence had played the previous 5 seasons of his career with the Chargers and did well. For his career he has 237 tackles and 10 interceptions. Last year was one of his best as he had 61 tackles to go along with 2 interceptions. Florence will bring versatility to the Jaguars secondary as he can also help out at safety which is a position that the team was looking to address this offseason or through the draft.

Jaguars make an early splash in free agency

After the Jaguars traded for wide receiver Troy Williamson earlier this week, most experts thought that the receiver position won't be addressed until the draft. Well the Jaguars already proved them wrong. The Jaguars signed Jerry Porter to a 6 year $30 million deal that includes $10 million in guaranteed money. Porter had played on the Raiders the previous eight years of his career. Porter had a solid season last year as he had 44 catches for 705 yards and 6 touchdowns. The only problem with the signing of Porter is that he is built very similar to the Jags other receivers. Questions have also been brought up about his character as Porter is known to have had gotten in fights with Art Shell during the 2006 season in which the Raiders went 2-14.


The Jaguars made another big signing today with quarterback Cleo Lemon. Lemon signed a 3 year deal worth around $9 million. Lemon will likely be the backup to David Garrard as Quinn Gray is a free agent. Lemon last season threw for 1,7773 yards with 6 touchdowns along with 6 interceptions. He could end up being a solid backup for the Jags but could be in trouble if he needs to start.


So overall the Jags didn't do to badly today in the free agency market. But considering this is only the first day, plenty more news will come.

Fbkid's all combine team

The combine has come to a close and many things have changed in regards to draft stock. Players will have stock that will change daily but this ranking will stay forever. They will have made the all combine team. None of these guys have played a down in the NFL yet but if the game was played in Under Armour shirts,they would be pretty good. Here is my 2008 All Combine team.


QB: Josh Johnson San Diego: Impressed scouts with 4.4 speed and surprising arm strength.


RB: Chris Johnson East Carolina: After a combine best 4.24 forty,people aren't taking him as lightly anymore.

RB: Darren McFadden Arkansas: It's hard to believe but McFadden's stock went up at the combine.

WR: Dexter Jackson Appalachian State: Put up a 4.37 in the forty and keeps impressing scouts with his good hands.

WR: William Franklin Missouri: Showed everything that an NFL team looks for in a receiver measuring in at 6'4 214 pounds along with running a 4.37 forty.

TE: Dustin Keller Purdue:Impressed scouts with a 4.5 forty which was best for tight ends. He also showed good hands in the passing drills.


T: Jake Long Michigan: Scouts were very impressed when Long weighed in at 6'7 313 pounds. He also moved well in drills.

G: Branden Albert Virginia: Impressed with scouts with mobility and great size.

C: Mike Pollak Arizona State: Did well in drills along with running a 5.02 forty. The fastest of all centers.

G: Chilo Rachal USC: Impressed scouts with size and the way he moved in drills.

T: Oniel Cousins UTEP: Is a developmental pick as of now but showed scouts that he could become a solid pro.


Defense:

DE: Chris Long DE Virginia: Long did very well in the drills and ran a impressive 4.7 forty.

DT: Kentwan Balmer North Carolina: Showed great size and moved well.

DT: Sedrick Ellis USC: Performed well in drills and Glenn Dorsey not participating made it seem that much better.

DE: Vernon Gholston Ohio State: Gholston showed that he is a freakish athlete after running a 4.6 forty and being among the leaders at the bench press.

LB: Shawn Crable Michigan: Showed good size and ran a impressive 4.6 forty.

LB: Jerod Mayo Tennessee: Had one of the best forty times of any linebacker and did well in the drills.

LB: Jonathan Goff Vanderbilt: Goff showed great speed running a 4.6 forty along with being one of the leaders at his position in the bench press.

CB: Dominique Rodgers Cromartie Tennessee State: His stock is going up by the minute after doing well in drills and running a 4.33 forty.

CB: Mike Jenkins USF: One of the only things scouts were wondering is how he would run. A 4.38 forty should keep his draft stock high.

S: Josh Barrett Arizona State: Impressed with a 4.35 forty and did well in the drills.

S: DaJuan Morgan S NC State: Morgan did well in the bench press along with the drills.

Reports: Jaguars to acquire Troy Williamson

Acording to the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Minneapolis Star-Tribune the Vikings have agreed in principle to trade wide receiver Troy Williamson to the Jaguars in exchange for a second-day pick. Since day two spans rounds 3-7, I would expect around a 5th or 6th rounder.

Williamson will bring speed that the Jaguars lack at receiver but he needs to eliminate drops for a chance to be the kind of player he could be. So for the Jags I don't see what the trade really does for them. Unless you consider that with Matt Jones already on board, they're doing a great job of cornering the market of overdrafted receivers from the '05 draft. In fact only Mike Williams is in the way of a complete set.

Fbkid's Combine winners and losers day 2

The combine is here and pretty much all of the offensive players have reported. Along with that are the players who are winners and losers. That has happened to many players so far and will change there daily moving draft stock. Here are my winners and losers at Indy so far.


Winners:

Michigan tackle Jake Long really impressed the scouts weighing in at 6'7 313 pounds. Scouts were also impressed that the distance from his pinky to thumb was as long as a ruler. Long was a projected top 5 pick but now could move into the top 3.

Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan's draft stock needed a boost and got it when he stepped on the scale and weighed 208 pounds. At the Senior Bowl Brennan weighed in at 185 which means that he gained 23 pounds in the last month.

Quarterbacks Brian Brohm of Louisville and Joe Flacco of Delaware have a easier task of impressing the scouts this weekend as Matt Ryan won't be participating in activities. The winner of this battle, will likely be the 2nd quarterback off the board come April.

Losers:

Cal receiver DeSean Jackson could have been the big loser of the day. Jackson who coming in was listed at 5'11,measured in at 5'9 167 pounds. He needs to do very well in receiving drills and the 40 to keep being considered one of the top receivers in the class.

Receivers Malcolm Kelly of Oklahoma and Early Doucet of LSU are both going to be missing activities this weekend due to injuries. This will hurt Doucet more than Kelly as he was a boarderline late 1st early 2nd pick. Kelly though could still remain a top 2 receiver if Limas Sweed of Texas performs poorly.

Quarterback Andre Woodson of Kentucky will not be working out which seems like a bad decision. Woodson would not have had to worry about the pressure of competing with the top quarterback in Matt Ryan along with the fact his stock could go up if he does better than Chad Henne of Michigan and John David Booty of USC. Woodson might possibly head into his pro day as the 6th ranked quarterback.

Fbkid's Super Bowl Predictions

It is finally here. The game we have all been waiting for,the Super Bowl. Lots of things have happened in the NFL since the season has started. For instance with the two teams in the big game. I'm sure every player on the Patriots would say the first 18 wins were worthless without a Super Bowl ring. The Giants stunned everyone this season. Not only did most experts think the would finish in the cellar of the NFC East, they won an incredible 10 road games. Here is my Super Bowl prediction along with the key to victory and X-Factor for each team.


Giants

Key to Victory: Eli Manning QB: For the Giants to win, Manning has to keep playing the way he has all postseason. If he avoids costly mistakes, the Giants have a great chance of winning the game.

X-Factor: Ahmad Bradshaw RB: Most people don't realize that when the game is on the line and the Giants are running out clock, Brandon Jacobs isn't getting the ball. Instead it is Bradshaw as a surprise rookie out of Marshall doing the damage. Bradshaw has 163 yards rushing this postseason and is a home run threat to score. If he gets 12 to 17 carries the Giants are in good shape.


Patriots

Key to Victory: Laurence Maroney RB: Maroney has played very well this postseason and has had 2 100 yard games. If he can run the ball, that will be keep the Giants dominant front four from getting to Tom Brady.

X-Factor: Kevin Faulk RB: Faulk has been a key component of all of the Patriots Super Bowl wins and is one of the most underrated players on the team. Faulk has the versatility to run and catch passes out of the back field. If Faulk gets around 70 total yards the Patriots are in good shape.


Prediction: The Giants had a great run to get this far but all in all I think the Patriots just have too much fire power. My prediction is Giants 21 Patriots 27.

Has Chad Henne moved into the 1st round of the draft?

Going into the start of his senior season Chad Henne was said by many draft experts to be the 6th best quarterback in the draft behind the likes of Matt Ryan, Brian Brohm, Andre Woodson,Colt Brennan and John David Booty. Well after the last month Henne has had scouts aren't saying that anymore.


Henne's 2008 started off with a great performance against Florida in the Capital One Bowl. In that game Henne went 25 of 39 for 373 yards along with 3 touchdowns. Not to mention while Henne did that, Woodson didn't look sharp against a short handed FSU defense and Colt Brennan did terrible in his game as well against Georgia as he took more hits than Bob Marley.


Now it's a few weeks later at the Senior Bowl and Henne shines again. Henne went 5 of 9 for 64 yards and 2 touchdowns and was the North MVP. Woodson on the other hand took a safety and fumbled but he did throw a touchdown. Brennan's bad luck continues though as he went 2 of 6 for 29 yards and a pick. He was also sick leading up to the game and only weighed in at 185.

So if you are stunned when Roger Goddell walks up to the podium on a Saturday in late April and announces Henne's name, don't be. Henne can make many NFL calibar throws and should be making an impact on Sundays for years to come.

Fbkid's championship weekend picks

It is finally here. The weekend that determines who will be making the most important game of the year. Last week was great to watch but hard to pick as I went 2-2. Lets hope I get back into my wildcard form this week. Here are my championship weekend predictions.


Chargers vs Patriots: The Chargers stunned everyone last weekend beating the Colts in Indianapolis. But on offense the Chargers big play threats are all banged up. Antonio Gates still has a bad toe but played last week. Philip Rivers might play this week but experience wise the Chargers might be better off just going with Billy Volek. Most importantly,LaDanian Tomlinson is hurt and will probably play. Tomlinson has to step up though as he has played poorly the last few games. The Patriots were pretty much perfect last week. Tom Brady only had 2 incompletions which is outstanding but you have to consider that Randy Moss only caught one pass. Moss has had some legal issues leading up to this game and that could affect him. Look for Wes Welker to step up and have a big game. As long as the Patriots defense stops the run,it could be a long day for the Chargers. My prediction is the Chargers 17 Patriots 35.

Giants vs Packers: The Giants also surprised lots of people going into Dallas and winning. Considering everyone said that Eli Manning was inconsistent in the regular season,he doesn't look like that now. Manning isn't making mistakes which is the main reason why his team is winning games. Brandon Jacobs is doing a good job running the ball and Ahmad Bradshaw has been a good change of pace back. Plaxico Burress needs to step up if the Giants want to win. The Packers played great last week and if Brett Favre keeps playing like he has the Pack could win it all. Ryan Grant won't get 200 yards every game but needs a big game. Considering the poor conditions both teams will run most of the time. The Packers receivers should have big games as the Giants secondary is banged up. So with all of this considered my prediction is the Giants 20 Packers 27.

Is Reggie Bush the second coming of Peter Warrick?

Coming into the NFL,Reggie Bush was one of the most hyped rookies in recent history. Bush came into the league from Southern California and a heisman trophy so he was a marketing dream for most companies. Most rookies coming in don't have endorsements with Subway are challenge the diet pepsi machine at the combine. But looking at Bush's career so far it is very similar to another player who had come out in the last decade. That player is Peter Warrick.

If you remember Peter Warrick was just like Reggie Bush coming out of Florida State. Warrick could line up any place on the field and was a threat to score every time he touched the ball. In 2000 Warrick was drafted by the Bengals with the 5th pick overall and was expected to change the franchise. Well lets just when your quarterback is Akili Smith not to many positive things will happen. When Smith left Warrick had a string of a few good seasons but with the development of Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmanzadeh, Warrick is now watching the playoffs at his house. For his career Warrick caught 275 passes for 2,991 yards along with 22 career touchdowns.

Bush coming into the league was also expected to change the franchise. Well that's a little easier when the quarterback is Drew Brees. Through 2 seasons Bush has 15 career touchdowns along with 161 receptions while averaging 3.7 yards a carry. He along with Warrick is enjoying the playoffs from home. Here are some more things the players have in common.


Scandal: In the last few years it has come out that Bush's family was getting housing from an agent hoping to land Bush as a client. That is against NCAA rules and could possibly cost Bush his heisman trophy.

Warrick in college got suspended for receiving gifts at a Dillard's from someone he knew that worked there.

Playing in someones shadow: At USC, Bush was the one who got all of the highlights but he wasn't even the best back on his team. LenDale White had more yards this season than Bush has for his career and his proven he can be a solid NFL back.

Warrick got all of the attention from defenses in college but his teammate Laveranues Coles has become the better pro player as has over 550 career catches for 7000 yards and almost 40 touchdowns.

So with everything that they have in common and the way there careers have been similar up to this point, don't be surprised if 5 years from now,Bush is watching football in his house and not playing.

It was a great wild card weekend as I went a perfect 4-0 on my picks last week.Lets hope the trend continues this week. Here are my divisional playoff predictions.

Jaguars vs Patriots: If the weather in Foxboro is 20 degrees and snowing the Jaguars have a great chance of winning this game. The problem is that it is expected to be in the low 40's with light winds. That means Tom Brady will be in full force continuing his record breaking season with 50 touchdown passes. Jaguars defensive tackle John Henderson got hurt against the Steelers but will be coming back for the game and safety Reggie Nelson is also banged up. The Jags need to get the running game going from the start with Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew. But David Garrard does 9 of 21 again it could be a long night. My prediction putting all of this into play is the Jaguars 17 Patriots 31.


Seahawks vs Packers: Most people are talking about Brett Favre being in the playoffs again but in the process they are overlooking the Seahawks. The Seahawks showed great postseason composure when the Redskins took a lead in the 3rd quarter by not getting frustrated. The Seahawks ended up blowing them out. The key for the Seahawks is to get constant pressure on Favre with Julian Peterson and Patrick Kerney as they combine for almost 30 sacks. Favre has had a great season but without a stable running back in Ryan Grant, the Packers might not have gotten a first round bye. Grant had over 800 yards in the last half of the season and along with Greg Jennings and Donald Driver make great weapons for Favre. Plus the Packers have 2 all pro corners in Charles Woodson and Al Harris which will make it hard for Matt Hasselbeck and the Seahawks passing game. My prediction is the Seahawks 21 Packers 27.

Giants vs Cowboys: The Giants played very well last week against the Bucs and if Eli Manning plays like that, they can beat anyone on any given Sunday. The Cowboys have one of the most explosive offenses in the league being led by Tony Romo. Romo was 2nd in the league with 36. Terrell Owens says he is going to play with an ankle injury and that will hurt the Giants secondary even more. Sam Madison and Kevin Dockery will most likely both missing the game. The Giants need to get Brandon Jacobs running early as he has been playing very well lately. They also need to get the ball in the hands of Plaxico Burress and Ahmad Bradshaw more. Both are threats to score everytime they touch the ball. For the Cowboys Marion Barber should get the majority of carries this week as it could end up being a battle of defenses. This is no doubt going to be a great game. So in the words of Terrell Owens,"Get your popcorn ready" because it's going to be a close game. My prediction is the Giants 20 Cowboys 24.

Chargers vs Colts: The Colts have been under the radar the whole season. But now they are starting to get healthy and people are taking notice. Marvin Harrison should be playing for the first time in a few months. That will take pressure away from Reggie Wayne and rookie Anthony Gonzalez. Peyton Manning had another solid season with over 30 touchdown passes. Joseph Addai also proved he could carry the load of a feature back. On defense it is all about safety Bob Sanders as he won defensive player of the year. If Sanders isn't on the field the Colts are a total different team. Philip Rivers did a good job of spreading the ball around last week. But to beat the Colts you will need more than 13 points. LaDanian Tomlinson also has to average more than 2 yards a carry and prove to be the MVP player that he is. With Antonio Gates gone Vincent Jackson and Chris Chambers both need to step up at receiver. The defense has proven they can get pressure on Peyton Manning as he threw 6 picks the last time they played. Sean Phillips and Shawne Merriman both need to get lots of pressure on Manning for that to happen. My prediction is Chargers 20 Colts 35.

Fbkid's 2007-2008 NFL season all underrated team offense

It has been a great year so far in the NFL and the playoffs are only making it better but not all is well for everyone on this list. These are all players who put up big numbers and are productive but they don't get there due. Here is the offense of my all underrated team.

QB: Matt Hasselbeck Seahawks: Hasselbeck always is consistent and puts up big numbers but for some reason never gets publicity. Hasselbeck's rating was over 90 this season with 28 touchdowns and had 3,966 yards. Trust me if you have him on your fantasy team you won't forget who he is.


RB: Justin Fargas Raiders: I bet coming into the season more people knew that Fargas'dad played Huggy Bear on "Starsky and Hutch" than the fact that his son is on the Raiders. Fargas came into his own this year though with 1000 yards on less than 225 carries. You may not know him know but Fargas is going to get some major money this offseason.

WR:Marques Colston Saints: Colston was one of the most talked about players in football last year but now he's considered underrated? That's because the myth of the Sophomore slump. As most people thought Colston would have a poor 2nd season,he did even better with 98 catches 1200 yards and 11 touchdowns. Wow that's some slump.

WR:Brandon Marshall Broncos: Heading into the season Marshall was overlooked as Javon Walker was supposed to be the no.1 receiver in Denver. A few weeks later Walker went down and Marshall had a great year. Marshall had 102 catches for 1325 yards and 7 touchdowns. He might also be the best receiver after the catch in the league.

WR:Jerricho Cotchery Jets: Cotchery this season as the new go to guy. The problem was the team was so bad nobody noticed. Cotchery had 82 catches for 1130 yards and 2 touchdowns. Imagine what that would be with a full time quarterback.

TE: Chris Cooley Redskins: Cooley was one of the most productive tight ends in the league but hardly gets the credit of the Antonio Gates and Kellen Winslow's of the league. Cooley was 4th among all tight ends in receptions with 66 and had more touchdowns than Winslow and Tony Gonzalez with 8. That kind of year is why Cooley will be enjoying Hawaii in February.

T:Jason Peters Bills:Peters went from an undrafted free agent to a quality tackle and is getting rewarded going to Hawaii. He is the major reason why Marshawn Lynch had over 1100 yards in his rookie season.

G: Steve Hutchinson Vikings: For what Hutchinson does he doesn't get enough credit. There is a reason why Sean Alexander looks like an average back when he leaves. Just look at Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor now.

C.Jeff Saturday Colts: To read the defense and make constant changes at the line is something Saturday excels at. Without it the Colts might be a totally different team. He compliments Peyton Manning perfectly.

G:Vince Manuwai Jaguars: Manuwai has improved in every season and is opening holes for one of the best running attacks in all of football. Don't be surprised if he gets to Hawaii soon.

T: Michael Roos Titans: Roos has established himself as one of the best young tackles in the league but hasn't got he credit he deserves. In the next few years he will be in Hawaii.

KR: Josh Cribbs Browns: Cribbs is a do it all player as he averaged over 30 yards per return and took 2 back for touchdowns. He also added 1 punt return score. Cribbs averages 9 yards more per kick return for Devin Hester and what one gets all of the hype? Plus Cribbs is a gunner on special teams and had 20 special teams tackles.

Can the Jaguars beat the Patriots?

Many people thought going into the day that the Jaguars will be playing the Patriots in the 2nd round of the playoffs. That has now been confirmed as the Chargers defeated the Titans 17-6. But with the Patriots pursuit of perfection and a lights out offense,do the Jaguars have a chance?

If it is a windy and snowy day in Foxboro the Jaguars have a great chance of pulling off an enormous upset. The Jaguars are great at running the ball in bad weather conditions as they proved in a week 15 win in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. The main problem is if David Garrard can control the game. Garrard went only 9 for 21 for 140 yards a touchdown and 2 interceptions against the Steelers on Saturday. Fred Taylor will also need 20 plus carries so he can get the Patriots older defense tired. Then the Jags can bring in Maurice Jones-Drew who is a home run threat.

The Patriots on offense have a huge advantage. The Jaguars strength on defense is stopping the run and well the Patriots hardly run. The Patriots offensive line also doesn't have the injuries that the Steelers had to deal with. The Jaguars need to knock around Tom Brady if they even want to stay in the game. Another problem is that the Jaguars don't have the secondary to cover the Patriots speed at receiver. Wes Welker should have a huge game as Terry Cousin isn't as quick as he used to be. Look for Tom Brady to try and find Randy Moss deep often as Reggie Nelson is inexperienced and Sammy Knight doesn't have the speed to keep up.

So the game on saturday night should be a great one. As long as the Jags stick to running the ball it should go down to the wire. As of now my predicted score is Jaguars 17 Patriots 35. But my predictions will be coming out later this week so stay tuned.

The real MVP of the Jaguars Steelers game

After the game when people are discussing what player was the most valuable player in the Jaguars Steelers game most people would pick the obvious and go with Maurice Jones-Drew. Don't get me wrong Jones-Drew had a great game but the real MVP was his former high school teammate. Derek Landri coming into the game was a 4th round pick out of Notre Dame and had 11 tackles in his first season and played with Jones-Drew at De La Salle in California. But when John Henderson went down in the games first series Landri came in and decided to shine. Landri brought lots of energy to the Jags front 7. He only had 1 tackle which was a sack but his impact was much bigger than that. Late in the 2nd quarter Landri read a screen and picked off a Ben Roethlisberger pass to stop a Pittsburgh scoring drive. But most importantly Landri recovered a Roethlisberger fumble with 29 seconds to seel the victory for the Jaguars. This could be the best game of Landri's career or the start of something big but either way it will be a game that he will never forget.

Fbkid's wild card weekend predictions

It was a great regular season as I went 172-84 on the season with my predictions. Lets hope the momentum carries over to the playoffs. Here are my Wild Card weekend predictions.


Redskins vs Seahawks: The Redskins have come into the playoffs on a roll playing behind quarterback Todd Collins who has played great mistake-free football. Clinton Portis is also playing well with over 1200 yards and 11 touchdowns. Santana Moss is getting healthy as he has 2 touchdowns in his last 3 games. Chris Cooley is a very good option for Collins as he has over 775 yards along with 8 touchdowns.The defense is playing very well rallying around the death of safety Sean Taylor. Andre Carter leads the defense with 10 sacks and London Fletcher has 128 tackles on the season.

The Seahawks must be loving the fact that nobody is talking about them in the NFC. Matt Hasselbeck is playing very well with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Sean Alexander needs to get healthy though as he is only averaging 3.5 yards a carry. If Alexander can't go Maurice Morris has proved himself as a very good backup. Bobby Engram had a breakout season at receiver with over 90 catches and 1100 yards. DJ Hackett and Deion Branch are also very good options if healthy. Patrick Kearney is playing well with 14 sacks on the season along with Julian Peterson who has 10 sacks. The Redskins won't be passing much on Marcus Trufant as he has 7 interceptions on the season.

Prediction: The Redskins have come very far to get to this point but considering that Seattle is an experienced team playing in a hostile environment I don't think that the Redskins can pull it off. My predicted score is Redskins 17 Seahawks 21.

Jaguars vs Steelers: The Jaguars might be the only team in the league that would want to go to Pittsburgh for a playoff game. The Jaguars play the style of football that wins games in January as they have a great running game and a very physical defense. David Garrard has had a great season as he has 18 touchdowns with only 3 interceptions. Fred Taylor has finally made the Pro Bowl and deserves it after getting more than 1200 rushing yards and averaging 5.4 yards a carry. Maurice Jones-Drew is also a great runner for this weather as he gets most of his yards after contact and is a force near the goal line. Jones-Drew has more than 2000 all purpose yards along with 9 rushing touchdowns. Reggie Williams has stepped up the last few weeks and has become a serious threat with 10 touchdowns and 629 yards. The defense is very strong on the front 4 but without Marcus Stroud Rob Meier is filling in and is one of the most underrated defensive tackles in the league and mid season pickup Grady Jackson is a force in the middle. Rookie Justin Durant has also done a good job at outside linebacker while Daryl Smith moved to the middle to replace the injured Mike Peterson. The Jaguars have problems at safety as Reggie Nelson as a rookie can't read defenses that well yet and Sammy Knight is getting older.

The Steelers faded at the end of the season but still have the players and experience to be serious contenders in the AFC. Ben Roethlisberger had a career season with 32 touchdowns. He was bothered by an ankle injury last time these teams played and hasn't fully healed. With Willie Parker out with a broken leg,Najeh Davenport is the replacement and has done well so far. Davenport has 500 yards on the season along with 5 touchdowns. Hines Ward has played well as a posession receiver averaging 10 yards a catch with 7 touchdowns. Santonio Holmes has become the team's big play threat averaging 18 yards a catch with 8 touchdowns. The defense was one of the best in the regular season as James Harrison had 8 sacks and forced 7 fumbles.Ike Taylor leads the team with 3 interceptions but the real key is if safety Troy Polamalu plays as he is the leader of the defense.

Prediction: Pittsburgh is a hard place to play but the Jags have proven that it can be done with a power running game. My prediction is the Jaguars 24 Steelers 20.

Giants vs Bucs: The Giants have been inconsistent this season but if the offense clicks like last week they are in good shape. If Eli Manning does a good job of managing the game and avoiding turnovers the Giants could win. Manning threw 23 touchdowns this season but came with 20 interceptions. Brandon Jacobs had some injury issues but when he gets going he is hard to stop. Jacobs had over 1000 yards and 4 touchdowns. Plaxico Burress is still an elite red zone threat as he had 12 touchdowns. The defense is led by Antonio Pierce who had 103 tackles on the season. Osi Umenyiora played very well getting 13 sacks on the season and Justin Tuck had 10 sacks with Michael Strahan adding 9, so this team can get to the quarterback. Sam Madison is getting older but led the team in interceptions with 4.

The Bucs have greatly improved from last year as they went from picking in the top 5 to winning the division. Some of that is due to the fact that they finally have stability at quarterback with Jeff Garcia's 13 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Ernest Graham is playing well as he almost had 900 yards and added in 10 touchdowns. Joey Galloway can still play but the Bucs don't know what they will get out of him each game. Galloway will either get you 140 yards and a touchdown or 1 catch for 18 yards. Derrick Brooks is the leader of the defense with over 100 tackles and provides great veteran leadership. Greg White leads the team with 8 sacks and rookie Gaines Adams came on late in the season with 6 sacks.Jermaine Phillips leads the team with 4 interceptions and Ronde Barber had 2 more. Barber has been a great player but his quality of play has been slipping.

Prediction: The problem with predicting this game is what Giants team will show up? But with the veteran presence in the locker room I think they will. My predicted score is Giants 20 Bucs 14.

Titans vs Chargers: The Titans have exceeded expectations this season as many experts didn't think they could make the next step. Vince Young hasn't turned into a elite quarterback yet as he only threw for 9 touchdowns. The 17 interceptions won't help either. Young might not play as he has a quad injury but Kerry Collins might be the better option as he has more big game experience. The running game has improved as LenDale White has proved that he can carry the load with over 1100 yards and 7 touchdowns. Justin Gage has emerged as one of Young's favorite targets and has 750 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season. The team is in trouble with both Roydell Williams and Bo Scaife missing the rest of the playoffs. David Thornton leads the team with 122 tackles while Keith Bulluck had 88 tackles along with 5 interceptions and provides great veteran leadership. Kyle Vanden Bosh has had a Pro Bowl campaign as he has 12 sacks. Albert Haynesworth is also a force in the middle and when he doesn't play teams run all over the Titans
