Most years running backs are the highest scoring players in all of fantasy football. That is why it is important to pick up a top running back early in your draft as most of them will be gone by the 3rd round. These players are all worth targeting in your draft but you better do it early, because all of them will be off the board by the middle of the second round.


1. LaDainian Tomlinson Chargers: If you have the first pick, there is no reason to think about picking anybody else other then LT. Tomlinson is a lock to have at least 15 touchdowns and is durable as he has only missed one game in his career. Plus, he has around 55 receptions a year so you will get receiving yards. If healthy, there is no reason to believe that Tomlinson will have a bad year so expect around 1700 total yards and 18 touchdowns.


2. Brian Westbrook Eagles: Many people would select Adrian Peterson with the number two pick, but Westbrook is consistent and you don't have to worry about injuries. Westbrook last year only had 7 rushing touchdowns, but he more than made up for that by catching 90 passes for 771 yards. Plus, unlike Tomlinson, Westbrook will be playing meaningful games in week 16 and 17 as by then the Chargers probably would have locked up the division. That's important because in most leagues, that is when the playoffs are and you aren't going to win if your best player is sitting on the bench while his backup gets the carries. Expect around 1800 total yards and 12 touchdowns.

3. Adrian Peterson Vikings: If not for durability issues, Peterson possibly could have been number one on the list. Peterson had a great rookie season with 1341 yards and 12 touchdowns. But lots of those numbers came from two big games. If you take away his stats from those games, Peterson had 821 yards and 6 touchdowns on the year. That isn't top fantasy back material. Plus, when Peterson's team needed him the most during a playoff push, he had 144 yards in his last 4 games. Those aren't the numbers you need to win in the playoffs. But Peterson has great potential and if he stays healthy and continues his success, he could be number one on the list next year. Expect around 1600 total yards and 10 touchdowns.

4. Joseph Addai Colts: Addai is a great fantasy back as he gets lots of touchdown opportunities from playing in a high powered offense. He showed that last year by getting 12 touchdowns in 15 games. The touchdowns alone make him a valuable fantasy back but when you add in 1072 rushing yards and 40 receptions, you have a top 5 fantasy back. Expect around 1600 total yards and 12 touchdowns.

5. Steven Jackson Rams: With a bad offensive line and injuries, Jackson was considered one of the biggest fantasy disappointments last year. But he still ended up with 1000 rushing yards. This year, the Rams have a new offensive coordinator in Al Saunders who was with the Chiefs when Preist Holmes was the talk of the fantasy football world. Now with Jackson in the same role, he could be in for a huge year. Expect around 1900 total yards and 10 touchdowns.

6. Frank Gore 49ers: When Mike Martz joins teams, most running backs lose touches. But that may not be the case for Gore. Gore has excellent hands and with the lack of receivers the 49ers have, could have around 80 catches. His rushing totals may go down but Gore could have an even better fantasy season then he did a few years ago. Expect around 1900 total yards and 9 touchdowns.

7. Marshawn Lynch Bills: Lynch had a great rookie season last year and if not for Peterson, would have won offensive rookie of the year. But now, Lynch is the every-down back for the Bills and should have an even better year. He only had 18 catches last year, but he should have around 35 this year. Plus fantasy owners have to love the fact he plays the Jets and Dolphins a combined 4 times this year. There is no reason not think that Lynch could have a huge year. Expect around 1600 total yards and 9 touchdowns.

8. Clinton Portis Redskins: Portis last year ended up having a great season last year as he had 1262 yards and 47 catches. There is no reason that he can't do it again. Portis may not get the yards like he did in Denver, but he has proved overtime that he is one of the best fantasy backs. In a new offense, this could be a off year fantasy wise for Portis. But you shouldn't worry about that as you will still get great numbers. Expect around 1700 total yards and 8 touchdowns.

9. Marion Barber Cowboys: For the past few years, Barber has been one of the most valuable backs in all of fantasy football as he is a touchdown machine. But now that Julius Jones is gone, he is the starter for the Cowboys. But not so fast, the Cowboys will still use a two back system as they drafted Felix Jones in the first round of this year's draft. Barber should get more yards but don't expect an increase in touchdowns. Either way, Barber is a top fantasy back and should be picked up late in the first round. But the Cowboys hype machine could force an owner to take him in the top 8 picks. Expect around 1400 yards and 13 touchdowns.

10. Ryan Grant Packers: With Aaron Rodgers now taking over for Brett Favre, Grant is the focal point of the offense. At times he showed what he is fully capable of as almost had 1000 yards while starting only half of the year. But until Rodgers proves himself, it could be tough running for Grant as he will have to face 8 defenders in the box on many occasions. If you draft him, don't be worried about a slow start. You will be rewarded by the end of the season. Expect around 1500 total yards and 8 touchdowns.

Last year, receivers were some of the biggest difference makers in fantasy football as the passing game around the league was in full effect. They had different impacts in many ways though as some leagues just count yards and touchdowns, while others count receptions as well. Here are my top ten fantasy football receivers this year and if you want one of them, you better grab them early in your draft because they will be gone fast.


1. Randy Moss Patriots: When motivated, everyone knows that Moss is going to have a big year. But when he has a great quarterback as well, the sky's the limit. Tom Brady and Moss proved that last year as they hooked up for 23 touchdowns. There is no doubt that he can put up these kind of numbers again. Expect around 1400 yards and 18 touchdowns.


2. Terrell Owens Cowboys: Owens may lead the league in drops in the last two years, but he always puts up great fantasy numbers. With Tony Romo gaining another year to learn Jason Garrett's offense, expect more of the same from T.O. which would be 1300 yards and 15 touchdowns.


3. Reggie Wayne Colts: Wayne is becoming the number one receiver for the Colts but if Marvin Harrison comes back healthy, he won't put up the same numbers. The only problem with Wayne is that there are too many weapons in Indianapolis to score tons of touchdowns. But either way, Wayne is a great number one option and should be picked in between the 2nd and 3rd round. Expect around 1300 yards and 8 touchdowns.


4. Andre Johnson Texans: Last year Johnson didn't really get to develop a connection with Matt Schaub as they were both hurt. But when they both played, Johnson was among the elite receivers in fantasy football. In 4 games with Schaub, Johnson had 23 catches 419 yards and 4 touchdowns. If they both stay healthy for a full season, Johnson could become the best receiver in fantasy football. The only problem is, that's a big if. Johnson's best value though is in reception leagues considering he averaged almost 7 catches a game last year. Expect around 1250 yards and 10 touchdowns.


5. Braylon Edwards Browns: Edwards last year showed why people take chances on receivers entering their third year in fantasy drafts. Edwards last year was at best a late round pick, but is now one of the best receivers in all of fantasy football. He has a great connection with Derek Anderson but with all the weapons on offense, Edwards may not score as many touchdowns, but he will still put up huge numbers. Expect around 1200 yards and 10 touchdowns.

6. T.J. Houshmandzadeh Bengals: While many fantasy players try and get Chad Johnson in the draft, this is the Bengals receiver you want on your team. Housh last year had 112 catches along with 12 touchdowns. So while Johnson is getting all the attention, Houshmandzadeh is putting up great fantasy numbers. Expect around 1100 yards and 10 touchdowns.

7. Larry Fitzgerald Cardinals: On pure talent, Fitzgerald isn't this low on the list. But when he has the aging Kurt Warner and the inconsistent Matt Leinart throwing to him that could be a problem. Fitz somehow managed to put up great fantasy stats last year with 1409 yards and 10 touchdowns. But with another year under Ken Whisenhunt who wants to establish the run, Fitzgerald probably won't put up those numbers again. Expect around 1300 yards and 8 touchdowns.

8. Steve Smith Panthers: Through the first three weeks of the season, Smith was having a great fantasy year with 281 yards and 4 touchdowns. But then, Jake Delhomme got hurt and Smith's stats took a huge hit as he only had 3 touchdowns the rest of the year. Delhomme is now returning from Tommy John surgery so Smith's stats should improve but even if Delhomme isn't at full health, Smith to get lots of receptions. Expect around 1200 yards and 8 touchdowns.


9. Marques Colston Saints: Colston was a fantasy star his rookie year but most people didn't notice he had even better numbers his second year in the league. Colston had 28 more catches and 3 more touchdowns which is impressive considering he doesn't have a real threat lining up across him. He should put up similar numbers this year, but don't expect another 20 catch improvement. Expect around 1150 yards and 9 touchdowns.


10. Brandon Marshall Broncos: Marshall has gotten lots of headlines for what happens off the field but when on it, he's an absolute monster. Marshall last year caught over 100 passes and led the league in passes thrown his way. Those stats show that he has excellent chemistry with Jay Cutler and overtime that will only improve. Expect around 1100 yards and 8 touchdowns.

One of the keys to having a successful offense in the NFL is balance. With balance, opposing defenses won't be able to put 8 in the box to stop the run or run nickel or dime defenses to stop the pass. Continuing my theme of lists, is my top ten offensive trios. A trio consists of a quarterback, running back, receiver or tight end. Considering how the Celtics just won a NBA Championship with their "Big Three" I thought it would be fitting to put together a list of the top ten offensive trios in the league.

1. Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Terrell Owens Cowboys: Out of all the trios in the league, this one is the most balanced. Romo and Owens both rank among the top five players at their position and Barber is among the ten best running backs. This trio could be even more effective this year as Romo now has a full year of Jason Garrett's offense under his belt and Barber is now the feature back. This team will be fun to watch during the course of the season but the playoffs is another story.


2. Peyton Manning, Joseph Addai, Reggie Wayne Colts: The Colts just barely missed the top spot on the list. Manning is arguably the best quarterback in the game and Wayne is one of the best receivers in the league. But Addai and Barber are about even so it comes down to Owens against Wayne. Owens is the better bet now, but considering Wayne keeps improving, the Colts could top the list next year.

3. Tom Brady, Laurence Maroney, Randy Moss Patriots: Brady and Moss could both possibly be the best player at their respective positions. The only problem is the Patriots were passing so much, we didn't see Maroney's full potential. He showed glimpses during the Patriots Super Bowl run, but if he improves this year, the Patriots could be even higher on next years list.


4. Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Gates Chargers: When looking at this trio, you would think they would be ranked much higher. But the top three trios have something the Chargers don't, that's a top 5 quarterback. Rivers has played solid the last few years, but he isn't top 5 caliber yet. As of now, Rivers is a borderline top 10 guy. But the other guys that make up the trio are something special. Tomlinson is a once a decade back who can do it all while Gates has redefined the tight end position. If Rivers improves, this trio has the potential to be in the top 3 next year.


5. Derek Anderson, Jamal Lewis, Braylon Edwards Browns: This could be the most underrated trio in the league. Anderson had a great season last year and showed he could be one of the top quarterbacks in the league for years to come. Lewis went under the radar last year and was fifth in the league in rushing with 1304 yards. Edwards also had a huge year and is developing into one of the premier receivers in the league. Plus with the other weapons on offense, this trio could be even better this year.


6. Eli Manning, Brandon Jacobs, Plaxico Burress Giants: It seems hard to believe, but this is the trio that won the Super Bowl last year. Manning has improved over the last few years and is now among the elite quarterbacks in the league. Burress is among the top receivers in the league and had a career year last year catching 12 touchdown passes. Jacobs wasn't fully healthy last year but still managed to average over 5 yards a carry. This isn't the flashiest trios in the group, but they are all productive and most importantly, they win.


7. Marc Bulger, Steven Jackson, Torry Holt Rams: This trio had injury problems last year, but when healthy, they are among the best in the league. Bulger had trouble staying healthy last year as he had a weak offensive line. But when healthy, he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Jackson had injury problems as well, but is among the top 10 backs in the league. Holt though stayed healthy and had another season with 90 plus catches and 1100 yards showing why he is one of the best receivers this decade. This trio can go nowhere but up if the offensive line improves.


8. Aaron Rodgers, Ryan Grant, Greg Jennings Packers: If Brett Favre returned, this trio would be much higher on the list. But since we haven't seen much of Rodgers, the number 8 spot isn't a bad start. Grant really impressed late in the season last year and should be even more effective this year as he will start from the start. Jennings showed why he is developing into one of the best young receivers in the league as he had 12 touchdowns last year on only 53 catches. This trio is very young, so they can only move up on the list.


9. Ben Roethlisberger, Willie Parker, Santonio Holmes Steelers: With this trio, the Steelers have lots of youth and speed. Parker was having another great season until it got cut short by a broken leg. He should be effective again this year as he now has Rashard Mendenhall to take away some of the load. Holmes is developing into the number one receiver for the Steelers and is the teams deep threat averaging 18 yards a catch last year. Roethlisberger at 26, is the quarterback of the present and the future and had a career year last year with 32 touchdowns. This trio will have a big part in if the Steelers make the playoffs in the loaded AFC.


10. David Garrard, Fred Taylor, Reggie Williams Jaguars: Garrard was one of the feel good stories of the NFL last season as he threw 18 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions in his first year as a starter. Taylor is one of the league's most underrated backs as he had 1,202 yards last year. Plus, the Jaguars have Maurice Jones-Drew who is fully capable of starting if Taylor gets hurt. The Jaguars don't have a clear number one receiver yet but Williams had 10 touchdowns last season and is starting to shed the bust label he earned from critics early on in his career. This may not be the strongest trio, but if the Jaguars find a number one receiver who could possibly be Jerry Porter who they signed in free agency, the Jaguars could be higher on the list.

RIP "Pacman" Jones

Unfortunately it has been reported by Adam Schefter that Adam "Pacman" Jones doesn't want to be known as Pacman any more and will publicly request to the media later this week to just be known as Adam Jones. It is a smart move on his part as it will distance himself from his troubled past. But for all of his fans, it's time to look back and reflect on what was. Before he was suspended by the league last year, Jones was becoming one of the better young corners in the league. During his two career seasons as "Pacman" he recorded 115 tackles, 4 interceptions and 5 touchdowns. So in honor of the occasion, I thought it would be fitting to put together my top ten all time "Pacman" Jones moments.


1. "Making it Rain": To the majority of NFL fans, this is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about him so it's only fitting to put as number one on the list.

2. Draft Day: When Pacman got drafted, they briefly showed him and the party going on. Let's just say that ESPN never went back to see it again.

3. Interception return for a touchdown against the Jaguars: This was Pacman's first interception return for a touchdown. Plays like this show why he could be a special player.

4. Sliding down the goalpost: This was Pacman's signature end zone dance which he did after every touchdown. As far as end zone celebrations go, this is one of my personal favorites.

5. The Posterboyz: When Pacman signed a deal to start rapping, this was the duo he was half of. The first single was called "Let it Shine" where they surprisingly talk about fast cars, jewelry and excessive amounts of money. The song actually isn't that bad and until Pacman says his name, you can't tell that it's him rapping.

6. TNA: Pacman didn't even really have a real wrestling match on TNA, but the Pacman shirt he wore for his introduction made it all worth while.

7. Punt Return for a touchdown against the Eagles: Pacman on this play showed why he is one of the best return men in the league as he showed everything you would want in a punt returner. He showed great speed and cut back ability on the 90 yard return.

8. Feeding the Children: Most people didn't notice but Pacman actually took the time during is suspension to help feed the needy. It was the kindest moment in Pacman history.

9. Punt return for a touchdown against the Texans: This was another great return for Pacman as he ran backwards and still got the touchdown. When playing, he is a pro bowl caliber return man.

10. The mug shots: Over the course of time, Pacman has had his fair share of mugshots. They are all memorable but in my mind the best one is after his triple shooting incident.


So we have reached the end of Pacman in the NFL but as Adam, he is sure to add many more memorable moments to the list. You will be missed Pacman.

Fbkid's top ten shocking predictions for the NFL season

During the course of the NFL season, many unexpected things happen; from players breaking out, to teams who were Super Bowl favorites not making the playoffs So I thought it would be fitting if I continue my lists with my top ten shocking predictions of the 2008 NFL season.

1. Troy Smith will be the starting quarterback for the Ravens week one: Many people would expect Kyle Boller or possibly Joe Flacco to be starting for the Ravens, but they may have forgotten about Smith. The former Heisman trophy winner last year looked good in limited playing time and so far the team is really impressed with what they have seen in mini camp. Flacco could be the long term answer for the Ravens, but don't be surprised if Smith starts for the next year or two.

2. The Cowboys won't be representing the NFC in the Super Bowl: For the last two years, many people have been saying that the Cowboys are the team to beat in the NFC. But come playoff time, they don't beat anyone. This team has loads of talent but for this team to succeed, ego's can't be colliding in the locker room and the odds of that happening aren't very good.

3. The Pittsburgh Steelers won't make the playoffs: Many people think the Steelers are going to win the AFC North again but if you look inside the numbers, the odds aren't very good. The Steelers have the highest strength of schedule in the league and their offensive line had lots of issues last year and the loss of Alan Faneca won't help. Looking at that, the Browns are the best bet to win this division.

4. The Buffalo Bills will make the playoffs: The Bills had a solid year last year at 7-9 but this year, they can be even better. They now have a clear choice at quarterback in Trent Edwards as well as an every down back in Marshawn Lynch. The receiving corps also improved as the team drafted 6'6 James Hardy in the second round. The defense is also improving as Paul Posluszny will be healthy and Leodis McKelvin should improve the secondary and the return game. Plus they don't have the strongest division. Other than the Patriots, they play the Dolphins and Jets a combined 4 times. If they play .500 football the rest of the year, the Bills would have a 10-6 record which should be good for a wildcard birth in the AFC.

5. Jonathan Stewart will win offensive rookie of the year: Most people say that Darren McFadden will be the clear choice for rookie of the year honors. But Lane Kiffin already came out and said that he will be using him in a Reggie Bush type role. Stewart is most likely going to be the feature back in Carolina as DeAngelo Williams hasn't proved he's able to carry the ball 20 times a game. Stewart has fresh legs as he wasn't used that much in college so he should see lots of carries this season and could bring a ground game the Panthers haven't had in a while. Speaking of the Panthers...

6. The Carolina Panthers will make the playoffs: The NFC South is a weird division. Every single year, a different team wins it. This year could be the Panthers turn. Jake Delhomme was having a great season until it got cut short by Tommy John Surgery. If his great play carries over, the Panthers are in good shape. Plus they have one of the best receivers in the league in Steve Smith for Delhomme to throw to. If Julius Peppers and the rest of the defense improves, this team could be dangerous in the NFC.

7. The Oakland Raiders will be a playoff spoiler come December: This offseason, the Raiders did a very good job of getting talent through free agency and the draft. JaMarcus Russell now has a full year of the offense under his belt and the defense is much improved with the additions of DeAngelo Hall and Gibril Wilson. The Raiders may not start off that great as they have lots of new players adjusting, but by the end of the year, they can stop some teams from making the playoffs and possibly be a 7 or 8 win team.

8. Keith Rivers will win defensive rookie of the year: Like Patrick Willis last year, Rivers has the chance to step in right away and be the leader of a defense. The Bengals have gotten some young defensive talent in the draft the last couple of years and now with the addition of Rivers, they are headed in the right direction.

9. Drew Stanton will be the starting quarterback for the Lions by the end of the year: If Stanton didn't have a season ending knee injury in preseason last year, there was a good chance he could have been starting as a rookie. But Jon Kitna is now 35 and isn't the long term answer. The only problem with Stanton is Mike Martz was spending the preseason last year changing Stanton's mechanics. Now he's gone and he will now have two different offensive coordinators in two years. But if the Lions are going to struggle, there isn't a better time to start the Stanton to Calvin Johnson connection.

10. Matt Forte will run for 1,000 yards as a rookie: With the release of Cedric Benson, the Bears think they have found the bruising back they were looking for in Forte. Forte should be the feature back for the Bears and with the weak passing game, will be the focal point of opposing defenses. His running style is perfect for the cold games in December.

Cornerback is one of the most important positions in all of football. If you have bad corners, it will change the total outcome of the game as teams will pass on you early and often. If you have good corners, nobody will pass on you and if you can stop the run, you are in great shape to win. Many teams with good corners are also among the leagues elite. Here is my list of who I think are the top ten cornerback tandems in the league.


1. Asante Samuel, Lito Sheppard Eagles: Many considered Samuel one of the top free agents this year. When the Eagles signed him to pair up with Sheppard, offensive coordinators in the NFC cringed. Both Samuel and Sheppard are among the elite corners in the game and have proven track records. Plus Sheldon Brown in the nickel, is not too shabby himself and would be a starter for most teams in the league.

2. Al Harris, Charles Woodson Packers: Harris and Woodson may be older then most of the corners on the list, but that doesn't mean that they still can't play. Harris got more national attention, but Woodson had the better season as he had 4 and 9 pass deflections. Harris excels in the bump and run which is why he struggled against a much taller receiver in Plaxico Burress. This tandem though should fair well again this season in a division with a weak passing game.

3. Antonio Cromartie, Quentin Jammer Chargers: When talking about the best corners in the league, Cromartie is one of the first ones mentioned. Last year he led the league with 10 interceptions but a good part of that was because Jammer was so good. Jammer last year shut down most of the receivers that came his way and that was a main reason why he only had one interception. With Cromartie still developing and Jammer in his prime, the Chargers are a scary duo.

4. Champ Bailey, Dre' Bly Broncos: Heading into last season, this tandem would have been on top of everybody's list. Many feel that Bailey is the best corner in the league and Bly is among the top 15. But last year Bailey had an average year and Bly would've had a hard time covering a baby with a blanket. Bailey went on to have 84 tackles and 3 interceptions but a mediocre season for Bailey is a career best for pretty much anyone else.

5. Terence Newman, Pacman Jones Cowboys: Newman actually had a very good year last year as he had 50 tackles and 4 interceptions. Those numbers are why the Cowboys gave him the contract they did. Jones may not have played a down in the league for a year, but he was becoming an elite corner in the league before his suspension. If his progress continues, Dallas could have a very good secondary but if he fails, they could always use first round draft pick Mike Jenkins. The Cowboys could have a very good secondary this year, now they just have to do something about Roy Williams.

6.Nnadmi Asomugha, DeAngelo Hall Raiders: This duo could be at the very top of this list next year is everything goes as planned in Oakland. Many think that Hall is the better corner, but it is acutally Asomugha as many see him as a top 5 corner in the league. Hall has the potential to be great, but as of now he gambles on to many plays and that doesn't work out most of the time. With this duo and Michael Huff and Gibril Wilson at safety, the Raiders could have one of the best young secondaries in the league.

7. Marcus Trufant, Kelly Jennings Seahawks: Trufant has been one of the best corners in the league ever since he was drafted in 2003. He continued his success with a career best 7 interceptions last year. Jennings is a young corner who improved throughout the course of the season as he had 12 pass deflections. With Trufant in his prime and Jennings improving, this tandem could be even higher next year.

8. Ken Lucas, Chris Gamble Panthers: This duo was much higher around year ago, but both players have started slipping a little. Lucas had a solid season with 13 pass deflections and 2 interceptions. While Gamble ended the year with 6 pass deflections and 1 interception. The Panthers also have young defensive back Richard Marshall who when he played, was the best out of all of them, don't be surprised if he takes a starting spot this year.


9. Ronde Barber, Phillip Buchanon Bucs: It's hard to believe but Ronde Barber is still playing at a high level. Last year Barber had 14 pass deflections with 2 interceptions. Buchanon had lots of balls thrown his way due to Barber's play but held his own with 10 pass deflections and 3 interceptions. With first round pick Aqib Talib developing and two young stars in Tanard Jackson and Jermaine Phillips at safety, the Bucs could have one of the best secondaries in the league in a few years.


10. Charles Tillman, Nathan Vasher Bears: If not for injuries, this tandem would be much higher. Tillman played very well last season as he had 13 pass deflections and 3 interceptions. While Vasher only played 4 games this season and had 1 interception. Look for this duo if healthy, to be much higher on the list next year.

The last few seasons, the two back system has become a very popular trend in the NFL. Teams are noticing that the two back system keeps both backs fresh and avoids them from taking a pounding. Most two back systems have a combination of power and speed. Almost all of the teams on this list have that. So without further explanation, here is my list of the top ten running back tandems in the NFL.


1. Fred Taylor, Maurice Jones-Drew Jaguars: Many people wouldn't agree with this but both Taylor and Jones-Drew are among the top 20 backs in the league. Taylor hasn't really gotten much national attention but is one of the most consistent backs in the league. Jones-Drew is a touchdown machine as he has 22 career rushing touchdowns in two years. The two back system has also helped both of them as well as Jones-Drew is learning from one of the best backs in the game while Taylor has added at least 2 years onto his career.


2. Adrian Peterson, Chester Taylor Vikings: Many people would have put this tandem at number one on the list. But to me their is more of a drop off from Peterson to Taylor then with the Jaguars tandem. Peterson had an excellent rookie season and if he keeps it up will be one of the best backs in the league for a long time. Taylor also had a solid season with 844 yards and 7 touchdowns. It seems hard to believe but this tandem can be even more effective when the Vikings develop a passing game.


3. LaDainian Tomlinson, Darren Sproles Chargers: It's hard to beat a tandem with the best back in the league and a shifty scat back who can score everytime he touches the ball. They may have lost Michael Turner in the offseason, but that won't stop Tomlinson from having a great year as he is always good for at least 14 touchdowns. Sproles also played very well last year and showed he is a good receiver out of the backfield.


4. Marion Barber, Felix Jones Cowboys: This is the perfect example of a thunder and lightning tandem. Barber is one the best brusing backs in the game as he had 10 rushing touchdowns last year. While Jones has great speed and will run all over defenses after Barber has worn them down. This tandem could be much higher next year.


5. Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts Redskins: Portis had another great season last year as he had 1262 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has established himself as one of the best backs in the game. While Betts even though he didn't play that well last season, he is one of the better backups in the league and has the potential to start for some teams.


6. Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw Giants: Considering Jacobs missed 5 games, he had a very good season last year as he averaged 5 yards a carry and had over 1000 yards. The only problem was with his size he should score more then 4 touchdowns. Bradshaw was a great find for the Giants late in the draft last year as he was very elusive and had a big part in the offense during the playoffs.


7. Justin Fargas, Darren McFadden Raiders: This group has the potential to be in the top 4 in this list next year. Fargas had a very good season last year as he had over 1000 yards in 14 games. While McFadden was too good for the Raiders to pass up with the 4th pick. This tandem will really shine once JaMarcus Russell develops but even if the passing game struggles, this duo will be fun to watch.

8. Michael Turner, Jerious Norwood Falcons: This group compliments each other very well as Turner is more of a bruiser while Norwood is among the fastest backs in the league. Both of these guys also have fresh legs as neither of them started last year. Until Matt Ryan develops, these two will be the majority of the Falcons offense.

9. Willis McGahee, Ray Rice Ravens: McGahee had a solid first year in Baltimore with over 1200 yards and 7 touchdowns. Rice was drafted in the second round and due to the fact he is very durable,has the ability to give the Ravens 12-15 carries in his first season. Both of these guys will benefit from having Cam Cameron as offensive coordinator as he loves to utilize his running backs.

10.Willie Parker, Rashard Mendenhall Steelers: This group could become one of the top tandems in the league if Parker stays healthy and if Mendenhall lives up to the billing of a first round pick. Mendenhall has the ability to become a back who can handle 25 carries a game while Parker is a threat to score everytime he touches the ball. Mike Tomlin will love coming up with ways to get both of these guys on the field at once.

Fbkid's top ten wide receiver tandems

Sometimes having one very good receiver can change the total outcome of the game. But when teams have two good receivers who can prevent the defense to going to double coverage, the passing game could be great. All of the teams mentioned on this list have that. So without further explanation, here is my list of the top ten receiver tandems in the NFL.


1.Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin Cardinals: Both Fitzgerald and Boldin are among the elite receivers in the NFL. Fitzgerald is more of the redzone threat and gets more media attention but Boldin is the better possession receiver and is great at yards after the catch. If Matt Leinart develops, the Cardinals have the makings of a great offense for years.

2.Chad Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh Bengals: While Johnson is the one that gets all of the media attention, Houshmandzadeh has been the more productive receiver the last few years. But when Johnson focuses on the game and isn't worrying about his contract, he is one of the five best receivers in the league.

3.Randy Moss, Wes Welker Patriots: Many would think this tandem would be on top of the list but a lot of it had to do with who was at quarterback. If they didn't have Tom Brady throwing them the ball, their stats wouldn't be as good. Moss is one of the top five receivers in the league but everyone around the league expects him to have seasons like that when he is motivated. Welker is a very good slot receiver but he is Mike Furrey on a better team. Both are great possession receivers but due to the team around them, only one gets their due.


4.Terrell Owens, Patrick Crayton Cowboys: Owens even at 34, is still producing like an all pro receiver as he is a touchdown machine and improved on his drops. Crayton had a career year last season and became a solid number two option. But Crayton doesn't get much attention from opposing defenses due to Owens and Jason Witten. Crayton is a solid player but the Cowboys could get an upgrade to line opposite Owens.


5.Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne Colts: Wayne had an excellent year and is turning into one of the best receivers in the league. If Harrison was healthy all of last season this tandem would be higher. But Harrison at 35 is nearing the end of his career. In the next year or two it will be Anthony Gonzalez occupying the spot opposite Wayne.


6.Donald Driver, Greg Jennings Packers: This tandem may not be as productive this year as they are both adjusting to Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. But either way they are both among the best receivers in the league. Jennings showed glimpses in his rookie season but fully broke out last year with 12 touchdowns last year. Driver remains one of the best possession receivers in the league. Plus with James Jones entering his second year, Rodgers won't have a lack of options in Green Bay.

7.Braylon Edwards, Donte Stallworth Browns: Edwards last year broke out in his third year and showed why he is becoming one of the leagues best receivers. Stallworth is a great compliment as he is a great deep threat for Derek Anderson. Throw in Kellen Winslow and they have one of the most explosive offenses in the league.

8.Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson Lions: Both Williams and Johnson were productive last season but they have the potential to be much higher on the list. Williams is a pro bowl caliber receiver but the only problem is if he has the dedication to get to that level. Johnson had a nagging back injury last season though and has the potential to be an elite receiver in the league.

9.Torry Holt, Drew Bennett Rams: Even though it was a rough year for the Rams, Holt was always consistent. As always he put up another campaign with 90 plus catches, 1100 yards and 7 touchdowns. Bennett is a great redzone target but had limited time last year. But with Isaac Bruce gone, that will change. Bennett only showed glimpses of his potential during his incredible stretch in 2004 and when healthy he could become a ten touchdown calibar player. Plus with speedster Donnie Avery drafted in the second round, things are starting to shape up for the Rams.

10. Steve Smith, D.J. Hackett Panthers: Smith has been one of the most productive receivers in the NFL and it is even more incredible considering his size. While most players on the list are six feet or taller, Smith is 5'9 and is winning jump balls against elite corners in the league. Hackett isn't bad either as he has been productive player when he isn't hurt. If Jake Delhomme can recover from Tommy John Surgery, Smith and Hackett will show what they are fully capable of.

Fbkid's fantasy football sleepers

One of the things that is very key to succeeding in a fantasy football league is finding a good sleeper. Last year many players such as Derek Anderson and Ryan Grant emerged and due to people picking them up on the waiver wire they made the playoffs. Here is my list of sleepers and if you pick one of these guys by the end of the year you will be envied by the rest of your league.


JaMarcus Russell QB Raiders: Russell didn't really start playing until late in his rookie season but when he did he showed some glimpses of why he was the number one pick. Now Russell has a full year of learning the offense under his belt and has gotten new receivers who should help in Javon Walker and Drew Carter. Plus with running backs such as Darren McFadden and Justin Fargas, Russell won't have to worry about winning games by himself and could end up having a decent year. Russell is worth drafting in the later rounds and could become a solid number two quarterback by the end of the year. Expect around 2800 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Matt Forte RB Bears:Prior to this post when I did my rookie fantasy football rankings I had Forte very high on the list even with Cedric Benson in the picture. Now with him gone,Forte will most likely be the starter headed into week one. Forte is a good pick in the middle rounds and should be used as a number three back until he shows what he is capable of. Expect around 1000 total yards and 7 touchdowns.



Kevin Smith RB Lions: Smith is in a similar situation as Forte as both will most likely be starting right away as rookies. Tatum Bell hasn't done much in Detroit so far and Smith comes in off one of the best seasons for a college football running back ever. He is worth drafting as a number three back in the middle rounds and could be a very good bye week replacement. Expect around 1100 yards and 8 touchdowns.



Steve Slaton RB Texans: Since they have been a franchise the Texans have never had a back who could take it the distance everytime he touches the ball. They may have found that guy in Slaton. With both Ahman Green and Chris Brown being injury prone, Slaton has a very good chance of getting lots of carries. He should probably go undrafted in fantasy leagues but is worth watching in the preseason. Expect around 900 total yards and 5 touchdowns.



Ryan Torain RB Broncos: The Broncos always produce 1000 yard backs and Torain should continue the trend. Torain would have gone much higher in the draft if he didn't have season ending foot injury. The Broncos got a steal with him and along with Selvin Young should form a 1-2 punch that will make fantasy owners happy. Expect around 800 total yards and 6 touchdowns.



Lorenzo Booker RB Eagles: Even before he got traded on draft day, Booker was going to have a spot on this list as he played very well the last few games. But now with the Eagles Booker could get the chance to become a fantasy star. If Brian Westbrook gets hurt, Booker is now filling the role of a top 3 fantasy back and has a very similar skill set. He is worth drafting late as an insurance if you draft Westbrook.


Sidney Rice WR Vikings: While Adrian Peterson was having a fantasic rookie season many people didn't notice another Vikings rookie was showing lots of potential in the time he played. That player was Rice. He didn't have a great season but he improve over the course of the year and had four touchdowns. He has great size and should be a great target in the redzone which fantasy owners will love. Rice should be picked later on in fantasy drafts but could have a huge impact on your team by the end of the year. Expect around 800 yards and 8 touchdowns.



Anthony Gonzalez WR Colts: Gonzalez also came on later in the year and with concerns about Marvin Harrison's health he could get even more involved in the offense. He is worth taking in the later rounds and is a great option as a number four receiver but could become a solid three. Expect around 700 yards and 6 touchdowns.


Chad Jackson WR Patriots: With Donte Stallworth leaving for Cleveland, a competition for the number three receiver will begin in New England. Jackson has a very good chance of winning it though as he is going into his third year with the team. The third year is also when most receivers breakout so look for Jackson to have a good year in the Patriots high powered offense. Expect around 600 yards and 5 touchdowns.


Tony Scheffler TE Broncos: With Javon Walker gone,more passes will be going around the redzone in Denver. Scheffler will be on the receiving end on many of those. Scheffler has formed a good connection with Jay Cutler and if he recovers from his broken foot could become a number one fantasy tight end.Expect around 700 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Greg Olsen TE Bears: The Bears are limited now at receiver with Mushin Muhammed and Bernard Berrian leaving this offseason. That is where Olsen comes into play. He had high expectations coming into last season but didn't get to show all of his talents. He is worth drafting in the middle rounds as a backup tight end but could become a number one option through the course of the season.Expect around 600 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Fbkid's preseason power rankings

Training camp is almost here so what better time to do my first power rankings of the season. Many teams have improved through the draft while others through free agency. The list should be interesting and my rankings will next be updated after the preseason games.


1.New York Giants: Considering they are the defending Super Bowl champs, until they lose they are my number one team.

2.New England Patriots: All of the offensive fire power returns but the corners are an issue.

3.Indianapolis Colts: Bob Sanders is the leader of the defense and when he and Dwight Freeney get healthy, the Colts can be a scary team.

4.San Diego Chargers: If not for the injuries, they might have been playing for the Super Bowl last February.

5.Dallas Cowboys: On paper this team looks great but will Tony Romo win a playoff game?

6.Jacksonville Jaguars: The media is starting to notice the Jaguars as many people are calling them contenders in the AFC. It all depends on David Garrard's play though.

7.Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks are one of the most consistent teams in the league and should be among the elite in the NFC again.

8.Pittsburgh Steelers: Rashard Mendenhall should help take the load off of Willie Parker but the offensive line is a big concern.

9.Cleveland Browns: We know they can score but with lack of depth at corner will the additions of Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams on the defensive line get them to the playoffs?

10.Green Bay Packers: This team could either go 12-4 or 4-12. We haven't seen much of Aaron Rodgers yet to see if he can lead the Packers back to the playoffs.

11.Minnesota Vikings: Once Tarvaris Jackson or John David Booty develop, this is the team to beat in the NFC.

12.New Orleans Saints: The defense has improved but corner is still a major issue. If the defense gets going the Saints will be marching far into the playoffs.

13.Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles got going late in the season but if Donovan McNabb stays healthy they are in good shape.

14.Houston Texans: If Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson stay healthy, this team is the darkhorse in the AFC.

15.Buffalo Bills: If Trent Edwards improves on his play from last year, they are in very good shape to do some damage. The return of Paul Posluzny will be huge as well.

16.Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Bucs lack depth at running back but in a weak division have a shot at making the playoffs again.

17.Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals are a year or two away from being a legitimate contender in the NFC. The offensive line is still an issue though.

18.Carolina Panthers: If Jake Delhomme is healthy, this team has a good chance of pushing for a wild card spot.

19.Denver Broncos: If Jay Cutler turns into the elite quarterback many think he is, this team could push for a wild card spot.

20.Washington Redskins: This team has lots of question marks with a new coach in Jim Zorn. The only sure thing is that Clinton Portis will have a big year.

21.Tennessee Titans: The Titans made the playoffs last year because of the defense not Vince Young. If the Titans go out and get a big play receiver for Young to throw to, then they could take the next step. Until then the offense will go as far as LenDale White and Chris Johnson will take them.

22.Baltimore Ravens: Troy Smith is looking very impressive in mini camp and should be the guy starting in week one. Expect a big year from Willis McGahee as Cam Cameron loves utilizing his running backs.

23.New York Jets: They spent lots of money this offseason but do they have a quarterback yet?

24.Cincinnati Bengals: The Bengals still have an explosive offense but Rudi Johnson is starting to decline. Keith Rivers will be stud at linebacker and will be a force for years to come.

25.Oakland Raiders: The Raiders improved their offense this offseason and with the defense they have in place,this team could be dangerous by the end of the season.

26.Chicago Bears: Can you believe this is the team that won the NFC two years ago? Until they improve at quarterback the Bears should be around this spot for a while.

27.Detroit Lions: The Lions should actually have a running game now with Mike Martz gone. Look for Kevin Smith to be one of the frontrunners for rookie of the year honors.

28.St.Louis Rams: The defense is getting better but the offensive line hasn't been able to protect Marc Bulger. If Bulger stays healthy the Rams could really improve from last year.

29.Atlanta Falcons: Chris Redman played well in relief last year but is only the answer until Matt Ryan is ready. The main question is if Michael Turner can carry the workload?

30.San Francisco 49ers: Alex Smith hasn't been worthy of the number one pick so far and in a Mike Martz offense he will take a beating. On the bright side, Patrick Willis is turning into one of the premiere linebackers in the league.


31.Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs had a great draft but they still don't have a quarterback to get Dwayne Bowe the ball.

32.Miami Dolphins: No matter who they start, it will be a young quarterback. At least the Dolphins are looking towards the future.

Fbkid's fantasy football top ten rookies

Football season is around the corner which means that fantasy drafts are almost here. Every year a couple rookies have big years. Last year Marshawn Lynch, Adrian Peterson and Dwayne Bowe all had great rookie seasons. Lynch and Peterson were both drafted in all leagues. But Bowe unlike them wasn't and ended up starting on most fantasy teams by the end of the season. Here are my top 10 fantasy rookies which could help win you your league if you draft one of these guys or steal them off the waiver wire.


1.Jonathan Stewart RB Panthers: Running backs are always among the highest scoring players in fantasy football. That is the case on this list as Stewart has a great chance to start right away. DeAngelo Williams has been productive the last two years for the Panthers but he isn't the every down back that Stewart is. If he recovers from his toe injury soon Stewart could be starting by week one and could become a very good number two back. Expect around 1200 total yards and 9 touchdowns.

2.Kevin Smith RB Lions: Smith like Stewart has a very good chance of starting week one for the Lions. Tatum Bell hasn't done anything yet in Detroit and Smith brings a bruising style that would help out the passing game. Be careful drafting Smith in dynasty leagues though as he had 450 carries last year at UCF and his body could start breaking down in a few years. But this year expect around 1300 total yards and 8 touchdowns.

3.Darren McFadden RB Raiders: I know people won't like that McFadden is this low on the list but until the Raiders show they have a passing game it will be hard for McFadden to run this year. You make an arguement saying the Vikings don't have a passing game either and how Adrian Peterson did but the Raiders don't have Bryant McKinnie and Steve Hutchinson on the offensive line. McFadden should make an impact right away though as early on he could be used as a decoy and start getting lots of carries around the middle of the season. To start the year off he would be a good option as a number three back. Expect around 1000 total yards and 7 touchdowns.

4.Matt Forte RB Bears: This is my sleeper of the group as even though Lovie Smith says the job is Cedric Benson's to lose, he hasn't done anything yet. Forte brings a bruising running style to the Bears and could be a very good option around the goal line. Forte could be a very good late round pick that could pay off in a big way. Expect around 900 total yards and 7 touchdowns.

5.James Hardy WR Bills: Hardy should start opposite Lee Evans right away for the Bills this year. Hardy needs to work on his route running but is a great red zone threat for the Bills and that is where he will make fantasy football owners love him. Expect around 700 yards and 8 touchdowns.

6.Malcolm Kelly WR Redskins: Kelly has a great chance of starting right away for the Redskins as he is a red zone threat that they didn't have last year. Kelly could have the most immediate impact out of all the rookie receivers and would be a good nunber four receiver until he proves himself. Expect around 800 yards and 5 touchdowns.

7.Felix Jones RB Cowboys: Jones should make a great tandem with Marion Barber as they compliment each others styles as running backs. Jones now brings an element to the Cowboys as he can score anytime he touches the ball. He might be best off trying to acquire on the waiver wire but that could be dangerous. If he has one big game, everyone will be rushing to get him. Expect around 700 total yards and 5 touchdowns.

8.Rashard Mendenhall RB Steelers: Many people would have expected to see Mendenhall higher on the list but with Willie Parker and the Steelers throwing the ball more, he won't get as many carries as people would think. Mendenhall should get around 100 to 150 carries so don't expect all world numbers. He is a great 1st round pick in a rookie league. Expect around 700 total yards and 4 touchdowns.

9.Mario Manningham WR Giants: Manningham could have an immediate impact on the Giants this year as a slot receiver but he should be starting in the next few years. Sinorice Moss hasn't done much yet so it's Manningham's job to lose. With teammates in Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burress he won't have to worry about much pressure from defenses. He would be a very good 2nd round pick in rookie leagues. Expect around 600 yards and 3 touchdowns.

10.Steve Slaton RB Texans: This is my 2nd big sleeper as Slaton has a very good chance of getting immediate playing time for the Texans. Ahman Green is injury prone and didn't do much last year and Chris Brown is injury prone as well. Slaton could also make a big impact in the return game as well. Expect around 900 total yards and 3 touchdowns.

Possibilities for the Browns at cornerback

Training camp isn't even underway and the Browns already have a position that needs to be addressed. That position is cornerback. After trading Leigh Bodden away in the offseason, Browns fans knew it wouldn't be the strongest position but now Daven Holly a corner entering his 4th year who was supposed to compete for a starting job, is now out for the year with a severe left leg injury. This is coming a week after the Browns cut Kenny Wright who was arrested on drug charges earlier this offseason. The Browns signed Terry Cousin yesterday which is a good move as he brings leadership and experience. Cousin though will be used more as a nickel corner like he was for the Jaguars. Here are some of my thoughts of what I feel the Browns should do to try and address the cornerback position.


Try to trade for Lito Sheppard: Just writing this I can already picture all of the "Braylon Edwards to the Eagles" posts i'm going to be seeing in the next few weeks. That trade though has no chance of happening though as Edwards is already establishing himself as one of the best receivers in the game. If the Browns do try and trade for Sheppard the asking price could be too much. If the Browns part with any receiver it would most likely me a guy like a Travis Wilson who has good size but hasn't made the impact they expected yet. This could be out of the Browns price range but it is an option.


Try and sign Ty Law: This move makes the most sense to me as Law already has experience in Romeo Crennel's system as they were both with the Patriots for the three super bowl titles. Law would be a great veteran presence for Eric Wright as Wright showed glimpses of why he could be a special corner in the league last year as a rookie. Law can still play as he has been productive the past couple years but at 34 he is starting to slow down a bit. He could also be out of the Browns price range but would bring good value if the Browns could sign him to a one year contract.


Trade for Domonique Foxworth: This could be the best possible move for the Browns as it won't cost nearly as much as the others. Foxworth has shown that he could be a solid corner but with Champ Bailey and Dre Bly ahead of him he won't get much of a shot to start in Denver. The Browns might be able to get him cheaper since he is entering the last year of his contract. All this might cost the Browns is a second round draft pick.


So to me the best move would be to go after Foxworth as he is young, and for the money brings good value. But other then that going after Ty Law makes the most sense for the Browns.

5-22-08 Weekly Mailbag

Clearly Jake Long did the right thing by returning for his senior season at Michigan. What do you see in store for Chad Henne and Mike Hart?

FB: I feel that Henne could end up being a very good starting quarterback in the league as he has a strong arm,leadership and experience in big games. Henne also has experience in a pro style offense. He might not play for the Dolphins this year though as right now it's John Beck's job to lose. Beck is the only guy left on the team who started for them last year and even though he isn't a Bill Parcells type of quarterback,they will still give him a very good look. Beck I think will start for the Dolphins this year but Henne is the guy for the future.

Hart has a very good chance of becoming one of the steals of the draft in Indianapolis. As I mentioned in my AFC Draft grades article Kenton Keith is replaceable and Hart is good enough to come in and get 5 to 10 carries a game.

Manningham though could be a absolute stud in New York. He is now going to the defending Super Bowl champs and will get taught the game by Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burress who are both very good receivers. Manningham looked good in the first mini camp but he got hurt in the process so we will see what happens.

Arrington has the potential to be a very good player and could be another Marques Colston like find for the Saints in the 7th round. The only problem is the Saints are deep at receiver and character is a concern. The Saints haven't gotten anything out of last years first round pick at receiver Robert Meachem who didn't even step on an NFL field last year. At this point Arrington is more of a developmental project and should start off this year on the practice squad.

Fbkid's AFC South draft grades

It is the second installment of my draft grades and it is time to head to the AFC South. This could be the toughest division in all of football as 3 out of 4 teams made the playoffs. All of these teams have had success building through the draft so it should be tight race for who gets the best grade.


Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jaguars needed to address the defensive line heading into the draft and they did a good job focusing on it during day one. The Jaguars traded up to number 8 and selected Derrick Harvey. Harvey is a good player who will really help out the Jags but they gave up a lot to take him. This could end up being one of the riskiest moves in the draft. Quentin Groves was a good pick in the second round as he has great pass rushing ability. Groves is a first round talent but teams were scared off by his reported heart problems. Thomas Williams was a good pick in the 5th round as he should bring depth at linebacker and will make an impact on special teams. Trae Williams was a good value in the 5th round as he brings depth at corner which you can't get enough of when you play against the AFC's elite in the Patriots and the Colts twice. Chauncey Washington was a value in the 7th round as he could become a good kick returner and maybe become a key player in a few years as Fred Taylor is almost done. Overall the Jaguars had a good draft but it will all depend on how Harvey does to see if he was worth trading up 18 spots in the draft.

Grade: B-


Tennessee Titans: The Titans had a very interesting draft as many people thought that they would address wide receiver needs in the first round. Instead they drafted Chris Johnson in the first round. Johnson brings lots of speed to the offense and should make a great 1-2 punch with LenDale White. Johnson will also use his 4.24 speed to help in the return game. Jason Jones is a project at defensive end but could become a good player if he has time to develop. The Titans best pick though was receiver Lavelle Hawkins in the 4th round. Hawkins doesn't have great timed speed but plays faster then he is timed. The Titans got some solid players in the draft but where they picked them is the problem.

Grade: C

Indianapolis Colts: The Colts didn't have a pick in the first round but they did a good job of taking players who fit the teams system. Mike Pollak was the first center off the board in round two but he is very athletic and will be the eventual replacement of Jeff Saturday. Philip Wheeler was a good pick in the 3rd round as he gives the Colts a blitzing linebacker that they need. Jacob Tamme was a great pick in the 4th round as he gives the Colts another threat at tight end and will eventually replace Dallas Clark. Marcus Howard was also a solid pick in the 5 round as he should contribute on special teams and add depth at the linebacker position. Mike Hart was a good sleeper pick in the 6th round as he could become a decent 3rd down back and with the issues involving Kenton Keith, Hart could make an impact right away. The Colts didn't have many picks but for the few they had they made the most of them.

Houston Texans: The Texans got caught in a middle of a run on offensive tackles and some would consider that they reached to address a need. Duane Brown is a very athletic tackle who has experience on the left and right side but where the Texans took him was the issue. With the right coaching Brown could be one of the better offensive tackles in this draft class. Antwuan Moldin was a good pick in the 3rd round. He is a bit raw and if the Texans give him a few years the pick will really pay off for them. Steve Slaton was a value pick in the 3rd round. Slaton could end up playing a big part in the Texans backfield this season considering that both Chris Brown and Ahman Green are injury prone. Xavier Adibi was a very good pick in the 4th round as he and DeMeco Ryans should be forces at the linebacker position for years to come. The real wildcard of the draft for the Texans is 5th round pick Frank Okam. Okam is a first round talent but he isn't always focusing on the game. So overall the Texans did a very good job of addressing team needs. If Okam pans out, this draft could be a very good one for the Texans.

Fbkid's AFC North draft grades

The draft is now over so it is time to grade the teams to see how they did in the draft. I will be grading the teams and doing them by division. The first installment is the AFC North which is one of the toughest divisions in football. All of these teams have had great success building through the draft so it should be interesting to see who gets the best grade.


Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens should be happy with their draft as they traded down and got the guy they wanted in Joe Flacco. The only problem was they didn't have to trade up to 18 to get him. The Ravens probably could have got him at 26. Ravens fans agree with that as well. Just check Blogimore Ravens for more on the matter. Flacco though has a cannon arm which is something that the Ravens haven't had in a quarterback in a while. Ray Rice was a good pick in round 2 as he is very durable and is a good insurance policy for Willis McGahee. Tavares Gooden was a good pick in round 3 as he should develop and gives the Ravens depth to help a linebacker corps that is aging. Tom Zbikowski was a good pick in the 3rd round as well as he will help out immediately on special teams. Marcus Smith was a decent pick in the 4th round as the Ravens are still looking for a big play receiver. Smith is more of a project at this moment. Overall the Ravens had a good draft but they needed to address the cornerback position as both Samari Rolle and Chris McAllister are aging.

Cincinnati Bengals: Lots of Bengals fans don't like the draft they had but it wasn't as bad as people think. Keith Rivers was a great value at number nine as he will be starting at linebacker for years to come. Jerome Simpson is a good pick in the second round but the problem is that more established receivers such as Malcolm Kelly and Limas Sweed were still on the board. Pat Sims was a good value in the 3rd round as he filled a need and many people had him as a first day pick. Andre Caldwell was a good pick in the 3rd round as he should immediately make an impact. Anthony Collins was a good pick in the 4th round as he brings depth to the offensive line. The Bengals got some good players in the draft and chances are that some of the picks will play from the start. If Mario Urrita pans out as a 7th round pick and turns into a good redzone target this draft looks a lot better.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Many people say the Steelers had the best draft out of any team. But lots of that is based on the name recognition of the class. Rashard Mendenhall was a good value for where the Steelers were picking and should compliment Willie Parker to improve the Steelers ground game. Ben Roethlisberger wanted a tall receiver and he got one in Limas Sweed in the second round. Sweed was a great value in the 2nd round and could start in a few years. The best pick the Steelers had was Bruce Davis as he fits perfectly with the Steelers 3-4 scheme. He and Lamarr Woodley should be book ends for the Steelers at linebacker for years to come. Dennis Dixon was a bit of a reach in round 5 as he will mainly be used on gadget plays. The Steelers got good value for where they picked but they didn't address the biggest need with the offensive line. If they addressed that more it could have been a great draft.

Cleveland Browns: The Browns didn't have a pick in the first three rounds but if you look closer they got great value out of those picks. With those three picks the Browns got Brady Quinn, Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers. I'm sure the Browns aren't complaining about that haul. Both Williams and Rogers are pro bowl caliber defensive tackles and where the Browns were taking it's not like Glenn Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis would have fallen to them. Unlike a quarterback they could have drafted, Quinn already knows the playbook and should start in a few years. In the 4th round Beau Bell was a good pick as he should get some playing time right away. Martin Rucker was a decent pick in round 4 as the Browns now have two great pass catching tight ends in Rucker and Kellen Winslow. The Browns didn't do much in the draft with the picks they had but what makes the draft is what came with the picks they traded away.

Fbkid's 2008 NFL Draft Big Board #2

The draft is only a week away so I feel it is a good time to release another big board. Considering the last big board was done in December many changes have happened. For instance, Andre Woodson was among the top 15 in the last installment. Now he probably won't even be a day one pick. So here is my second big board.


1.Jake Long T Michigan: Could be one of the safest picks in this draft after a great career at Michigan.

2.Glenn Dorsey DT LSU: Had a great pro day showing and could be a top 3 pick but durability is a concern.

3.Darren McFadden RB Arkansas: One of the most explosive players in the draft, McFadden should come in and make an immediate impact in the NFL.

4.Sedrick Ellis DT USC: Ellis is a force in the middle and will be a great additon to a team like the Bengals at number nine who have trouble stopping the run.

5.Chris Long DE Virginia: Long is another safe pick as he has a great motor and should be a force for years to come.

6.Matt Ryan QB Boston College:Has great mechanics and poise and is the closest it gets to a franchise quarterback in this draft class.

7.Vernon Gholston DE Ohio State: Had great workout numbers but is he the next Mike Mamula?

8.Branden Albert G/T Virginia: Albert was rising up the draft boards but his versatility now makes him a top ten pick.

9.Ryan Clady T Boise State: Has great potential but didn't play against much competition in college.

10.Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois: Mendenhall has the potential to be a very good back. The only problem is if he is a one year wonder.

11.Chris Williams T Vanderbilt: Has great size and has lots of experience against top competiton. The only question is if he is physical enough.

12.Keith Rivers LB USC: A great leader and has the potential to be the next great linebacker from USC.

13.Leodis McKelvin CB Troy: One of the best cover corners in the draft and has added value with his skills as a returner. The only question is the lack of competition he played in college.

14.Jeff Otah T Pittsburgh: Is versatile as he has played both left and right tackle. Has the potential to be a pro bowl caliber player.

15.Jerod Mayo LB Tennessee: Has good speed and is versatile as he has played inside and out. Has also been very productive against top competion in college.

16.Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tennessee State: Great athlete who has excellent leaping ability and will make a huge impact in the return game. The main question is how will he play against top competition.

17.Devin Thomas WR Michigan State: Has great size and isn't afraid to catch the ball in traffic and will also help in the return game. The only question is if he is a one year wonder.

18.Derrick Harvey DE Florida: Is a good athlete who has the potential to move to linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.

19.Jonathan Stewart RB Oregon: If not for concerns for his toe injury, would be a top 15 pick.

20.Phillip Merling DE Clemson: Has great size and a motor that is always running. Most teams will be scared off by the sports hernia surgery he needed.

21.Mike Jenkins CB USF: Has good coverage skills along with great closing speed. The only problem is that he sometimes plays down to the level of the competition.

22.Felix Jones RB Arkansas: Has great speed and finds the hole fast but would be best used complemented with a hard nosed runner like Marion Barber.

23.Kenny Phillips S Miami(FL):Has great size and moves pretty well. The only problem is that his production dropped when Brandon Meriweather went to the NFL.

24.Chris Johnson RB East Carolina: Has fantastic speed as he ran a 4.24 at the combine. Is a good receiver and is a excellent return man. Could also be used as a 3rd down back.

25.Limas Sweed WR Texas: Has great size and makes lots of acrobatic catches. The only problem is that he has a history of injuries.
