Fbkid's 2009 Draft Rankings: Running Back

Last year's draft class was a very strong one for running backs. Jonathan Stewart, Chris Johnson, Matt Forte, Kevin Smith and Steve Slaton all had very big impacts on their teams last year. Darren McFadden, Rashard Mendenhall and Felix Jones should also have big impacts next year as they were slowed down by injuries. While the 2008 draft class could go down as the "Year of the running back", the 2009 class is full of backs that should have an immediate impact on the next level as well. Here are my running back rankings for this year's class.

1. Knowshon Moreno Georgia: Moreno doesn't have great timed speed, but he has an excellent burst and is a very hard runner. He also has very good vision and while Moreno probably won't be able to handle the ball 25 times a game, he should be a very solid back in the NFL.

2. Chris Wells Ohio State: Wells has great size and has very good feet and vision for a runner his size. He is very good at getting yards after contact and has the speed to finish runs. The only question is if Wells can stay healthy.

3. LeSean McCoy Pittsburgh: McCoy is a very shifty runner who is great at making defenders miss. He is also a good receiver out of the backfield and has a chance of being selected late in round one.

4. Donald Brown Connecticut: Brown is flying up draft boards and while he doesn't have that "wow" factor, he has excellent run instincts and vision. Brown also proved that he can carry a full work load as he had 367 carries for the Huskies last year. Brown should be an excellent value pick in round two but don't be surprised if he sneaks past McCoy and is picked late in the first round.

5. Rashad Jennings Liberty: Coming from Liberty, Jennings isn't known by most casual fans but he certainly has talent. Jennings was the starting running back at Pittsburgh his freshman year before transferring and then went on to have a very good career at Liberty. Jennings is a hard runner who gets better as the game goes on and is a solid receiver out of the backfield. Don't be surprised if he's this year's Matt Forte.

6. Andre Brown NC State: Brown was a highly coveted player out of high school but injuries plagued his career at NC State. He is a very hard runner and is a solid receiver out of the backfield. Due to the facts he looked healthier towards the end of his senior year and he hasn't taken that much of a pounding in college, Brown has the potential to be a much better pro than college player.

7. Gartrell Johnson Colorado State: Johnson is a converted fullback and it shows in his running style. He is the definition of a thumper and is a very hard runner inside. Because of this, Johnson is quicker than you would think and while he doesn't have excellent timed speed, he can get past defenders in the open field. Johnson could have a career very similar to that of Jaguars fullback Greg Jones as he has is a good blocker and could fill in at running back in a pinch.

8. James Davis Clemson: Davis has a solid build and a nose for the endzone as he left Clemson as their all time touchdown leader. He was never a full time back but could be very effective complementary runner like the way LenDale White is used with the Titans.

9. Mike Goodson Texas A&M: Goodson could be the fastest back in the class as he has the ability to score every time he touches the ball. He has very good vision and is hard to bring down. Goodson also due to his athleticism has the ability to really help in the return game even though he was hardly used at Texas A&M. He could be a very good back in a zone blocking scheme and has the potential to be this year's Steve Slaton.

10. Shonn Greene Iowa: Greene was one of the most productive running backs in all of college football last year but he has some things going against him at the next level. He will be a 24 year old rookie and isn't as physical a runner as most would think. On the bright side, he has very good size and waits for the holes to open up. Greene is big enough to complement a speed back and could have a few very good years if forced to carry the load and could end up having a similar career to Rudi Johnson who at one time was arguably one of the best backs in the league.

Bears Finally Grab A Star Quarterback, But Broncos Make Out Like Bandits

The arguing between Jay Cutler and the Denver Broncos has been well documented. After attempting to trade for Matt Cassel who new head coach Josh McDaniels worked with in New England, Cutler was angry and wanted to be traded. Today, he finally got his wish as he is going to the Chicago Bears. The Bears gave up a king’s ransom for Cutler including two first round picks, a third rounder and last year's starter at quarterback, Kyle Orton. Here is how I think the trade works out for both sides.

One of the Bears biggest problems the past few years has been the play at the quarterback position. That isn't the case anymore. Cutler is a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback who in his three year career has thrown for 51 touchdowns and is coming off a 2008 season in which he threw for 25 touchdowns and over 4500 yards. Cutler has arguably the strongest arm in football and gives the Bears the star power at quarterback they have been looking for since Jim McMahon.

The Bears now have a very good offensive nucleus to build around with Cutler, Matt Forte who is coming off a 1000 yard campaign as a rookie and the explosive Devin Hester at receiver. While receiver is still a need for the Bears, don't be surprised if you hear the name Earl Bennett frequently next year. Bennett played with Cutler at Vanderbilt and went on to become the all time leading receiver in SEC history.

Even though the Broncos got rid of a franchise quarterback, they still have the opportunity to be competitive next year. Orton doesn't have the passing ability of Cutler but he is a very good game manager who can throw the ball when necessary. If the Broncos aren't set on Orton, they now have the ability to trade into the top 10 and grab either Matt Stafford or Mark Sanchez. Chances are Stafford will go number one to the Lions but if Sanchez is available at number eight, the Jaguars would love to trade down. While Cutler would have been a perfect fit for the new offense McDaniels is installing, Orton isn't a bad one year option while the Broncos groom a new quarterback for the future.

Overall, the Broncos are big winners in this trade. They received two first round picks, a third rounder and Orton for Cutler and a fifth rounder. That is a lot to give up for a "proven" quarterback who is 17-20 in his career as a starter and has never played in a playoff game. It has also been documented that Cutler has been known to get flustered by the way the media talks about him. If he feels that way in Denver, imagine how the pressure will be in one of the biggest media markets in the country? Cutler immediately makes the Bears a playoff contender in a weak NFC North, but in a city desperate for a winning sports team, anything short of a Super Bowl appearance will be a disappointment. This trade could be a very good one for both the Broncos and the Bears, but it also has the potential to be this decade's version of the Herschel Walker trade

Fbkid's 2009 Draft Rankings: Quarterback

Unlike last year, this draft isn't very deep at the quarterback position. Last year happened to be a pretty strong class of quarterbacks as Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco came in right away and led their teams to the playoffs and should be stars for years to come. Chad Henne also has the potential to become an elite quarterback when the Dolphins start him which is most likely in 2010. Here are my quarterback rankings for this year's class.

1. Matt Stafford Georgia
2. Mark Sanchez USC
3. Josh Freeman Kansas State
4. Nate Davis Ball State
5. Rhett Bomar Sam Houston State
6. Brian Hoyer Michigan State
7. Curtis Painter Purdue
8. Pat White West Virginia
9. Todd Boeckman Ohio State
10. Graham Harrell Texas Tech

2009 class grade: C

Summary:

Matt Stafford has one of the strongest arms in all of football and has the potential to be a pro bowl caliber player. Stafford though needs to work on his accuracy, consistency and his footwork which at times can get sloppy.

Mark Sanchez has all of the tools to be a very good quarterback in the NFL. He has excellent mechanics and played best in big games. The only problem is he only started 16 games in college so the potential to be a one year wonder is there.

Josh Freeman could have more upside then any quarterback in this class. He has prototypical size and a very strong arm. He didn't put up gaudy numbers in college mainly due to the fact that he didn't have anywhere near the supporting casts that Stafford and Sanchez had. Due to the Joe Flacco effect last year, Freeman is flying up draft boards and could end up being selected in the first half of round one.

Nate Davis is a proven winner who put the Ball State program on the map and has a big arm. He doesn't have the ideal height you look for but if given two or three years to develop, could become a solid starter.

Rhett Bomar is best known as the guy who was kicked out of Oklahoma but has turned his career around since. He has a strong arm and if coached properly could become a good pro.

Brian Hoyer didn't put up eye popping numbers at Michigan State, but is moving up draft boards. Hoyer performed well at both the East-West shrine game at the combine. He is one of the fastest rising quarterbacks on the board and could be picked in round four or five.

Curtis Painter is the Brian Brohm of this year's class. Before the year, everyone had Painter going in the first round. Now, he projects more as a possible late round pick. Painter has talent and is worth a team taking a chance on him in day two.

Pat White by most isn't projected at quarterback at the next level. Say what you want about him but White if a proven winner. He is undersized but is a better passer and has a stronger arm then people realize. Even though he is reluctant to do receiver drills, if White decides to take on the challenge and change positions he could have a similar career to Antwan Randle El.

Todd Boeckman had a very solid junior season before splitting time with freshman phenom Terrelle Pryor. That sounds like a story very similar to Tom Brady's who split time with Drew Henson before establishing himself as one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Now in no way shape or form am I comparing Boeckman to Brady, just don't underestimate him. Boeckman has prototypical size and good presence in the pocket. Out of all the quarterbacks who will be drafted on day two of this year's draft, Boeckman has the most upside.

Graham Harrell had an excellent career at Texas Tech but it will be very hard for him to adjust to the pros. He didn't have to make many NFL type throws and it will be a challenge getting used to taking the ball from center. Unlike the other Texas Tech quarterback products, Harrell has the ability to become a decent backup in the NFL.

Only One Team Attends Nate Davis' Pro Day

When the whole draft process started, Nate Davis was a quarterback who lots of people were talking about. He led the Ball State Cardinals, a school that is better known for producing David Letterman than any NFL player, to a 12-0 start. People were praising him and calling him the next great quarterback to come from the MAC. Now March rolls along when you would expect Davis to show scouts why he should possibly be a first day pick at his pro day. In one of the worst possible scenerios, only one team shows up for his Pro Day. Here is what I think hurt Davis' stock and will end up happening with him come draft time and how he will fair in the NFL.

Davis' fall started in December. The Cardinals went on to lose their last two games and Davis didn't look that impressive in either of them. He frequently turned the ball over and even played one of the games sick. This made teams very wary is Davis would have the instincts to become a starting quarterback. It only got worse at the combine. Davis measured in at 6'1 and while many scouts viewed him as an athletic quarterback, he clocked a 4.98 in the forty yard dash.

The only team who showed up at Davis' pro day was the Indianapolis Colts. If any team selects Davis, this could be the best case scenario for him. Davis needs a team with a quarterback so he can sit behind him and learn the offense for the next two or three years. A team like the Colts could be a perfect fit. Peyton Manning will be entering his 12th year in the league and will probably only play two or three more years. By the time he retires, Davis will either be ready to take over the offense or they will need to draft a replacement. Considering Davis will most likely be a 4th-5th round pick, this move doesn’t have much downside for the Colts.

Overall, I think Davis could turn out to be a solid quarterback who needs at least two or three years to develop. He has the work ethic teams look for and is very coachable and is an accurate passer who can make throws on the run. Davis also compares very favorably to former Heisman trophy winner Troy Smith as they are both accurate outside the pocket. The only real difference is that Davis has a stronger arm. In the NFL, Davis could become a solid starter but will at least be a serviceable backup.

How The Matt Cassel Trade Affects The Chiefs and Matt Stafford

Matt Cassel was an afterthought to most fans until week one of last season when Tom Brady tore his ACL against the Kansas City Chiefs. Cassel was then put into the starting role where he went on to throw for 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Today, Cassel has been traded to the team that gave him the chance to shine. It was rumored that the Patriots would need at least a first rounder to trade Cassel, but they ended up trading him for the 35th pick in the draft. This trade doesn't only affect the Chiefs though; it also affects Georgia quarterback Matt Stafford. Here is how the trade affects the Chiefs and one top quarterback prospects in this year's draft.

Last season the Chiefs started three quarterbacks throughout the course of the season in Damon Huard, Brodie Croyle and Tyler Thigpen. While Huard and Croyle suffered season ending injuries, Thigpen had a solid year throwing for 18 touchdowns and led all quarterbacks in rushing. The Chiefs now have stability at the position and have some weapons to score. Dwayne Bowe is one of the best young receivers in the league and Tony Gonzalez is a future hall of famer at tight end. The running game should also be effective with Larry Johnson (if he isn't traded) and young players such as Jamaal Charles and Kolby Smith. They still need to improve on the offensive line and the defensive side of the ball, but the Chiefs could be fun to watch.

This trade could also cost the top quarterbacks in this year's draft lots of money. Right now Matt Stafford is the general consensus number one pick to the Detroit Lions. If the Lions decide to pass on him for a player like Aaron Curry or Jason Smith, Stafford could be in a free fall. Most of the teams in the top ten have either recently taken a quarterback in the 1st round or have big money tied up into a veteran. Even though they signed David Garrard to a big deal this past offseason, the Jaguars still aren't set at the quarterback position and would need to give him a long look. If the Jaguars don't take him, Stafford could possibly fall to 10 or 11 and be drafted by either the 49ers or Bills and a team like the Jets could trade up and take him.

When it's all said and done, this is a huge steal for the Chiefs. They get a proven quarterback and don't have to worry about paying huge money to a player who hasn't taken a snap in the NFL. The way things look right now, Stafford will be drafted by the Lions but a lot can change between now and April 25th.

First Day of Free Agency Winners and Losers

For many fans, free agency is the official start of a new season and the first day of free agency is when many players get big time money. This is also a day that can make or break a team. A good signing can give a contending team that one piece that puts them over the top while a bad signing could damage the salary cap and possibly cost a GM its job. Here are my winner and losers for the first day of free agency so far.

Winners:

Miami Dolphins: It's not often that a safety coming off a season with 129 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 2 interceptions gets cut, but the Dolphins found one in Gibril Wilson. Wilson addresses a huge need and is in the prime of his career. This move should keep the Dolphins competitive in the AFC East even if Tom Brady comes back fully healthy.

New England Patriots: Not often is the signing of a 33 year old running back applauded, but this one is different. Fred Taylor can still play. Taylor was forced out of town due to the emergence of the younger Maurice Jones-Drew who has 34 rushing touchdowns in his three year career with the Jaguars. Taylor may not be able to take a 20-25 carry workload but is fully capable of the 12-15 he will be getting per game in New England. Don't be surprised if Taylor comes in and has the same kind of impact that Corey Dillon did a few years ago.

Losers:

Washington Redskins: The Redskins made a huge splash in free agency by signing Albert Haynesworth and DeAngelo Hall to contracts worth a combined $155 million. Those two deals include $64 million in guaranteed money. While the Redskins landed arguably the best free agent in the class, these are both moves they will later regret. Haynesworth when he wants to be is an unstoppable force in the middle but has only played really well the last two seasons. Coincidentally those were contract years. Now that he has already cashed in, what motivation does he have to play hard? The signing of Hall was also a mistake. He is one of the most physically gifted corners in the league, but he thinks he is a lot better then he really is and is a cancer in the locker-room. . He also takes too many risks and too often gets beat for the long touchdown. With corners being so rare in the NFL right now, if you are a number one corner you wouldn't be on three teams in the last two years. The Redskins earlier this decade were always willing to pay the big bucks in free agency and not get many results, unfortunately there is a very real possibility it could happen again.

Fbkid's Super Bowl Predictions

Unfortunately, there is only one game left in the NFL season and it is the one we have all been waiting for. Coming into the season, the Steelers were a preseason favorite in the AFC as they have one of the league's best quarterbacks in Ben Roethlisberger and a very strong defense. For some time now the Cardinals have always been a trendy pick to make the playoffs. Now that they finally got there, they are making the most of the opportunity. Here is my Super Bowl prediction along with my key to victory and x-factor for each team.

Cardinals:

Key to victory: Edgerrin James RB: When James left the Colts after a seven year stint with the team, the Colts went on to win the Super Bowl. Now James finally gets to the big game and can have his time to shine. The Steelers defense is ferocious and will blitz Kurt Warner on every play. If James can make an impact on the touches he gets, it will throw the Steelers defense off guard opening up the passing game for Warner to get the ball to his all pro receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.

X-Factor: Adrian Wilson S: Wilson is one of the best safeties in the entire league and doesn't quite get his due. In fact, you probably wouldn't even be able to tell that there is another Pro Bowl safety in this game other then Troy Polamalu but Wilson fits the bill. Wilson is a ball hawk and should have a huge impact on a Cardinals defense that has really risen to the occasion this postseason.

Steelers:

Key to Victory: The offensive line: I said it last year and I will say it again; the Steelers still need to improve on the offensive line. Roethlisberger does a great job of moving around in the pocket but he has taken a lot of shots over the years. The Cardinals have really gotten pressure on opposing quarterbacks and the offensive line has to play well for them to win this game.

X-Factor: LaMarr Woodley LB: It's hard to go under the radar playing across from the defensive player of the year on one of the most popular teams in the league, but Woodley manages to do it. While Harrison faces constant double teams, Woodley should have favorable matchups on the edge and has shown that he is fully capable of making teams pay.

Prediction: While the Steelers have been here before and the Cardinals don't have much veteran experience, they have players and coaches who have been here before. Unless the Steelers offensive line comes to play, the Cardinals defense could have a very big game and if it turns into a shootout, the Steelers don't have the fire power that the Cardinals do. My prediction is Cardinals 24 Steelers 20.

ESPN Or NFL Network?

Recently ESPN's Chris Mortensen and NFL Network's Adam Schefter had conflicting reports on Mike Shanahan becoming the new head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. While Mortensen said that Shanahan would become the new coach, Schefter said "Unless people I have known for years are blatantly lying to me, Mike Shanahan is not going to be the head coach of Kansas City Chiefs." This brings up a question: Where do you go for your NFL news? ESPN or NFL Network? Here I will compare and contrast both networks to see which one is the best to get the latest news on the league.

ESPN: When people think of ESPN's NFL coverage, the first thing that comes to mind is the names that they have. With names like Mike Ditka, Steve Young, Cris Carter and Emmitt Smith you are hearing some of the best to ever play the game talking about the league. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they are good. Smith was one of the greatest running backs of all time but when he says things like "Steve Slaton is the type of running back who makes plays with his legs" you can't help but laugh. ESPN is smart to get former stars to talk about the league since people will watch, but people will go elsewhere to learn about the happenings in the league. The game coverage is very good as both Mike Tirico and Ron Jaworski are both very good. Tony Kornheiser on the other hand, doesn't seem to know about what's going on in the game and only focuses on how much "Star Power" and the sup plots of the game like earlier this year when he talked about Vince Young the entire time the Titans were on. The draft coverage is very good though as both Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay are among the best in the business. Many people don't like Kiper as they find him annoying but if it wasn't for him, the draft is nowhere what it is today. Even though they only highlight the top players on shows like NFL Live and Sportscenter, when the draft comes along, both of these guys know their stuff. With everything being said, ESPN used to be most people's go to source for league coverage, but it is starting to become more and more like a tabloid.

NFL Network: Unlike ESPN, many households don't have NFL Network, but it is quickly gaining momentum. NFL Network airs things like the NFL Combine, Thursday Night Football and most recently the Under Armour Senior Bowl. They also have exclusive NFL programming such as America's Game which is a very well done piece on all of the Super Bowl winning teams along with some of the greatest games from all the different decades. For breaking news NFL Network is the best option as on many occasions Schefter, their lead reporter, sometimes breaks stories straight out of the league office. Regarding the Shanahan case, Schefter is very trust worthy considering before he joined the Network he was a beat writer in Denver where he formed relationships with Shanahan along with many other prominent Broncos. Analyists on shows such as "Total Access" are solid as Rod Woodson knows what he is talking about and while some may dislke Deion Sanders, but he The draft coverage is solid as well as both Mike Mayock and Charles Davis know what they are talking about. Mayock is very high on lesser known players and often has very different opinions then other draft analysts. For instance, while most experts had Darren McFadden as the number one running back in the draft, Mayock had Rashard Mendenhall. Even this year, Mayock has Andre Smith as the number three tackle on his board while many others have him as a top 5 pick.

Final Verdict: When it comes to watching highlights I will most likely watch ESPN as I like some of the Sportscenter guys and think they are funny. But when it comes to everything else NFL, I will lean towards the NFL Network as their reports are very accurate and it's NFL football 24/7 what beats that?

So now the decision is yours, where channel do you watch for your NFL news and why: ESPN or NFL Network?

Recapping My 10 Shocking Predictions

As some of you may remember, this preseason I put together a list of ten shocking predictions I had for the NFL season. With two weeks of down time until the Super Bowl, it's a good time to look back on how I did. Some of them were right on the money while others were the farthest thing from the truth.

1. Troy Smith will be the starting quarterback for the Ravens week one:

What I said: Many people would expect Kyle Boller or possibly Joe Flacco to be starting for the Ravens, but they may have forgotten about Smith. The former Heisman trophy winner last year looked good in limited playing time and so far the team is really impressed with what they have seen in mini camp. Flacco could be the long term answer for the Ravens, but don't be surprised if Smith starts for the next year or two.

Now: If Smith didn't have a Tonsil Infection in the preseason where he lost over 20 pounds, this prediction would have come true. Instead the door opened for rookie Joe Flacco and it never closed. Flacco led the team to the AFC championship game as a rookie while Smith came in for the occasional trick play and got some relief work. Smith is a solid backup who can be effective as a starter but as long as Flacco is at the helm, the Ravens are a contender in the AFC.

2. The Cowboys won't be representing the NFC in the Super Bowl:

What I said: For the last two years, many people have been saying that the Cowboys are the team to beat in the NFC. But come playoff time, they don't beat anyone. This team has loads of talent but for this team to succeed ego's can't be colliding in the locker room and the odds of that happening aren't very good.

Now: I also took some heat for this prediction but it ended up coming true. Not only did the Cowboys not make the Super Bowl, but they didn't make the playoffs either. With a dysfunctional locker room being one of the main problems look for Terrell Owens to join Adam "Pacman" Jones as players who coming in had character concerns to not join the team next year. But if we learned anything out of this it's that the scariest thing in the NFL isn't Ed Reed or Adrian Peterson in the open field, its Ed Werder reporting from Valley Ranch.

3. The Pittsburgh Steelers won't make the playoffs:

What I said: Many people think the Steelers are going to win the AFC North again but if you look inside the numbers, the odds aren't very good. The Steelers have the highest strength of schedule in the league and their offensive line had lots of issues last year and the loss of Alan Faneca won't help. Looking at that, the Browns are the best bet to win this division.

Now: This prediction was way off. Looking back at it the Steelers had a very tough schedule, a weak offensive line and I was on the Browns bandwagon. While the offensive line is still areas of concern, the Steelers had the best defense in the league and are now two weeks away from winning an NFL record 6 Super Bowls.

4. The Buffalo Bills will make the playoffs:

What I said: The Bills had a solid year last year at 7-9 but this year, they can be even better. They now have a clear choice at quarterback in Trent Edwards as well as an every down back in Marshawn Lynch. The receiving corps also improved as the team drafted 6'6 James Hardy in the second round. The defense is also improving as Paul Posluszny will be healthy and Leodis McKelvin should improve the secondary and the return game. Plus they don't have the strongest division. Other than the Patriots, they play the Dolphins and Jets a combined 4 times. If they play .500 football the rest of the year, the Bills would have a 10-6 record which should be good for a wildcard birth in the AFC.

Now: For the first month or so, this prediction was looking really good. Then after Trent Edwards suffered a concussion in week five against the Cardinals, everything went downhill. After that hit, the Bills went 3-8 the rest of the way including losing four of their last 5 games. This team is still very young and if they continue to build through the draft, they should make the playoffs in the next year or two.

5. Jonathan Stewart will win offensive rookie of the year:

What I said: Most people say that Darren McFadden will be the clear choice for rookie of the year honors. But Lane Kiffin already came out and said that he will be using him in a Reggie Bush type role. Stewart is most likely going to be the feature back in Carolina as DeAngelo Williams hasn't proved he's able to carry the ball 20 times a game. Stewart has fresh legs as he wasn't used that much in college so he should see lots of carries this season and could bring a ground game the Panthers haven't had in a while. Speaking of the Panthers...

Now: Usually a rookie season where you run for 836 yards and 10 touchdowns is good enough for rookie of the year honors that was far from the case this year. With two rookie quarterbacks leading their teams to the playoffs and three rookie running backs among the top ten in the league in rushing yards, it's going to be hard to win regardless of the numbers you put up. Stewart has a very bright future though as he showed tons of potential this year that will have Panthers and his fantasy owners next year screaming for more.

6. The Carolina Panthers will make the playoffs:

What I said: The NFC South is a weird division. Every single year, a different team wins it. This year could be the Panthers turn. Jake Delhomme was having a great season until it got cut short by Tommy John Surgery. If his great play carries over, the Panthers are in good shape. Plus they have one of the best receivers in the league in Steve Smith for Delhomme to throw to. If Julius Peppers and the rest of the defense improves, this team could be dangerous in the NFC.

Now: At the time, this is the prediction I took the most heat for but it ended up being spot on. Up until the divisional playoff game where he threw 5 interceptions, Jake Delhomme was doing a good job of getting the ball to his playmakers and managing the game. Part of the team's spark came from the running back tandem of Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams. It also helps that Williams went from 3rd down back to Superstar in a year running for over 1500 yards with 20 total touchdowns. The defense also looked reminiscent of the Super Bowl year as a rejuvenated Julius Peppers led the team with 14.5 sacks. As long as they have a solid running game and a good defense, the Panthers should be contenders in the NFC.

7. The Oakland Raiders will be a playoff spoiler come December:

What I said: This offseason, the Raiders did a very good job of getting talent through free agency and the draft. JaMarcus Russell now has a full year of the offense under his belt and the defense is much improved with the additions of DeAngelo Hall and Gibril Wilson. The Raiders may not start off that great as they have lots of new players adjusting, but by the end of the year, they can stop some teams from making the playoffs and possibly be a 7 or 8 win team.

Now: It's hard to believe but this prediction was actually right. If it wasn't for their loss to the Raiders in the final week of the season, the Buccaneers would have made the playoffs and Jon Gruden would still be their head coach. The Raiders also had a big win on the road in Denver where they beat the then division leading Broncos 31-10. JaMarcus Russell played very well the last couple of games and if he develops along with young receivers Johnnie Lee Higgins and Chaz Schilens, the Raiders can do even more next year.

8. Keith Rivers will win defensive rookie of the year:

What I said: Like Patrick Willis last year, Rivers has the chance to step in right away and be the leader of a defense. The Bengals have gotten some young defensive talent in the draft the last couple of years and now with the addition of Rivers, they are headed in the right direction.

Now: This prediction didn't fully get to play out as Rivers' season was cut short by a broken jaw courtesy of Steelers receiver Hines Ward. In the 7 games he did play in though, Rivers had 37 tackles and an interception. Even if he was healthy though, Rivers most likely wouldn't have won the award as Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo had an excellent rookie season. Rivers is a player to watch for in the future and could even breakout in 2009.

9. Drew Stanton will be the starting quarterback for the Lions by the end of the year:

What I said: If Stanton didn't have a season ending knee injury in preseason last year, there was a good chance he could have been starting as a rookie. But Jon Kitna is now 35 and isn't the long term answer. The only problem with Stanton is Mike Martz was spending the preseason last year changing Stanton's mechanics. Now he's gone and he will now have two different offensive coordinators in two years. But if the Lions are going to struggle, there isn't a better time to start the Stanton to Calvin Johnson connection.

Now: With the way things went for the Lions this year, for a while this prediction was looking good. The Lions must not have that much faith in Stanton though as Dan Orlovsky, Drew Henson and Daunte Culpepper fresh off coaching his son's Pop Warner team all started over Stanton. So far Stanton has been plagued by injuries and is slow to learn the offense and with the Lions holding the first pick eying Matt Stafford and Mark Sanchez, Stanton most likely won't be the quarterback of the future anymore in Detroit. The only bright spot for Stanton this year was that his first career pass went for a touchdown and even if he doesn't get his time to shine, he can always tell that to his grand kids.

10. Matt Forte will run for 1,000 yards as a rookie:

What I said: With the release of Cedric Benson, the Bears think they have found the bruising back they were looking for in Forte. Forte should be the feature back for the Bears and with the weak passing game will be the focal point of opposing defenses. His running style is perfect for the cold games in December.

Now: This one was right on the money as Forte ran for 1238 yards along with 8 touchdowns. In the process, he also proved to be a good receiver out of the backfield as he caught 63 passes. Forte is the Bears number one offensive weapon and if they get more talent around him, he will be even more effective.

Fbkid's Championship Game Predictions

This is the weekend that we have been waiting for all season as the Super Bowl matchup will finally be determined. The final four teams all have unique styles as the Ravens and Steelers have excellent defenses with solid offenses while the Eagles and Cardinals both have explosive offenses with both defenses improving every week. Here are my championship game picks in which should be two great games.

Last week: 2-2
Playoffs: 4-4

Eagles 21 Cardinals 26
Ravens 13 Steelers 20

Who To Watch For In The East-West Shrine Game

While the Senior Bowl gets most of the attention from scouts looking for players in the draft, the East-West Shrine Bowl has had their share of big names as well. Pro Bowlers such as Marques Colston, Greg Jennings, Jay Ratliff, Wes Welker and Jared Allen have all played in the game. This is also a time where some players from smaller schools get their chance to shine and attract attention. Some examples include Tarvaris Jackson, Jacoby Jones and most recently the Buccaneers 5th round draft pick quarterback Josh Johnson. Here are some players to watch in the game today.

Chase Daniel QB Missouri: Daniel was one of the most productive quarterbacks in all of college football for the last two years. Scouts didn't think he had much pro potential though as they thought he was undersized. Daniel then measured in at 6 feet and with a good showing in the game and at the combine; he could possibly get picked in the 4th or 5th round in an overall weak class of quarterbacks.

Hunter Cantwell QB Louisville: Coming into the year, scouts were in love with Cantwell's prototypical size and arm and was once considered a top 10 pick. After an average senior season, Cantwell's stock declined but could get back in the good graces of scout's with a good showing in the game and the combine. Considering the weak quarterback class, Cantwell could move up into the 3rd or 4th round with a few impressive showings.

Gartrell Johnson RB Colorado State: Johnson had a very productive senior year and started to get some attention after a huge bowl game against Fresno State where he ran for 285 yards with 2 touchdowns. Unlike many backs at 6'0 225 pounds Johnson can handle 20 carries a game at the next level. Johnson isn't very explosive and probably won't blow anyone away with his speed but he's a very productive back who could be a steal for somebody on day 2.

Javarris Williams RB Tennessee State: Like Johnson, Williams has put up solid numbers in his 4 year career and coming from a small school he hasn't gotten the attention he deserves. He is also a bruising back who has prototypical NFL size at 5'11 215 pounds. Williams doesn't have great timed speed either but with his frame can take the pounding at the next level. Tennessee State hasn't produced many NFL players but if Williams plays as well as Cardinals 1st round pick cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, he certainly won't be the last player drafted from the school.

Jarett Dillard WR Rice: Over the last three years Dillard has been the most productive receiver in all of college football. Over that time he has accumulated 55 touchdowns and over 255 catches. So why isn't Dillard being considered one of the top receiver prospects in this year's draft? That's because while Michael Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin play against teams like Oklahoma and Texas in the Big 12, Dillard is going against the likes of UAB and Tulane in Conference USA. As guys like Roddy White, Chris Johnson, Matt Forte and Brandon Marshall have proved the last few years though that Conference USA players can adjust to the NFL. He is an excellent route runner with great hands and is built very similar to another East-West Shrine alum Greg Jennings. Dillard could be a huge steal for someone on the second day of the draft.

Mike Thomas WR Arizona: Not many people have noticed but Thomas was one of the most productive receivers in Pac 10 history. He doesn't have the size teams look for at 5'8 195 pounds but at a time in the league where the passing game is so important, Thomas could develop into a great slot receiver. At his size he doesn't have the timed speed somebody would expect but he is a very good route runner who is quick in the open field. Thomas could be a very solid player for a team who is willing to take a chance on him in the later part of day 2.

Fbkid's Divisional Weekend Predictions

Wild Card weekend was a very good one as many teams had strong showings. Going in many people including myself doubted the Cardinals chances against a hot Falcons team. They ended up playing very well on both sides of the ball and won in convincing fashion. The Ravens also impressed as the defense was fantastic as always and Joe Flacco did a good job of managing the game. Here are my divisional weekend picks and hopefully they are better then last week.

Playoffs: 2-2
Season: 159-97-1

Ravens 16 Titans 13
Cardinals 21 Panthers 27
Eagles 17 Giants 23
Chargers 13 Steelers 17

Fbkid's Wild Card Weekend Predictions

Last week was one of my best weeks ever as I went 15-1 on my picks. The playoffs should be very interesting this weekend as we should be in for some high scoring games. The only problem with wild card weekend is most of the road teams are favored. That is because some of the wild card teams have better records then the division winners. My solution to fix that is to still have each division winner in the playoffs but seed the teams buy who has the best record. Then the best teams can deservingly host a home playoff game. Here are my wild card weekend picks.

Last week: 15-1
Season: 159-97-1

Falcons 26 Cardinals 23
Colts 27 Chargers 20
Ravens 24 Dolphins 13
Eagles 23 Vikings 17

CJ Shouldn't Have Gone Kanye

It is now being said that Titans rookie running back Chris Johnson thinks that the voting for the offensive rookie of the year is "bogus" because the people voting for it aren't on the playing field with them. Johnson has a case, but this was not a very good move. Before I go any furthur, some of you may know that I am one of the biggest Chris Johnson fans out there and have been hyping him up as a player. This is one scenerio where I will not be at his defense.

Johnson had an excellent rookie season with 1228 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. The only problem is, two rookie running backs arguably had better years in Steve Slaton and Matt Forte. Both Forte and Slaton had more rushing yards then Johnson and Forte also had more touchdowns. Slaton had as many touchdowns as Johnson and led all rookies with 1282 yards. If the Texans used him more at the beginning of the season, Slaton would probably have challenged Adrian Peterson for the rushing title.

In an era where fans also tend to dislike self centered players, this will turn some people off towards Johnson. When asked about how he felt about not winning Johnson went on to say “I’m disappointed. I did all I could to win it. I feel I did the best. I feel I did all I could do to win it; it just didn’t come my way." Even though Johnson doesn't have much to say and doesn't really talk to the media, people will now think of him as a Chad Johnson or Terrell Owens. Johnson will also be compared to Kanye West who has a past of saying things when not winning awards.
West has been quoted as saying the MTV Awards are "fixed" and also has made scenes after losing out on awards on numerous occasions.

The other problem for Johnson is that out of all the positions, running backs transition the easiest to the pro level. Quarterback is one of the hardest and Ryan overcame every challenge in his way. He not only turned one of the worst teams in the NFL into a playoff team in one year, but he also handled everything like a 10 year veteran. Ryan has also brought back hope to all Falcons fans in Atlanta after a year which included head coach Bobby Petrino leaving in the middle of the season and the Michael Vick saga. Ryan wasn't the only rookie quarterback to succeed this year though, you could also throw Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco into the mix as well as he along with the Ravens incredible defense made the transition from last place in the AFC North to a wildcard birth overnight.

As deserving as Ryan is, he also clearly had a better supporting cast then Johnson. While Johnson constantly had to matchup against 8 man fronts, Ryan had the league's second leading rusher in Michael Turner and a receiver in Roddy White who is 4th in the league with 1382 yards. The leading receiver on Johnson's team was Justin Gage with 651 yards. The only real offensive threat other then Johnson that the Titans have is LenDale White who with Johnson forms "Smash and Dash" which is arguably the best running back tandem in the league.

Johnson did have a very good year, but in a rookie class where players at all positions are having a big impact, he doesn't have a very valid case. With both the Titans and Falcons in the playoffs, the battle for offensive rookie of the year award could be settled on in one of the world's biggest stages: The Super Bowl. I'm sure Ryan and Johnson wouldn't have it any other way.

Fbkid's Week 17 Predictions

Last week was an ok week as I went 9-7 on my picks. As the regular season comes to a close, the games get tougher to predict as teams like the Titans and Giants who have already clinched the number one seed and homefield advantage, have nothing to play for. Some teams though are still going to be giving it their all this week though as divisions like the AFC East and NFC South haven't been clinched yet. Here are my week 17 picks.

Game of the weak: Chiefs vs Bengals: Both of these teams have been playing better over the last few weeks but come April, both could end up having top 5 picks.

Game of the week: Dolphins vs Jets: Only a few weeks ago experts were already talking about the possibilites of a "Subway Superbowl" between the Jets and the Giants. Considering that both teams actually play in New Jersey and the Jets inability to beat bad teams on the road, it doesn't look like it's going to happen. The Dolphins are now the toast of the league going from a 1-15 record a year ago to contending for a division title. This game should have lots of drama (The Brett Favre last game card)and should come down to the wire. If the Jets lose, we get to see how much the New York media and fans really "love" Favre.

Last week: 9-7
Season: 144-96-1

Rams 14 Falcons 27

Fbkid's Week 16 Predictions

Last week wasn't that great as I only went 8-8 on my picks. This is going to be a great week of football though as home field advantage for both the AFC and NFC will be determined by the outcome of two games. The Steelers Titans game should be won in the trenches and will be a battle of field position and the Panthers Giants game will be determined by which team can stop the run. Here are my week 16 picks.

Game of the weak: Bengals vs Browns: The starting quarterbacks for this game are Ryan Fitzpatrick and Ken Dorsey. Enough said.

Game of the week: Three way tie between Ravens vs Cowboys, Steelers vs Titans and Panthers vs Giants: All three of these games should go down to the wire and all have major playoff implications. This should make for one of the best weekends of regular season football in a long time.

Last Week: 8-8
Season: 135-89-1

Ravens 14 Cowboys 21
Bengals 24 Browns 17
Saints 31 Lions 20

Fbkid's Jaguars vs Colts Prediction

Usually I make all my picks at once but due to a busy schedule I'm just making my pick for the game tonight. My full picks will be posted tommorow afternoon.

The Colts have something to play for tonight and even though it will be an emotional game for the Jaguars, I think the Colts are too focused and pull it out.

Colts 28 Jaguars 14

Fbkid's Week 15 Predictions

Last week was a very good one for my picks as I went 13-3. The playoff picture is finally shaping up. Team's like the Titans, Giants and Cardinals have already clinched their divisions and the Titans even clinched a first round bye. The most interesting thing to watch will be how the AFC East and NFC South end up. Both of those divisions are extremely competitive and at most three teams can get in. Here are my week 15 predictions.

Game of the weak: Seahawks vs Rams: Heading into the year the Seahawks were one of the elite teams in the NFC and the Rams were going to push for a playoff spot. Now they are playing to avoid a top 5 pick.

Game of the week: Steelers vs Ravens: If you like "Smashmouth" football at it's best, then this game is for you. The winner controls their own destiny in the AFC North and I still don't understand why this game isn't on Sunday Night Football. The fans get to see the best game of the day and John Madden gets to gush about how great Hines Ward is. It's a win-win for everyone.

Last week: 13-3
Season: 127-81-1

Saints 20 Bears 24
Bucs 21 Falcons 26

Fbkid's Week 14 Predictions

Last week was another good one as I went 11-5 on my picks. As the playoff picture is starting to shape up, so are the biggest disappointments this year. Both the Jaguars and Chargers came into the year as teams that should contend for the Super Bowl. The Jaguars are now in position to finish in last place in the AFC South and the Chargers could fall into 3rd place if they lose to the Raiders tonight. Here are my week 14 picks.

Game of the weak: Raiders vs Chargers: I'm sure the NFL had different things in mind when scheduling this game but the realization now is that even though it's a rivalry game, it's two teams with below .500 records.

Game of the week: Bucs vs Panthers: This game will be very physical and should come down to the wire. The winner also controls their own destiny in the most underrated division in football, the NFC South.

Last week: 11-5
Season: 114-78-1

Raiders 14 Chargers 24
Jaguars 17 Bears 27
Vikings 31 Lions 14
Bengals 10 Colts 27

Fbkid's Week 13 Predictions

Last week I went 10-6 which continues my streak of decent weeks. It is very ironic how teams like the Patriots and Colts who were counted out at the beginning of the year are now back in the playoff picture. The Colts are now 7-4 and have a very easy schedule the rest of the way and even without Tom Brady the Patriots are also 7-4 and Matt Cassell has been playing like an All Pro the last couple of weeks. Here are my week 13 picks.

Game of the weak: Chiefs vs Raiders: This could be an exciting game to watch as lots of points could be scored. But at this point of the year, not much is at stake.

Game of the week: Giants vs Redskins: When these two teams played in week one, the Redskins looked very sloppy. Now, in the thick of the playoff race they can prove that they belong against the defending Super Bowl champs.

Last week: 10-6
Season: 103-73-1

Titans 31 Lions 20
Seahawks 14 Cowboys 35
Cardinals 27 Eagles 20
49ers 16 Bills 24
Ravens 23 Bengals 13

Fbkid's Week 12 Predictions

Last week was a very good one on my predictions as I went 11-4-1 and picked the exact score of the Titans Jaguars game. The playoff picture is now starting to shape up as teams are showing what they are really made of. At the beginning of the year everyone(myself included) was praising the Bills fast start to the season. But now they are 5-5 and in the AFC East are starting to slip away from contention. Here are my week 12 predictions.

Game of the weak: Bears vs Rams: Both teams are really struggling right now and if the Rams play like they did last week, it could get ugly.

Game of the week: Jets vs Titans: After their win on the road against the Patriots , the Jets are now considered one of the favorites in the AFC. But if they beat an undefeated Titans team on the road, let the Brett Favre media frenzy begin!

Last Week: 11-4-1
Season: 93-67-1

Bengals 14 Steelers 20
Eagles 17 Ravens 21
Texans 20 Browns 26
Bucs 30 Lions 17

Fbkid's Week 11 Predictions

Last week I got back on track as I went 10-4 on my picks last week. It was a turning point for a few teams as they are finally starting to look up to the preseason expectations they had. Both the Colts and Vikings are starting to heat up and are suddenly right back in the playoff picture. Another team who had high preseason expectations the Jaguars, are now at the stage where their season is on the line every week as they are 4-5 and the schedule doesn't get any easier. Here are my week 11 picks.

Game of the weak: Rams vs 49ers: Do you know how bad the NFC West is? The winner of this game will be in 2nd place in the division with a 3-7 record.

Game of the week: Ravens vs Giants: Going into the season fans would have noticed this as a rematch of Super Bowl 35 but who would have expected this to be a potential Super Bowl preview? We now get to see how Joe Flacco performs against a big time defense.

Last week: 10-4
Season: 82-62

Jets 17 Patriots 23
Broncos 24 Falcons 28
Lions 13 Panthers 31
Eagles 28 Bengals 14

Fbkid's Week 10 Fantasy Studs

Last week was a very interesting one for fantasy football as many of last weeks top players came out of nowhere. Not many people would have thought that Ray Rice, Cedric Benson and Jamaal Charles would have gone over 100 yards last week or that Koren Robinson would have had over 100 yards receiving. Here are my week 10 fantasy studs.

QB: Chad Pennington vs Seahawks: Pennington has played very well this season and he now goes up against the 31st ranked pass defense in the Seahawks. Don't be surprised if Pennington has one of the best fantasy weeks out of any quarterback. Expect around 230 yards and 2 touchdowns.

RB: Tim Hightower vs 49ers: What a difference a week makes. Last week at this time Hightower was a touchdown vulture taking away from Edgerrin James owners. Now he is one of the hottest commodities in fantasy football after his 100 yard 1 touchdown performance last week. Hightower could be in for another big week against a struggling 49ers defense and should be active in all leagues this week. Expect around 120 total yards and 2 touchdowns.

WR: Matt Jones vs Lions: Who would have thought at this time last year that Jones would be the Jaguars number one receiver? He should be in for a big game this week though as it's a must win for the Jaguars and the Lions are 29th against the pass. Expect around 85 yards and a touchdown.

TE: Donald Lee vs Vikings: Lee was one of the most productive tight ends in all of fantasy football last season but this season he hasn't been as productive. Lee should get back on track against a struggling Vikings pass defense this week though. Expect around 50 yards and a touchdown.

K: Neil Rackers vs 49ers: With the Cardinals explosive offense, Rackers should be in for a very big week on the national stage. Expect around 2 field goals and 4 extra points.

Def: Panthers vs Raiders: The Panthers defense is still available in many fantasy leagues and the way the Raiders offense is playing, it would be smart to be play any defens opposing them. Expect around 3 sacks and 2 interceptions.

Star to sit: Plaxico Burress vs Eagles: Burress has put up some great fantasy numbers this year but could be in for a rough week against a tough Eagles defense that is very good against the pass. He should still be started in all leagues, but don't expect great numbers.

Fbkid's Week 10 Predictions

Last week was a very rough one for my picks as I went only 6-8. Many interesting story lines have unfolded so far this season. Between the Titans quest for perfection, the Lions quest for another kind of perfection, success of rookie quarterbacks and the weekly soup opera that has become the Raiders, it's hard to not get caught up in one up to this point. Here are my week 10 picks.

Game of the weak: 49ers vs Cardinals: The Cardinals now have the chance to show everyone that they are for real on a national stage. The only problem is that it's on Monday night and the 49ers look terrible. Don's be surprised if Tony Kornheiser starts talking about how Matt Leinart should be in around the 2nd quarter.

Game of the week: Giants vs Eagles: Both of these teams are among the elite in the NFC and this game has a big impact on the NFC East. Don't be surprised if this is a conference championship game preview.

Last week: 6-8
Season: 72-58

Broncos 20 Browns 24

Fbkid's Week 9 Predictions

Last week was a decent one as I went 8-6 on my picks. At the half way point, teams are really starting to show how they really are. Many people thought that the Titans were undefeated due to the easy schedule they had played. But that all changed once they beat the Colts at home on Monday Nght. Here are my week 9 picks.

Game of the weak: Jaguars vs Bengals: The Jaguars really need to win this game badly and the Bengals offense has had a hard time moving the ball with Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback.

Game of the week: Steelers vs Redskins: Both of these teams are considered among the best teams in the league. But the winner will be looked at as a possible Super Bowl contender the rest of the season.

Last Week: 8-6
Season: 66-50

Jets 17 Bills 23
Lions 16 Bears 27
Jaguars 24 Bengals 13
Ravens 17 Browns 21
Bucs 27 Chiefs 10
Texans 24 Vikings 21

Fbkid's Monday Morning Quarterback

Usually I don't have the chance to do an article about the happenings in all of Sunday's games so here is a special editon of my thoughts on what happened this week in the NFL.

When Shaun Rogers wants to play, he is a monster. It is rare that a defensive tackle stands out and has that big an impact on the entire game. Rogers had 9 tackles along with a sack, a blocked field goal and he also recovered the blocked field goal. He also helped the Browns hold Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew to 53 yards on 20 carries. Overall the Browns defense is a very underrated unit and players like Rogers, D'Qwell Jackson, Sean Jones and Eric Wright could be getting free trips to Hawaii in the next few years. Derek Anderson also made some big time throws including a 53 yard pass to Syndric Steptoe between two defenders.

What a difference a year makes for Matt Jones. A year ago Jaguars fans are calling for his head and wanting him out of town. Now they are praying they throw the ball to him when the game comes down to the wire. Even though he could miss 3 games for his incident this offseason, Jones has been one of the most improved players in the league this season. Fans are also wondering where Jerry Porter is. The team signed Porter to a 6 year deal worth $30 million. So far this season he only has 1 catch for 6 yards in 4 games. With every passing game, fans think he will breakout, here is the slogan for his stay in Jacksonville. "The Jerry Porter Era: Maybe Next Week" Porter has the potential to make a huge impact for the Jaguars but so far he has made the teams signing of Hugh Douglas 5 years ago look like a bargin.

While many of the AFC's powers struggle this year, don't be surprised if the Texans emerge as a potential wild card. They are getting hot at the right time and due to how tough the AFC South was last year they are playing a last place schedule. If Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub continue to play this well, the offense is going to be hard to stop.

While most people look for players out of big conferences such as the SEC and Pac-10 to become stars at the next level, Conference USA is very quietly having a big impact this year on the league. Rookies such as Chris Johnson(East Carolina), Matt Forte(Tulane) and Donnie Avery(Houston) have become big play threats and key weapons for there team. That's not all though as David Garrard(East Carolina), Brandon Marshall(UCF) and Asante Samuel(UCF)have also played well this year.

With many of the league's receivers lashing at their coaches and starting trouble in the media, it's time that some of the league's most underrated receivers get their due. Roddy White has very quitely been one of the most productive receivers in the league this year as he is 3rd in the league with 679 yards. White also has 43 receptions along with 5 touchdowns and that's with a rookie quarterback throwing him the ball. White and Matt Ryan could be one of the league's elite tandems in the next few years. Another receiver is Anquan Boldin. While most people got caught up in the Chad Johnson circus this offseason, Boldin wanted a bigger contract as well. But unlike Johnson, Boldin didn't legally change his last name and is putting his money where his mouth is. In 5 games, Boldin has 36 catches 429 yards and is one of the league leaders with 7 touchdowns. With those kind of numbers, it's about time for Boldin to get payed.

The Steelers offensive line is really going to have to improve. Ben Roethisberger got sacked 5 times against the Giants and was hit even more. While many people praised the Steelers draft in April, they didn't need to take glorified positions such as running back and wide receiver in the first two rounds. Instead, they should have added offensive line depth as right now Rashard Mendenhall is out for the season and Limas Sweed has only played one game and has 3 catches for 28 yards.

The Redskins need to learn how to put teams away. They outgained the Lions 439 to 274 in total yards but that didn't show up in the scoreboard only winning 25-17. Yes, a win is a win but the Lions shouldn't have been in that game in the 4th quarter. Especially with the way Jason Campbell was throwing the ball.

The Jets aren't as good as people think. When you are playing the Chiefs at home and you think that you a contender that is a game you need to win in a big way. The game can't be decided in the last minute like it was. They were outplayed for the majority of the game. If Tyler Thigpen plays like he did on Sunday though, the Chiefs are going to be in a lot of games as they have lots of young talent.

Mike Singletary made the right move sending Vernon Davis to the locker room. This was made into a really big deal by many in the national media. But it was a very good move by Singletary. He is trying to show them how to play the game the way he does and he is an admitted "old school" guy so don't be surprised if this happens a game. Singletary also tried to show a message to his players that what Davis did isn't acceptable and won't be tolerated for the rest of the season. If Singletary had his way, he would probably give the ball to Frank Gore 25 times a game and have Patrick Willis and the defense do the rest. With J.T. O'Sullivan at quarterback, that is a very good strategy for the team to win games but with Mike Martz calling the plays, it is very unlikely.

Fbkid's Week 8 Fantasy Studs

Last week was a very good one for my fantasy studs as Matt Schaub, Mewelde Moore and Bernard Berrian all had big games. That keeps the streak of good weeks alive and hopefully it will continue this week. Here are my week 8 fantasy studs.

QB: Trent Edwards vs Dolphins: Edwards has been one of the league's biggest surprises this year and should have another big game against a poor Dolphins pass defense. Expect around 240 yards and 2 touchdowns.

RB: Thomas Jones vs Chiefs: Jones has already tripled his touchdown total from a year ago and should continue to pile on the numbers against a Chiefs rush defense that allowed 300 yards rushing last week to the Titans. Expect around 140 total yards and 2 touchdowns.

WR: Braylon Edwards vs Jaguars: Aside from one game, Edwards hasn't really done much this season. That can all change against the Jaguars though who have had a very hard time covering the pass. Expect around 90 yards and a touchdown.

TE: Owen Daniels vs Bengals: Daniels has very quietly been one of the best fantasy tight ends this year. He could have another big day against a Bengals defense that has struggled this year. Expect around 60 yards and a touchdown.

K: Josh Scobee vs Browns: The Jaguars offense has struggled getting in the end zone this year and the Browns have a very underrated defense. With that being said, Scobee should get plenty of field goal opportunities. Expect around 3 field goals and 2 extra points.

DEF: 49ers vs Seahawks: When you are playing a team starting Seneca Wallace at quarterback, you know you are in for a big game on defense. Expect around 3 sacks and 2 interceptions.

Star to sit: Michael Turner vs Eagles: Turner has been excellent so far this season but he could be in for a rough game against the Eagles. The Eagles will be blitzing Matt Ryan like crazy and will probably put 8 in the box forcing Ryan to beat them. Turner could have a decent day, but don't expect his usual numbers.

Fbkid's Week 8 Predictions

Last week I went 9-5 which is another decent week for the way things have been so far. So far the season has been very unpredictable as teams are coming out of nowhere each week. A few weeks ago the Rams were arguably the worst team in the league. Now after they fired Scott Linehan, they have beaten the Redskins and the Cowboys. Both who were considered elite teams. Here are my week 8 picks.

Game of the weak: Seahawks vs 49ers: The starting quarterbacks in this game are going to be J.T. O'Sullivan and Seneca Wallace. Enough said.

Game of the week: Giants vs Steelers: Both of these teams are among the best in the league and with the way things are going this could be a preview of the Super Bowl.

Last week: 9-5
Season: 58-44

Raiders 10 Ravens 17
Cardinals 21 Panthers 26
Bucs 21 Cowboys 16
Redskins 27 Lions 17
Bills 21 Dolphins 14
Rams 17 Patriots 23
Chargers 23 Saints 17
Chiefs 10 Jets 35
Falcons 14 Eagles 24
Bengals 16 Texans 31

Fbkid's Week 7 Fantasy Studs

Last week was a decent one for my fantasy studs as Steve Breaston had a big game and Joseph Addai didn't do much against the Ravens defense before he got injured. The last few weeks have been good for me though and hopefully it will continue this week. Here are my week 7 fantasy studs.

QB: Matt Schaub vs Lions: Schaub has done very well his last couple games and that shouldn't change against the Lions defense. Schaub looks like he is starting to connect with Andre Johnson again which will really help his value considering Johnson is one of the best receivers in the league. Schaub won't be the only one benefiting from the matchup as Steve Slaton and Owen Daniels are also good starts this week. Expect around 270 yards and 3 touchdowns.

RB: Mewelde Moore vs Bengals: With Willie Parker out, Moore will be getting the majority of carries this week against a struggling Bengals defense. Moore is available in most leagues and could do very well in points per reception leagues. Expect around 110 total yards and a touchdown.

WR: Bernard Berrian vs Bears: Surprisingly, Berrian isn't owned in some leagues but has been one of the best fantasy receivers over the last couple of weeks. Look for Berrian to have another big game against his former team. Expect around 90 yards and a touchdown.

TE: Dustin Keller vs Raiders: Keller has only caught 6 passes this year but 2 of them have been for touchdowns. He may not put up big numbers but he could have a solid week as the Jets will pass the ball early and often against the Raiders. Expect around 30 yards and a touchdown.

K: Matt Bryant vs Seahawks: Bryant has been very consistent so far this year and with the way the Seahawks defense is playing, he could have a very good fantasy game. Expect around 3 field goals and 3 extra points.

Def: Dolphins vs Ravens: The Dolphins defense has played OK this year but if the Ravens offense plays anything like last week, the Dolphins could be in for a big day. Expect around 3 sacks and 2 interceptions.

Star to sit: Julius Jones vs Buccaneers: Jones has been pretty productive this year but could struggle against a Bucs defense that ranks 9th in the league against the run. If you have other options this week, it might be worth considering starting them over Jones.

Fbkid's Week 7 Predictions

Last week I went 8-6 on my picks which is solid for the way things have been going. Many games went down to the final seconds last week and it just continues to show how competitive the league is right now. Who would have thought that the Falcons who picked in the top 3 picks of this year's draft would be tied for first in the NFC south and in the middle of the playoff hunt. Here are my week 7 picks.

Game of the weak: Ravens vs Dolphins: If you are a fan of high scoring games, this one isn't for you.

Game of the week: Chargers vs Bills: The Chargers are on the rise and if the Bills win they will prove themselves as a contender in the AFC.

Last week: 8-6
Season: 49-39

Chargers 20 Bills 24
Saints 17 Panthers 21
Vikings 14 Bears 17
Steelers 31 Bengals 16
Titans 24 Chiefs 10

49ers 14 Giants 31
Cowboys 20 Rams 14
Lions 13 Texans 24
Colts 28 Packers 24

Fbkid's Week 6 Fantasy Studs

Last week many of my fantasy studs had big games like Steve Slaton, Lee Evans, Matt Prater and the Panthers defense. Here are my week 6 fantasy studs and hopefully they put up the same kind of numbers as last weeks.

QB: Gus Frerotte vs Lions: Frerotte isn't owned in many leagues but he could have a very big game against a poor Lions secondary. Frerotte is also building a very good chemisty with Bernard Berrian so don't be surprised if he has a big day. Expect around 240 yards and 2 touchdowns.

RB: Le'Ron McClain vs Colts: So far this year the Colts have really struggled with the run and with a rookie quarterback, the Ravens will rely on it Sunday. Both McClain and Willis McGahee are very good options but McClain seems to be getting the goalline touches. Expect around 85 yards and a touchdown.

WR: Steve Breaston vs Cowboys: Since Anquan Boldin got hurt,Breaston has emerged as a solid fantasy option. He should have another good game against a struggling Cowboys pass defense. Expect around 75 yards and a touchdown.

TE: Greg Olsen vs Falcons: Olsen's stats have improved over the course of each game and this one should be no different as the Falcons have struggled with tight ends. Olsen should be available in many leagues and could be a very good option this week. Expect around 65 yards and a touchdown.

K: Shaun Suisham vs Rams: The Redskins should put up plenty of points against the Rams and nobody benefits more then Suisham. Suisham may not get many field goal opportunities, but he will certainly get extra points. Expect around 5 extra points and a field goal.

Def: Jets vs Bengals: This game had the making to be a shootout but with Ryan Fitzpatrick now starting for the Bengals, that changes things. The Jets are now a very good defensive option and are available in many leagues. Expect around 3 sacks and 2 interceptions.

Star to sit: Joseph Addai vs Ravens: Unless you have lots of other options, you probably won't sit Addai who was one of the first running backs of the board on draft day. If you start him though, don't expect big numbers as the Ravens defense is back and they are one of the best in the league against the run.

Fbkid's Week 6 Predictions

Last week was very rough as I went only 6-8 on my picks. That shows that the league is more balanced then it has been for a while. Many teams are playing at a high level and more then half the teams in the league have a record of .500 or better. Who would have thought that through 5 weeks the Falcons would be 3-2 and have a better record then both the Eagles and Vikings? Here are my week 6 picks.

Game of the weak: Giants vs Browns: At the beginning of the season, this looked like a great matchup. Now the scoreboard will probably be very one sided.

Game of the week: Cowboys vs Cardinals: Every game that the Cardinals play turns into a shootout and both of these teams have explosive offenses. Don't be surprised if there is an upset brewing in the desert.

Last week: 6-8
Season: 41-33

Bears 21 Falcons 14
Dolphins 26 Texans 20
Ravens 13 Colts 21
Lions 14 Vikings 35
Raiders 17 Saints 21
Bengals 17 Jets 35
Panthers 20 Bucs 13
Rams 14 Redskins 42
Jaguars 27 Broncos 21
Cowboys 35 Cardinals 31
Eagles 21 49ers 26
Packers 23 Seahawks 17
Patriots 16 Chargers 20
Giants 38 Browns 13

Fbkid's Week 5 Fantasy Studs

Last week wasn't a great one for my fantasy studs as only Trent Edwards and Jonathan Stewart had decent days. I was way off on my prediction of the Jaguars defense as the Texans were throwing all over them and made Matt Schaub look like a hall of fame quarterback. Here are my week 5 fantasy studs and hopefully my predictions only get better from here.

QB: Brian Griese vs Broncos: Griese hasn't been that efficient this year as he has thrown 4 touchdowns to go along with 6 interceptions. On the bright side, Griese is putting up big time yards and in his 3 starts is averaging over 40 attempts a game. Now he plays the Denver defense who have had a hard time stopping any passing game. Griese could end up having a very efficient week. Expect around 240 yards and 2 touchdowns.

RB: Steve Slaton vs Colts: The Texans look like they have finally found a big play back in Slaton as he has showed lots of promise in his first two starts. Now he goes up against a banged up Colts defense that is coming off a game against the Jaguars where they allowed over 200 rushing yards. Slaton is also a very good receiver out of the backfield and showed why catching 8 passes last week. Slaton could have a very big week and with his upcoming schedule should be in your lineup for the next few weeks. Expect around 140 total yards and a touchdown.

WR: Lee Evans vs Cardinals: So far this season the Cardinals have lived and died by the big play and all Evans has done so far in his career is make big plays. Evans is one of the biggest deep threats in the game and now he goes up against a Cardinals defense that allowed 6 passing touchdowns last week. Expect around 110 yards and a touchdown.

TE: Anthony Fasano vs Chargers: Even though he has been one of the best tight ends in all of fantasy football, Fasano still isn't owned in a lot of leagues. After this week though, that shouldn't be the case. The Chargers are dead last in the league in pass defense and Fasano is one of Chad Pennington's favorite targets. Expect around 65 yards and a touchdown.

K: Matt Prater vs Buccaneers: Prater has been a surprise for the Broncos this year as he has become a very reliable kicker in his second year. He has a very strong leg and with the Broncos offense he should get plenty off opportunities to make fantasy owners happy. Expect around 3 extra points and 2 field goals.

Def: Carolina vs Chiefs: The Panthers defense is starting to look like a top unit once again and is a great start against a struggling Chiefs offense. If the Panthers contain Larry Johnson, they could have a huge day. Expect around 3 sacks and 2 interceptions.

Star to sit: Clinton Portis vs Eagles: Portis has been very efficient so far this year but could struggle against a very tough Eagles defense. The Eagles are only allowing 53 rushing yards a game and if you have better options, it might be smart to sit Portis this week.

Fbkid's Week 5 Predictions

Last week was a rough one as I went 6-7 on my picks. Many teams last week showed flaws that could potentially hurt them later on in the season. The Broncos have an explosive passing attack but if they want to make the playoffs, the defense needs to improve. They struggled against some of the league's top offenses such as the Saints and Chargers but when you allow 33 points to the Chiefs you know something is wrong. Here are my week 5 picks.

Game of the weak: Falcons vs Packers: If Aaron Rodgers isn't playing, this game should be very close but with two rookie quarterbacks starting, it could get ugly.

Game of the week: Redskins vs Eagles: The Redskins are now being taken seriously in the NFC after beating the Cowboys at home. But after losing in Chicago last week, the Eagles really need this win against a division rival.

Last week: 6-7
Season: 35-25

Titans 16 Ravens 10
Chiefs 13 Panthers 24
Bears 21 Lions 17
Falcons 14 Packers 17
Colts 20 Texans 24
Chargers 27 Dolphins 16
Seahawks 14 Giants 28
Redskins 21 Eagles 27
Buccaneers 21 Broncos 26
Bills 20 Cardinals 17
Bengals 16 Cowboys 35
Patriots 16 49ers 26
Steelers 17 Jaguars 23
Vikings 16 Saints 27
